Lowe lands another recruit – Tyler Harris(updated 12:30 pm)
Updated 12:30 pm:
North Carolina State coach Sidney Lowe has taken another major step toward upgrading the talent of the Wolfpack by adding SF Tyler Harris (Dix Hills, NY./St. Benedicts Prep) who joins 7-foot center Joseph Uchebo (Word of God Christian Academy (NC) and last year’s No. 1 recruit, McDonald’s All American C.J. Leslie.
“I developed a good relationship with the coaching staff, loved the campus and really liked how hard the players worked and I could see myself fitting in when I was on my visit,” said Harris, who picked the Wolfpack over St. John’s, Providence and Iowa.
“We really loved the wide open style of play and the fact that coach Lowe is a former NBA coach and was a very down to earth person was something that made NC State very attractive. NC State is ready to take the next step in the ACC and Tyler wanted to be apart of that.” said Tyler’s dad, Torrel Harris.
The younger brother of 2010 McDonald’s All American Tobias Harris’, who is a freshman at Tennessee, work ethic rubbed off on Tyler.
Zagsblog has video and article of this commitment:
New York recruiting expert Tom Konchalski said Harris has vast potential, but needs to continue to grow stronger and improve his competitive edge.
“He’s a guy who grows before your very eyes,” he said. “He’s taller at the end of the fourth quarter than he was at the beginning of the first quarter. He has a super-active pituitary gland. He’s going to be 6-10, he might be 6-10 by the end of the season.
“He’s made enormous progress in the last year in terms of competing. He always had that Tayshaun Prince 3-pointer off the catch. He shoots deep 3′s. He could always cover the court well.
“He needs to get a lot stronger, the way Tobias needed to get a lot stronger. He hasn’t done the work on his body to this point that Tobias had done on his body from his sophomore year to his senior year, but he has enormous potential. Since the end of last season, he’s made exponential strides in terms of just competing and really playing hard.”

Original entry:
2011 recruit Tyler Harris is announcing his decision today. Jeff Goodman is predicting Harris will choose to run with the Pack. Last Friday, 2012 PG Tyler Lewis committed to NC State.
We will update this thread once Harris’ decision becomes official. He is said to be choosing between NC State, Iowa, and Providence. Coach Lowe has four open scholarships to hand out for the 2011/2012 season as it stands right now. Harris would join a 2011 recruiting class that already includes a center prospect in Joseph Uchebo.
Tobias Harris’ little brother is headed down south, also.
Tyler Harris, according to sources close to the situation, is expected to commit to N.C. State.
The 6-foot-8 senior forward, a New York native who is at St. Benedict’s (N.J.) this season, also considered Providence and Iowa.
Packpride has some quotes from Harris today:
“I made my decision following my last visit,” said Harris. “I came home and talked with my parents about it and now I’m ready to announce it.
“It was everything about the school. It had everything I was looking for from style of play, a nice campus, a good coaching staff, and great players. I believe I fit in well there with the players and coaches, and I have a great relationship with the coaches.”
Harris is tentatively scheduled to announce his decision at 12:30. Pack Pride will have more from Harris following his decision.

While you’re on Goodman’s blog, scroll down and watch Herb do “The Dougie.”
Can’t believe we ran him out of town with pitchforks and torches…

^if there isn’t a thread for this in the forum…
POST ONE!!! Hilarious!
Tyler Lewis is in the 2012 class, right?
Lewis is part of the high school graduating class of 2012. So he would join the team in the 2012/2013 season. I have that correct…right? Lewis is a rising HS junior IIRC. Harris and Uchebo are rising HS seniors. However, there have been questions about Uchebo’s academic status so there appear to be no guaranties he will enroll next season.
Do we really want two guys named Tyler? LOL
The worst dougie I have ever seen…., I still think we need a PG in this class, maybe angel Rodriguez will commit, we need someone to give brown/harrow a breather, DeAndre Daniels is also out there, I think we can get him if CJ Leslie is a one and done….
Daily – You’re right, Tyler Lewis graduates in 2012. The timing works out there as he’ll come in possibly after Harrow/Brown may have jumped to the NBA.
“Mr. Excitement” Herb Sendek…..of coarse he left he felt he and his families lives were in danger, that’s what old Lee said….
Also saw Joseph Uchebo @ the FSU game, big kid…
We have 2 CJs right now.
Does anyone know where/how Harris is making his decision? Will it be like CJ and Ryan where he has a big signing party, or will it just leak out through the media at some point after he “announces” it?
That’s too funny. I remember HWSNBN dancing with those two state students that entertained us at basketball games for a short period there. It was Slappy and Mean Gene. Those two were pretty funny!
I’d like to see video of HWSNBN dancing with those guys again. It was funny, but that dude (the coach who shall not be named) is as white as they make ‘em!
Also, nice to see recruiting picking up. And if Uchebo doesn’t qualify this year due to grades, will Sid catch heat for that (like he did with Lorenzo Brown)?
Harris has just committed…good job Sid.
great Job Sid, indeed! So glad to see this kind of talent starting to pick the pack over other big offers. The depth is accumulating! Let’s keep it coming!

Awesome work – welcome Tyler!
What is NCAA going to do with Tennessee and Bruce Pearl? Any possibility that the hammer will get dropped and Pearl is ousted? If so we got a chance at landing a big transfer.
I think Pearl got the axe a couple of weeks ago.
Harris is a three star recruit as was Dennis Horner and Mays, and as is C.J. williams. State can’t compete with Duke and UNC when each of those schools recruit mostly five star players. yes, some three star recruits are better than the analyst thought-Scott Wood comes to mind. However, most aren’t. So pardon me if i don’t get excited over yet another three star recruit, especially after Coach Lowe filled the current freshman class with five star recruits.
Harrow and Brown were once not 5 star recruits. Harrow was a top 150ish player when he committed to us. So was Scott Wood who will be an impact player for 4 years at NC State.
He’s got potential. Obviously, he’s not there yet – but you can’t have a team full of 5 star guys at every position. I think he can help us.
Now, we probably need to get another combo or shooting guard.
was Harrow a 3 or 4 star when he committed?
^sbas, I can understand the frustration, but if you read what people are saying about him, it is his potential. They say he might grow a coulpe more inches in the next year, and that he needs to get stronger. I think people place too much “validity” on the star system. There are always busts, and there are always people who suprise. Ususally potential means we have them for more years aka look at Tracy Smith. He was all potential!!
…And then look at Brandon Costner…
Give me a kid with tremendous upside, who works hard and wants to fit into the system with the players on the court, anyday !
