Scott Wood leads the NCAA in FT percentage
In the latest update from the NCAA Scott Wood now has enough free throws to lead the country in free throw percentage at 100%.

This probably should have gone under the Monday musings but IMO it is such an impressive feat that I wanted to highlight it.
BTW I was waiting all morning to see the updated NCAA stats.
He is also #15 on the 3pt percentage list…
How does Reggie Hamilton from Oakland have 160 attempts. Hack a Hamilton I suppose.
^Does Roger Ayers call a lot of their games?
Lorenzo is also tied for 6th in Assists/Game
We have some smart players. Wood and Brown, to start with, are quite athletic, but they have b-ball smarts, making them a joy to watch. I’m happy with our big guys, but they seem a bit too interested in making it on a highlight reel.
Wood and Brown are all business. Williams, too?
BTW, I noticed a “Singler” on that list who plays for Oregon. Based on the name and the location (and FT shooting ability for that matter), I take it they’re closely related?
The most nerve wracking moment I felt watching the game yesterday was Scott’s record tying free throw. Congrats to him on an amazing accomplishment. I also like the fact that he’s not only taking (and making) the wide open three, but is able to get the shot off on some of those contested shots. That will only build his confidence as I’m sure that he’s got the greenlight to shoot whenever he feels like it.

Yes, E.J. Singler is Kyle’s brother.
Anyone else get the impression that Miami was trying to ice Wood before the record-tying/breaking free throws? Larranaga requested a replay check whether Wood’s shot was a 3 or a 2, when it wasn’t even close. I figured he was just trying to give Wood more time to think about it.
Excited for any little mention we get in the national press. Saw that we are showing up in Lunardi’s bracketology now as the 5th team out of 5 to make it from the ACC.
We are also 20th as a team in free throws @ 75.0% GOPACK!

If only Calvin could improve his FT shooting. He walks up to the FT line looking like he knows he’s going to miss. Not very confident, at all.

Calvin is such a wildcard with the ball in general. It’s fun watching him with the ball when he gets it down low but all State fans cover their eyes if he pushes the ball on the fast break.
Considering that Wood haven’t missed a free throw yet this season, I think that this picture would better describe this post:

I’m just kidding Rick! Wood’s streak is amazing, but I honestly suspect that after this post, we will all jinx him and he will miss his next 56 free throws…
I noticed that Wood is ranked #15 in 3pt% in the country, but 2nd among players in BCS conferences. A guy from Baylor is #8.
Hopefully Scott will have enough free throw attempts by season’s end to qualify for these rankings.
I do not believe in jinxes or luck or any of that non-sense.
If he misses it is because he did not shoot the ball well.
But he didn’t shoot the ball well because he was jinxed. Duh.
Kudos to Scott Wood.
Just out of curiosity, I Googled to find out who holds the NCAA record for consecutive free throws. According to the National Basketball Shooters Association John Wooden (Purdue 1930′s) made 134 consecutive free throws.
And Wooden undoubtedly tossed them in underhanded!
I’m not worried half as much about Scott Wood’s ability to make free throws as I am CJ Leslie’s inability to make, let alone even take, a close-range jump shot.
^I would not be upset if CJL didn’t take another jumper all year. Dunk and lay-up attempts only please.
Maybe a baby hook every now and again.

Guess there’s a reason he got into the HoF as a player, well before his coaching career took off.
He’s a machine on the line, that’s for sure. Just think how many FTs he’d make (and points he’d average) if he could create his own shot. Didn’t Redick average something like 8ppg in FTs alone?
Just some fun with numbers.
With Wood, our FT% is: .750
Without Wood, it would be: .717
A decent chunk, though he doesn’t shoot a ton of FTs, and the rest of the team is good enough that it doesn’t completely plummet. Three pointers, on the other hand:
With Wood, our 3FG% is: .365
Without Wood, it would be: .310
With Wood, we’re the 2nd best 3PT shooting team in the ACC. Without Wood, we’re 11th. He’s hit almost half of the team’s 3s.
