State offers JUCO Quarterback
It looks like NC State has offered a scholarship to junior college quarterback, Jake Waters. You can view his Twitter by clicking here.
Waters is 6’2, 220 pounds and is expected to graduate from Iowa Western this December. It appears Waters only other current offer is from Akron.
The Waters offer could be integral for long-term roster stability after State lost both Tyler Brosius and Brian Taylor from the depth chart before the start of the 2012 season. Although Mike Glennon did not miss a single snap of the 2011 season to injury, Coach O’Brien has burned the redshirt of promising freshman quarter, Manny Stocker this season. Stocker has taken approximately 17 snaps and has attempted one pass through the first four games of the season.
With Colorado State transfer Pete Thomas waiting in the wings to potentially start for the Wolfpack next season, it would be very nice to have an adequate and mature back-up available who would provide Stocker the opportunity to red-shirt and therefore create more advantageous scholarship spacing at the quarterback position in the future.

Just asking because I don’t know off hand – does a QB ever redshirt after their freshman year, who is talented enough to ever significantly contribute? It’s something I’ve done playing video games, but I can’t recall any examples in the real world. I don’t religiously keep up with other team’s depth charts so I honestly don’t know.
I recall reading that Tom O’Brien actually redshirted a senior QB once in his time at BC. Wish we were offering high-end JUCO O-linemen and linebackers instead of more quarterbacks.
Waters also has an offer from k-state. And judging by his “tweets” he’s pretty excited about k-state. You know your coach is boring when kids are more excited to play for someone that was alive before football was invented.

Beamer at VT was going to redshirt Tyrod Taylor a few years ago his sophomore year. He played a good bit his true freshman year, but Sean Glennon was expected to start. Then Glennon stunk it up in the first couple of games, so Beamer decided not to redshirt Taylor.

Looks like K State and FL Atlantic offered too. He’s probably KState bound.
They play solid football in that JUCO conference. Solid, but not spectacular. But from his stats, and the team’s success (#1 JUCO), he’s appears to be a solid player.
Terry Harvey is our Wolfpack example. He was forced to play as a true Frosh when Terry Jordan then Geoff Bender got hurt. He was redshirted his Sophomore year, then came back and had a stellar career.
Just curious but do people really care about f-ball recruiting anymore? We could land the best QB in the land and it wouldn’t matter.
This offer is all about replacing Brosius. Kid looks very good and has nice size, but if the K-State offer is true, I’m not getting my hopes up. He’s from Iowa, and it’s only 3 hours from his current school to the Little Apple. Plus, as much as I hate to say this, K-State is a much better football program than ours right now. Their history with developing JUCO players will help too. Mining the JUCO ranks is a big reason why Bill Snyder was able to turn one of the worst FBS programs into a legitimate conference title contender.
Packalum44, no need to be so cynical. Of course we care about recruiting and your presence on this thread proves that you do as well. I believe that a lot of our fans are very disappointed with how our season has gone so far, but that is no excuse for walking into the party and screaming “hey look at me” and then spreading more negativity. I’m not trying to flame you, but try to act like you care about the team than spreading your negative point of view.
