Stat of the Day – BBall SOS
Did you know that the average out of conference strength of the schedule for the past six college basketball national champions is 150?

Typical OOC SOS of 320 for ncsu vs. an average of 150 for national champs – what’s the difference? It’s really the same …
One day, playing Arkansas Pine-Bluff every year will REALLY pay off
^ That is an old perspective. Last year’s OOC was strong. Future schedules look abnormally tough.
^Yes – at least I certainly hope so …
I was more trying to poke fun at a previous regime’s scheduling tactics w/out mentioning them … I failed
To establish a causal relationship between SOS and NCs, you would have to compare other factors, like recruiting rankings, etc., and see if teams with a tougher SOS fare better than similar teams with a weaker SOS.
Remember also that there is a glut of small programs who play killer OOC schedules for financial reasons. 150 isn’t as bad as it sounds.
I don’t think that OOC SOS is as important for many schools, like those in the ACC, since our conference stength is so high.
Granted, I like seeing teams like Marquette, and Florida on our schedule and wish we had more. I would prefer to have 3 or 4 at that level and then some in the 150 range,
overall SOS is more importiant IMO.
Sorry, my ‘memory’ is half a year away from avg. SOS among ACC teams.
In the ACC, you AUTOMATICALLY have a high SOS, then get punished for it by the selection committee.
Help me out by the implication of the headline… what has the SOS for OOC games been for ACC teams [especially ours] and what in the world does it need to be?
I actually have the conference OOC SOS compiled. I was waiting on the schedule to be released to give some perspective on our scheduling comments.
BTW, State’s OOC SOS was 200+ last year….not really all that strong.
