NCAA joins UNC academic probe
CHAPEL HILL — The NCAA has officially joined the academic portion of UNC’s investigation into possible misconduct.
UNC spokesman Steve Kirschner said an NCAA enforcement representative has been on campus condiucting interviews on the academic matters with UNC for the last two days.
Originally, UNC was conducting the academic portion of the investigation as part of the joint review with the NCAA, but athletics director Dick Baddour had said the NCAA might be brought in more formally at a later date.
No matter how you slice this latest bombshell cannot be good news for UNC. Does this mean that the NCAA is not satisfied with UNC’s own investigation into the academic prong of this scandal?
Is Baddour next after Butch? Can it get any worse in Chapel Hill?

So many bombs being dropped today! I can’t get any work done!
Oh please, Oh please oh please look at basketball!!!!!
It’s not a matter of whether “lack of institutional control” is in play, it is now how many counts of it UNC is guilty of.
Sheesh, this is only exceeded in ACC history by the Dixie Classic Point Shaving scandal.
Seems like the NCAA feels sorry for them. Gave them a chance to clean up the academic scandal before they came in the game. Hahahahahha. That pic is sooooo appropriate.
It feels perverse (sp?) to keep following this story. As a descent person (in my humble opinion) I have never enjoyed other people’s misery, not even people I don’t really care for. That said…Damn I love this. I can’t quit checking this site. You guys quit posting all this stuff.
Exceeds Dixie Classic
Reminds me of Jimmy Fallon’s ‘I.T. Guy’ on SNL.
Moooooooooove!
If I had not heard “Amphibious” and “Washburn” 3,000 times from smug “we are better than everyone” UNC people I might not feel this way, but as it is I think they deserve every ounce that is coming their way. This is one of the bigger scandals in NCAA history and they have denied and lied about it the whole way.
^coach13, with all respect, I disagree. We aren’t reveling in ANY misery. What we enjoy is the hypocrisy exposed. I personally know what I consider good people who graduated from unx who are more than ashamed by all this. Those folks weren’t part of the problem and i would never mention it to them. What I would get in someones face over would be the “everyone is doing it” wal-marter answer or the “NC State did it 20 years ago” answer. Those idiots deserve every feeling of dismay and shame that can be heaped on their self-righteous hypocritical heads.
I know you don’t REALLY want SFN to stop posting all this stuff…
Man, just when you think it can’t get any deeper, more and more comes out. I think the question is quickly become what, if anything, will be left behind when the NCAA is done….
Man my productivity is at all time low! I wish I could hear all these bombs dropping on the hill!
Two tire bowls (did they even win either of them?) and a couple of 8 win seasons (until the NCAA takes them away) for in exchange for the death of the program…. seems pretty fair. Sometimes you get EXACTLY what you ask for…
Heck no…I love it! Keep it coming.
I don’t want them to get the death penalty – I just want 25 years to life!
Dadgummit!!
These stories are coming faster than I can buy popcorn! I’m going to have to start buying the large economy bags with extra, extra butter!!
LOL!!
“It’s not a matter of whether “lack of institutional control” is in play, it is now how many counts of it UNC is guilty of.”
Alpha – yep – once the connection between Blake and Wichard emerged, I have been saying that the problem wasn’t LOIC – but rather they were gaining a competitive advantage by cutting corners. IMHO, there’s a big difference.
And I really don’t think it bodes well that the NCAA is now investigating this. They are basically saying what I say to my two and a half year old: “you had your chance and you blew it.”
Oh goody.
If the Cheaters lose to ECU this weekend, the whole place might implode…
Bob Winston stands by his man. I cannot beleive some of the arrogance of the BOT. Of course if it relates to UNC I shouldn’t be surprised
Coach13, ze Germans have a word for relishing in ze misery of others:
Schadenfruede – pronounced scha-den-freu-de
It comes from ze German for Schaden=Damage and Freude=Joy.
Perfect scenario: NC State wins. ECU wins, big.
When Butch Davis/Dick Baddour go, could we get a Pale Rider (not Clint Eastwood, that is) graphic on the article?
Tampa-Pack – Nope, UNC lost both Tire Bowl games.
UNC should look on the bright side – that’s two less victories they’ll have to vacate!
Chief Davis says he not resigning! UNC Board gonna have to get the calvary to get that Indian out of town! Charge!!!!!
