Just asking T has NCAA taken so long to determine status of NC ST’s Purvis? This is August – give me a break – not fair to kid or school

Count on the NCAA to stick it to us while letting UNC off easy.

Since when is the NCAA about fair to kid or school? There is nothing inconsistent about this behavior from the NCAA.
Just curious: has anybody heard specifics on this? Are we SURE that it’s an NCAA delay and not something where somebody on the staff dropped the ball? Certainly hope not, but the impending elections have me in a “fact-questioning” mood…
We (NC State) have known for some time both the academic background of Purvis and the date for our departure for Spain. Unless the NCAA sprung something weird on us, this falls squarely in the lap of the basketball staff. You should always assume that things like this aren’t going to go smoothly and allow enough time to get them taken care of. My apologies to the staff in advance if the NCAA has taken an unusual or different approach to Purvis’ eligibility than they have with other similar athletes.
It’s the NCAA. It’s not a procedural issue, and not something that was forgotten or neglected by Purvis or NC State. The NCAA just decided now to review the school because this is the first graduating class. Nothing has changed since Purvis first started being recruited.
This is all about the NCAA not serving it’s constituents, and not giving a d@mn. They’re act like a pseudo gov’t entity.
Though, admittedly, I don’t know what the below quote from the gopack.com article means. The issue is in regards to the school, not an issue with Purvis specifically.
“Per NCAA rules, incoming freshmen student-athletes must complete this process in order to participate in a summer foreign tour prior to full-time matriculation.”

I disagree. The NC State basketball staff doesn’t get to set the agenda or schedule of the NCAA. Purvis went through the clearinghouse and was determined to be eligible. The ACC and NC State say he’s eligible by their standards. What, exactly, was the basketball staff to do?
Tyler had/has a lot of potential. I think this is a big loss for us personally.

The rumor I’m hearing is that URCA submitted their paperwork like they were supposed to, and that the NCAA is the party that dropped the ball on this.
It’s a real shame for a couple of reasons… it hurts our chances of winning in Spain, and it prevents Rodney from taking a great international trip. He’s missing out on a great life experience. And for what… (assuming the rumor is true) simply because the NCAA dragged their feet on this.
Sometimes I can’t help but wonder if it’s intentional.
So how is it that Lewis and Warren can make the trip? This is deeper than just the NCAA or NC State or the basketball staff dragging their feet or dropping the ball or screwing up.
And why isn’t Swoffy on THIS? He could take the time off to go to Indianapolis for the holes.
So is it common practice for the NCAA to review schools that have just graduated their first class? If not, I will invoke the apology clause in my original post.
So how is it that Lewis and Warren can make the trip?
They don’t go to the same school. Are their schools also graduating their first senior classes? That would be a crazy coincidence!
Purvis isn’t being investigated. The NCAA is just clearing his school. This applies to ALL senior athletes graduating from Upper Room Christian Academy.
Not that the NCAA isn’t culpable in this delay. The rumor I heard is that URCA submitted their paperwork on schedule and the NCAA dragged their feet on it.
Having dealt with the NCAA before, there are a couple of things to remember. First, the NCAA does not review anything until they have an athlete asking to be cleared through the Clearinghouse. So until Purvis graduates and submits his paperwork, nothing gets considered. So if URCA submitted it early, the NCAA would not look at it until Purvis’ paperwork arrived. And as anyone who deals with large companies can tell you, information that arrives early easily falls through the cracks.
Sucks, but its done and stupid and the best part is the NCAA has no intention of ever auditing itself and making itself work as it should. There are 500 hand-me-down consignment shops nationwide that blow the NCAAs doors off on the management side. What those places don’t have are University President, AD’s and TV executives laying it all out like a Vanderbilt coed.
The NCAA could have dragged its feet. Or the high school could have submitted inconsistent info on the final transcript, which will always hold things up. Given that it has never before graduated a class, that is certainly possible. The NCAA is never easy to deal with but they do set it out there how the process works. A school that fails to follow the process will hold things up no matter who the athlete is.
Sucks for Purvis to miss out on a trip to Spain. I hate it for the kid.
Another slap or spit in the face of a great basketball program, that is N.C. State. I will leave myself an out by saying anyone can make a mistake, it could turn out there is a legitimate problem, but I doubt it.
Just as we cringed when the Butch Davis scandal started(knowing there would be no justice), I cringe now, thinking what the outcome of this so-called review of Purvis’ status may be.

Truth
Smells fishy to me since this process should have started Rodney’s junior year.
What gets me most is not the basketball team missing Rodney but Rodney missing out on a chance to travel overseas. That’s an irreplaceable experience and fabulous opportunity for a kid his age that he’s being robbed of.
