Monday Morning Football [Updated 5:30pm]
In case you missed it, please check out our new message board community and don’t hesitate to contribute as you feel comfortable. We’d love nothing more than to build a community where all relevant topics can be discussed in real time in the forums and continue to drive the blog to focus more on ‘macro’ and editorial items.
Pack Picked 7th
ACC Sports Football Power Poll picks the Pack 7th heading into the year. (Link Here) I recognize that it feels low on the surface; but, you can make a legitimate case for each team in front of us. Of course, I would have rated State ahead of both Miami and UNC-CH and pointed to the Wolfpack’s wins over both teams at the end of last season as my support.
7) N.C. State
Final 2008 Power Poll Ranking: 5
Middle of the pack isn’t so bad for the Pack, which, you may forget, was thin in quality and quantity when Tom O’Brien showed up in 2007. The program is still ahead of schedule.
Pictures of Interest
If you haven’t seen any pictures from Carter-Finley Stadium circulating on the internet in recent weeks then you can click on this link to Pack Pride’s Message Boards to see some of the improvements that have been made. I like the enhancements VERY MUCH. Now, if only someone would remember that the East Side of the stadium still needs upgraded restrooms and facilities to match the west side of the stadium then maybe we would all feel a little more equal while visiting the stadium.

Speaking of Meet the Pack Day:
Awards
Congratulations to Jim Ritcher, an all-time Wolfpack great and one of three NC State players inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame.
Monday Morning Video
If you haven’t seen the Awesomeness of Gamecockery yet then you need to get your week going with a laugh by clicking here.
Honestly…after watching the Awesomeness of Gamecockery, the following video becomes even more funny. (You can browse/skip through it and get the gist).
For another laugh of a different kind, you can watch two guys breakdown the game as impersonators of Captain Obvious and both pick South Carolina for reasons that don’t make an ounce of sense. To provide some balance, this website seems to have a pretty solid track-record of choosing games and is going with the Wolfpack.

Total amateurs in the last video. Hopefully the host watches that and learns not wear that watch so it doesn’t tap the desk every time he talks with his hand.
And that it isn’t a good idea for your shirt to be the exact same color as your suit.
I dig the high budget helmets.
I’m particularly thankful to learn that we have questions at the skill positions. I’ll be sure to make these two a regular can’t miss this year.
Cowdog: I didn’t even think about the helmets. Geez…I wouldn’t have put that video on the internet (no offense to those guys as I wouldn’t do any better).
I read an article that said owen spencer will be out most of season with an injury. Please tell me this is just a mistake. I’d post the link but I’m on my blackberry at work and don’t know how to do that yet.
You don’t need to post the link to tell us the source of the article.
Ok I’m fairly certain now its just a mistake. Its an article from The Daily Gamecocks previewing NC state. The article is written by kevin walker. Sorry about maybe giving people heart attacks but I was so anxious to get over here and see if it was true I lost the link and it took forever for me to track it back down on this thing. Still getting used to it.
I saw the lines painted in Saturday but there was no big Block S at midfield, just two mid-size ones on the 30s. I’ve noticed this is a new trend (GT did it last year, as did a couple others I can’t recall). I don’t like it, but I’m curious if it’s because it’s not good to paint a large area of new turf. Anyone know anything about the reason behind this, or will they just put the Block S at midfield in later? (Hopefully they’ve painted before all of this rain).
Most of the painting and work on the field is done just before game time.
Don’t forget that this is a new field/turf…so, there is no old paint out there to provide an outline.
I would be shocked and disappointed if the field didn’t have a lot of color and a block S by Thursday night
No large block S… http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3056/3868326077_f91021de9e_b.jpg
…and as someone posted on PackPride:
If it’s TOB’s decision, I love it.
If it’s JED’s decision, I hate it.
Sincerely,
Wolfpack Nation
Yeah, I was out there Saturday and noticed it. One rationale I was told is that painting large areas of turf isn’t good for the turf, especially for new turf, so I wondered if that had something to do with it. Or if they were just waiting until closer to gameday to finish adding in the lines.
Let’s just hope we don’t have another opener with no paint on the field, like last year against W&M and in 2006 against App.
That and it supposed to rain cats and dogs the next day or two. Raleigh is awash right now.
Does this have anything to do with the less-than-genius-or-original “White Out?”
I don’t know but the upcoming U2 concert on Oct 3 might be a factor in there too. I would think the turf is going to take a beating from the gigantic stage and the crowd on the field. Bono and The Edge might be buying us some new turf for the Dook game.
Chan Galey has been relieved of the OC duties with the KC Chiefs:

The students are discussing the white out over at http://www.brentroad.com. Here’s the link below. Don’t go there if there are kids with you as you will certainly need to earmuff their eyes:

I can’t bitch about 2 unknowns talking football. They are only as informed as they have researched.
HOWEVER, I’m just about sick and Effin tired of watching ESPN College Football tonight. What a bunch of USC/ALABAMA/etc. homers. All they know is what big games they might have broadcast in the past….possibly with Brent MUSTberger giving the play by oh so slow play.
I watched today (recorded) as they spoke of the ACC Breakdown. 4 teams were mentioned (which is strange because I thought we expanded). FSU, Miami, VT, and (can’t remember now but it was that important).
My point is the (typical) media is so wrapped up on what they have reported for years it is so stale. Take UNC being ranked for instance…..WTF have they done? What have all their recruits done thus far?
We will be an afterthought until we once again prove ourselves to be worthy. I’m not saying that isn’t deserved, it is just frustrating as all hell that last years ACC QB and team are completely undervalued.
That should start changing about 10PMish Sept 3rd….but probably will need the PITT and Clempson win until it sticks.
HOWEVER, I’m just about sick and Effin tired of watching ESPN College Football tonight.
Well I just assumed that their coverage would suck, so I have skipped all of their preseason stuff.
I apologize for changing the subject, but this is my first time posting.
Wolfpack Nation…help me get the word out!
I have been selected to lead the charge to begin a New Wolfpack Tradition at Thursday nights game against “The Cocks!”
A new ERA shall begin with the chant of:
LET’S GO! —- WOLFPACK!
For years the ringing of WOLF — PACK has echoed the halls of Carter Finley. And it will never be replaced.
But with all great things, there does come a time to take the next step & add to what has gotten us here.
So let us begin on Thursday night…(National ESPN Style)
A New Tradition Begins…
LET’S GO — WOLFPACK!!!
Be ready when the time is right!
Carter Finley will Roar!
GO PACK!
