Pano Fasoulas In The News

Since Athens agreed to budget cuts approaching 11% of GDP, local governments have seen a sharp decline in funding. Yesterday, the cut-off caused the city of Piraeus to announce a stop payment on $275 million of debt.
Mayor Panagiotis Fasoulas demanded immediate payment of three years of owed funding or his city would abandon its own debt.

Some 25 years ago, who would have thought you were watching a Greek mayor roaming the court of Reynolds Coliseum?

Pano will forever remain one of the all-time favorite ‘role-players’ for a generation of Wolfpackers.

That guy could knock down some cigarettes.

Goldman Sachs nailed the Greeks. His beef should be with NYC.

Does anyone else remember the “Fasoulas Fan Club”?? Perhaps one of our posters was that guy! He’d done a big ol’ wig and then carry a big ol sign. The cheerleaders even let him on the court usually.

    Good times!

That whole routine was hilarious. The Technician ran a blurb about him tracking when he would pick up his first assist in the write up prior to each game. That’s why I use the name; cause he was a great cult classic. I’m glad to know he’s made something of himself in Greece.

I loved the “Fasoulas Fan Club”!! The crowd would go wild when he would take the court, usually at halftime or long time outs. I seem to remember that he would try to dunk the ball, or at least try a lay-up.

    Great times!!!

“Made something of himself in Greece”, is that like being elected king of Mt. Gilead?

    What would be the point?

Mayor of the 3rd biggest city in Greece and largest port city. I’d say that qualifies as a pretty big deal. Definitely a might bigger of a deal than being mayor of Mount Gilead. Before that he was a member of the Greek Parliament for several years.
