Steven Howard – Hero
I just ran across this thread on our message forums that is just way too good not to have on the front page of the blog.
As one of our community members said, “This is what a champion in the community looks like.”
Steven is an example of the best in people. That he is one of “ours” makes it all the more special. Obviously an outstanding person. Steven thanks for showing what is right with the world and thanks for being part of the Pack family.

Great story – thanks for posting.
Champions in the community… Thanks, Steven !
Anyone that is struggling to understand what it means to have compassion and the utmost respect for your fellow man…this is a MUST READ. Absolutely one of the best stories involving a wolfpack athlete, the way it reads Mr. Howard did not do this for any accolades, but my God does he deserve some recognition. Perfect story for the holiday season…GO PACK.
People do good things because they are good. Steven has proved to be a great example to us all. One good thing done out of sight and expecting no kudos. Even so here is my kudo – good job Steven!
Absolutely, Thank you Steven for casting the kind of light on a program we can all be proud of. Merry Christmas to you.
Beautiful story. And a reminder of why we shouldn’t boo the players for what they do on or don’t do on Saturday.
Great story about a GREAT Wolfpacker-and he just did it without fanfare or a need for recognition. Plus Steven apparently kept reminding his Tar Heel friend about the football wins in a good-natured way-Howard will go far in this life…
I welled up reading this. Steven is a shining light for humanity, and a great example for not only his peers, but all of us. He will indeed go far in life. In fact, he already has gone further in some ways than most people ever will. What a great blessing to have discovered one of his purposes in life and made a difference at such an early age. That he is a Wolfpacker makes me even prouder of him. Given the types of people TOB recruits, I expect there are other stories like this from the team.
How refreshing. A story on college athletics that doesn’t involve tweets, cupcakes, makin’ it rain, or young ball boys.
Well done Mr. Howard.
This is an example of a fine young man who gets it and who will be successful in anything he does. I would love to see pictures of the family with Howard when they came to watch him play at Carter-Finley.
It is such a shame that the UNC-CHeat biased newspaper media will not write a feature story about such an outstanding young man!
I was thinking the same thing, ’73.
Sad that I can learn about Tracy Smith’s parking violations on the evening news and the front page of the N&O, but I have to come here to learn about this.
Pathetic.
Oh, and the obvious shouldn’t always go without saying… Nice job Steven. Ditto the above commentary on you and your character. Thank you. You make us all proud.
Steven Howard is a class act. I love people that know what it means to help others.
Wow, thank you for posting.
It’s kind of nice that this is a quiet story about a remarkable young man. We should all be more like him.
