Miller out of contention (J.P. Giglio)
John Miller said he talked to N.C. State athletic director Debbie Yow about his son’s future but Sean Miller took himself out of contention for the Wolfpack job before Arizona’s surprising 93-77 win over Duke on Thursday night in Anaheim, Calif. in the round of 16 in the NCAA tournament.
“I think he really talked it over and made his decision,” said John Miller, a retired legendary high school coach in western Pennsylvania. “He just doesn’t want to make another move and move his family again.”

Offer Rick Barnes right now.
strike 2
DG has said with 100% certainty that Barnes is staying in Texas. Said there is no way he is wrong.
On to Turgeon and then Greg Marshall/Shaka Smart IMO.
Waiting for the Donovan rumors to fire back up
i don’t doubt the veracity of this. but an honest question: why would he go through his father like this? why not either shout from the rooftops how much he loves his current job OR fake interest and play us/UofA to get a raise?
Anthony Grant?
I don’t know, the one good thing to come out of this though is that DY can now move on to the next candidate. We won’t be held hostage to Arizona’s performance in the tournament.
So is this our first official public rejection? Was hoping these were a thing of the past search.
2006 redux
SFN – I appreciate you trying to keep things positive but the reason State fans assume failure is because that’s what we know and that’s what we do.
I just want someone irregardless of name and in no particular order to be a nightmare for all shades of blue (Duke, Carolina, Kansas, Butler, Kentucky)get us a conference title(s), compete heavily for a national title(s) and STAY IN COMPLIANCE
probably just another “smokescreen”
But…..but….the sources….all the sources!
Does the article mean that Sean’s dad, not Sean himself, has been discussing the job with Yow? That would be pretty clever but not sure if I am reading that correctly.
Timing seems key here … short time Miller has been there, the great, deep run during the coaching search …
This turning into a complete disaster.
And don’t forget who we have to thank for the position we are in. Thanks Lee.
I would love to hear from ItsMillerTyme@gmail.com right now. He seems to have disappeared.
I’m actually glad this happened early. I have confidence DY has a solid back up plan.
Here’s hoping we get Shaka and his havoc to Raleigh.
Time to look at Chris Mack and Gregg Marshall if it is true.
” 2006 redux ”
I highly doubt that. Unlike 2006, we now have an AD that will still methodically search for and hire the best possible candidate.
^ why would we assume DY has a great plan? She’s wiffed publicly twice (Barnes, now Miller). not too different than LF.
If you say so.
Offer Brey now.
Brey is being criminally underrated based on the posts I’ve seen.
So is this our first official public rejection?
It is the first public statement that I know of that any potential candidate has made regarding our job opening. It is also the kind of statement you usually here from someone who has been rejected by the school seeking to fill the vacancy.
If it is true we can move on to the next wave of candidates. I don’t think those guys are mid-major coaches. I still think DY has at least one Dixon/Turgeon/Wright type of guy, who has expressed interest, high on her list. I would expect our next coach to come from that strata of the coaching world.
JAY WRIGHTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTT NOT NOW BUT RIGHT NOW
Thought this time would be different.
Totally underwhelmed by Brey, Turgeon and Grant.
The mid-major guys (Smart, Mooney, Marshall) would also be very disappointing.
Have no faith that this will turn out well (said the State fan).
he needs to pull a sean miller and change his mind.
