Reports: State to play Vandy in the Music City Bowl

Pretty much how we drew it up in our previous guidance.

With the reports that the ACC’s position in the Russell Athletic Bowl will be filled by Virginia Tech (to play Rutgers) it appears clear that NC State will play Vanderbilt in the Music City Bowl in Nashville, TN on the afternoon of December 31st.

You can click here for real time updates on all of the bowls as they are become clear.

Vandy will probably smack us good, but hopefully it’ll be the last “got the crap beat out of you” game for a long time to come.

    Better days are coming.

For the team, and being Glennon’s last game. I hope we go out on a winning note. We still won’t have TOB on the sidelines next year.

If TOB were coaching this game, then I would disagree as he usually brigs his A game to the bowl. With it being Bible though, I fear that you may be right. Of course, he may open the playbook up, as TOB may have been keeping it closed. We will see though.

I’m looking forward to hitting the honky tonks, the football game is just gravy.

I’m very curious to see how our players respond and execute in the bowl game. When’s the last time a State football team played a bowl game right after a coaching change? Didn’t happen in ’79. Sure didn’t happen in ’82 and ’85. Don’t remember if we went to a bowl between Sheridan and O’Cain, but since O’C was Sheridan’s assistant, that would have been a different circumstance anyway. I’m hopeful they’ll play with pride, and either want to make a good last showing for our outgoing staff, or want to make a good first impression on our new coach, or both. I’ll be very disappointed if we “pull a Virginia game”. Furthermore, although I can’t make it to the game, I sure hope our University is well-represented in Nashville. Let’s show our new coach he definitely made the right decision to move to Raleigh!

Have heard we’ll play at noon in Nashville on December 31. Men’s b-ball has a home game at 1pm vs UNCG. Any chance the time of the b-ball game will be changed?

The nice thing about the Orange Bowl is how our name will be repeated over and over and over. “NC State beat Florida State” and “Coach that led NIU to its first BCS game is the new head coach at NC State.” Gonna love it.

“Since last Oct. 2, Northern Illinois is 21-1, the best record in the country. For comparison’s sake, that’s two more wins than Alabama and four more than Notre Dame over that stretch. If it wasn’t for a one-point loss against Iowa on Sept. 1, the Huskies might be coming to Miami [the BCS championship] with an undefeated record.”

I think Bible and crew will be very aggressive in the bowl game. Why? It is basically their next job interview and the last time to show what they have prior to finding another job.
