In response to Everett Withers’ridiculously inappropriate comments yesterday, NC State Head Football Coach Tom O’Brien LET FLY this morning! (Link)
NC State coach Tom O’Brien on UNC’s coaching staff today: “As far as the flagship, here is a guy that was on a staff that ended up in Indianapolis. There are three things that you can’t do in college football — have an agent on your staff, pay your players and have academic fraud. That is the triple pay. I don’t know if they have anything to talk about. If that is what the people want in the flagship University of North Carolina, then so be it.”

This is becoming nasty between UNC Interim Head Coach Everett Withers and NCSU Head Coach Tom O’Brien.
On Wednesday in an interview with 99.9 The Fan ESPN Radio Withers said, “When you have as many schools in this state as you have and the recruiting base gets watered down a little bit, I think the kids in this state need to know ‘the flagship school.” Withers also said, “They need to know it academically. If you look at our graduation rates opposed to our opponent this week’s graduation rates for football, I think you’ll see a difference. If you look at the educational environment here, I think you’ll see a difference.”
Tom O’Brien was quick to fire a rebuttal during his usual weekly Thursday availability with the media. In response to Wither’s “flagship” comment O’Brien said, “As far as the flagship, here was a guy (Withers) who was on a football staff that ends up in Indianapolis.” He went on to say, “You have an agent on staff, you are paying players & you have academic fraud. That’s a triple play.”
O’Brien also had a response to the academic questions that Withers raised on Wednesday by saying, “At our school, number one, all classes have a syllabus. Our guys go to school, they are not given grades, and they graduate.”
Will Brinson had a super ‘FakeTOBQuote’ on his Twitter account this morning –
“It doesn’t really matter whether Carolina wins, they’ll end up vacating it anyway.”

I’m sure everyone involved had a good laugh over the whole thing.
But I think TOB went off in a very un-TOB-like manner, and I think that might get the attention of our players. Let’s hope they play some inspired ball tomorrow.

Hey I have a deep dislike for Carolina sports like anybody else here but this last statement is lame and didn’t need to be said. Keep your bigotry to yourself.
I don’t think TOB has done a good job coaching but I really do like TOB and I love the way he doesn’t tolerate crap from anyone, especially those scum suckers in baby blue. If this team can’t get fired up and ready to play after hearing the crap spewing from Withers and those crap holes then nothing ever will fire them up.
If Woodson apologized then screw him too!
