BREAKING NEWS: NCAA INVESTIGATING UNC FOOTBALL
Obviously, much much more to come on this breaking story: UNC is under NCAA investigation for its football program. While not much regarding the substance of this investigation has yet come to light, for some time, murmurs have surrounded the Carolina football program and the practices of some of its coaches.
Apparently, these are not mere secondary violations, as it is extremely unusual for NCAA investigators to come to campus to personally talk to athletes in those cases. Generally, for a secondary violation, the school self-reports, receives a feather-slap on the wrist and promises not to ever do it again. That said, the NCAA must believe it has good reason to take a close look under the hood of the ongoings surrounding Tar Heel football.
Right now, it would be irresponsible to presume guilt or to project the thrust of what the NCAA has in mind. A lot of uninformed speculation and rumor will be spilling out over the next few days, so take that with a grain of salt unless you hear it confirmed by at least 2-3 reputable media sources.
NCAA Investigating UNC Football
“I can acknowledge that representatives from the NCAA have been to Chapel Hill to speak with some of our student-athletes,” UNC athletic director Dick Baddour told Inside Carolina on Thursday afternoon.

It would be so super sweet!!
Oh PLEASE let them finally get what they deserve for what everyone else has known about for some time.
well I thought that the program had the “THUG MENTALITY”. Last year Marvin Austin spoke to reporters in the locker room with his sunglasses own. You know you encourage this behavior ie greg little, this is what you get.
and the top sports story on n&o website is the Tour de France
^ I would be very surprised if it’s not on the front page of the paper tomorrow.
What’s funny is that the UNC-CH peeps always claimed ol’Chuck was cheating and we never even had a secondary violation that I can remember.
CTC knew the rule book backwards and forwards. I think he was probably like he encouraged his team to play: to the echo of the whistle.
So when does our probation start?
One would think there is “fire” if the NCAA goons are on campus “over there” but it is way too early to decide that.
If they are guilty they should be punished, if not I hope this slinks away.
Latest spin I hear is that this involves off-season workouts.

I could not agree more!
Ha ha. Couldn’t happen to a crappier bunch of guys!
No doubt it will be covered in the N&O tomorrow; with attendant articles on other prior investigations of ACC schools-State BB, Clemson FB,FSU FB, etc. Hope the NCAA nails their A$$ to the wall!
Don’t get your panties in a wad just yet. It won’t improve our football record the past three seasons if it comes down to UNC forfeits.
this is all i got to say

If it involves off-season workouts, that’s how Fraudriguez got Michigan in trouble and the NCAA showed up in Morgantown too. So maybe the off-season stuff is more on the NCAA’s radar now.
And Cleveland St is going to catch hell for this.
Already hit the N&O-intersting Dee-BD connection.

That is interesting. I wonder if there’s something akin to a recusal given the connection. This should be interesting to watch unfold.
Someone should contact the NCAA about that house that one player was living in for really cheap rent….the one you guys already did an article on.
ESPN bottom line state it was related to agents and extra benefits. What kind of trouble would this pose?
I am no NCAA rules expert, but haven’t schools gotten major penalties including vacated victories for early sports agent activity w/players? Players are declared retroactively ineligible and games already won are forfeited (unless you can score the Corey Maggette-Coach K treatment)?
If something comes of all this I’m buying the Fresca.
McCallum
I expect the usual double standard to be applied.
But, a small whisper says that the N&O is suffering financially and has a lot to gain if UNC athletics were to become a peeling onion…
