ACC Football Attendance Announced
ESPN has a blog entry (linked here) reviewing the ANNOUNCED attendance at each respective ACC school.
NC State’s level of fan support continues to support a thesis that our football program should at the very least be the top of the second tier of the ACC if not the bottom of the ‘first tier’. Hopefully next season will provide us the kind of ‘break-through’ we seek.
No. 15 Clemson (547,635)
No. 16 Florida State (544,893)
No. 28 Virginia Tech (397,398)
No. 32 NC State (394,008)
No. 33 North Carolina (392,000)
No. 39 Miami (340,576)
No. 41 Georgia Tech (337,622)
No. 43 Virginia (335,582)
No. 51 Maryland (296,484)
No. 65 Wake Forest (223,769)
No. 68 Boston College (214,255)
No. 79 Duke (170,748)
It continues to be an absolute travesty that UNC-CH is allowed to so blatantly lie about their attendance at each game. We all know the truth that is reinforced with each televised game and each Twitter comment from local media who made weekly comments about the number of empty seats in Kenan Stadium each Saturday.
Stay classy and ethical, Tar heels! At least we have another data point of just how awful the understanding of math is in Orange County.
If the media and the ACC office don’t have the scruples and fortitude to call out UNC for years of LYING about something that is RIGHT IN FRONT OF EVERYONE’S EYES…how do you think you would get accurate and ethical reporting on things that go on behind the scenes?
By the way…whatever happened to Butch Davis’ 216 telephone records?

Fuzzy math in Chapel Hill, whatever suits their purpose. Facts, what facts?
If State could ever win the league we’d need more seats.
If my facts are right and both C-F and Kenan are 60,000 seat stadiums (got this from collegegridirons.com). We were at 93.8% capacity and the holes were at 93.3%. Come on, you have got to be kidding me. Where are they getting there numbers from, how do that back that up. State counts bodies through the gate correct? Are the holes counting tickets sold, or just completely pulling the number from their ass? I can’t believe that they would be selling that many tickets and having no-shows. As much as I HATE the tiggers they look to be around 97.4% capacity, granted they had a good year this year except for losing 3 of their last 4. The fans continue to support them. Did I mention I HATE clempson?
Actually, C-F and Kenan are not each 60,000 seat stadiums. C-F is something close to 57,500. I think it’s actually slightly larger, but the last media guide I had listed it at that number. It’s definitely not 60,000 though. Kenan on the other hand used to have a capacity of 60,000. However, the new “Blue Zone aka the Seats that Butch Built” added 2,980 seats, so it should have had a capacity last year of 62,980.
At those numbers, C-F was at 97.8% capacity last season. Kenan was at 88.9% capacity. While I’m not sure how either school reports “announced attendance”, I’d be willing to bet that our announced attendance was much, much closer to a “butts in the seats” number that Chapel Hill’s announced attendance.
Thanks for the update FuquayWolf.
I think the fact they always have nice, perfectly rounded numbers is the proof they just “eye ball it.”
Ten percent overall lack of capacity would basically be several sections empty, which jives w/ lack of sections filling and the bluezones pansy patrons sitting inside (supposedly).
Whatever happened to 216 records?
Those are NUMBERS, & they just ‘project’ those over there. Butch’s records got ‘projected’ into the Hall of Fame; or into Bill Friday’s records storage over at UNC-TV; or in Charlie Justice’s tomb.
(392,000)
This literally made me laugh. What childlike transparency. I’m just surprised they didn’t report (394,009).
I think what they meant to say was “an average of “392,000″ EMPTY seats in Chapel Hole! No way they had that kind of attendance.
They had 392,000. Just like there were 41,728 at the Independence Bowl.
Just beat the hell out of those spoiled arrogant bastards Thursday night!
Amen to that my_adidas!
We know no one goes to kenan, and if your over 6′ its really awful. Undeniable Non Compliance; do you expect anything to be on the up and up over there?
You also have to consider that UNC had 8 home games this year while State only had 7 and we still beat them in total attendance. Doesn’t seem like an appropriate way to rank attendance.
“Stay classy and ethical, Tar heels! At least we have another data point of just how awful the understanding of math is in Orange County”
I’m sorry but they have NEVER been classy or ethical for as long as I can remember and I graduated from NCSU in ’74. They have always been about image (before substance) but the media covered up their lies and deceptions. Now the internet is such a powerful tool, they cannot get away with the types of things that they used to be able to hide. The funny thing is that they have not figured it out yet and they just keep making themselves look bad!
Impressive we are only 3k shy of VA tech’s attendance. They are much more of a f-ball school than us and have a larger and more passionate/obnoxious fanbase. Not that we wouldn’t be there if we had the level of sustained success they have had. Just pleasantly surprised.
Debbie Yow needs to take these numbers and get working on adding more seats and an indoor practice facility.
“You also have to consider that UNC had 8 home games this year while State only had 7 and we still beat them in total attendance. Doesn’t seem like an appropriate way to rank attendance.”
They both had 7 home games. A 3 year per game average was provided in the same article.

This post reminds me of the old joke about how you know economists have a sense of humor.
They use decimals.
This is laughable, like someone was too lazy to provide actual numbers. My guess is all the counters were pulled off to hold up the black curtain in front of the NCAA. That, or they rounded up from 293,000.
You must remember that Carolina attendance numbers are figured in Swahili and that ratio is 1.8976875643287 to 1.
“I’m just surprised they didn’t report (394,009).”
LOL
A couple points.
First off – don’t confuse attendance with the effectiveness of the program. Tennessee, South Carolina and LSU packed them in before they were good – and Tennessee does now even though they’ve been very average the last 2 years.
I would agree that of the ACC schools – after the Top 3 – who are at a different level – we’re clearly the school that enjoys its football the most.
I’m hoping we can get similar results that TOB had in BC – and it definitely looks like we’re heading in that direction. If we do – I think we may have to see another expansion of CF in the near future.
I want our stadium to finally look real big. It looks so much better than it did 11 years ago – but if we’re good for a more years, we won’t have enough seats.
