It is Rick Barnes vs John Calipari. A match-up of two premier coaches that NC State could have hired multiple times since 1995. A match-up designed to highligh Lee Fowler’s incompetence as the two primary coaches on which Fowler should have been able close the deal two years ago match-up for the right to head to San Antonio next week for the Final Four.
Personally, I’m pulling for Barnes in this match-up because of (1) his ties to North Carolina; (2) his ties to Clemson and the ACC; (3) the fact that I lived in Houston for four years; and (4) the dignified manner in which he behaved (relative to Calipari) during his conversations with NC State two years ago. But, I think this game sets up very well for Memphis and would take the Tigers if I were betting the money line in Las Vegas (even though I advanced Texas on my bracket at the beginning of the tournament).
This is probably the perfect spot for us to spill some more beans on the 2005 coaching search, but (un)fortunately our time is limited. For your own fun, we suggest that you play in our archives for items that may be of interest to you…and, maybe later in the week we will find some time for some insight into what happened behind the scenes two years ago.
This Final Four is already shaping up as a nightmare for Lee Fowler as it represents countless lessons on how to be proactive and successfully manage your program with UNC-CH and UCLA, both of whom fired their previous coaches who had compiled records and momentum that Fowler would have killed for during the Sendek era (Doherty & Lavin), already punching their tickets.
We’ll open this entry for today’s NCAA Tournament games…and we will direct your attention to two great related entries - Saturday’s Basketball Bytes and Friday’s Basketball Bytes.

But but but the free boards on pack pride are full of people saying Lee Fowler is awesome and did the best job anyone could with the coaching search. Its just a coincidence that many top coaches expressed interest in us but Fowler didn’t land any of them. Cheeky coaches.
^ sarcasm btw
I like Rick Barnes just fine, but I must admit that I am very disappointed in his game plan and the way he is handling his team today …
If he doesn’t calm them down and get some semblance of offensive flow rather than just wild, quick, terrible shots then Texas is going to get absolutely destroyed … Which is too bad, b/c I HATE Memphis
This looks bad so far though …
Great pic, btw ! … God Blessed Texas
I don’t know why people are praising Barnes for his work at UT. Texas (as a state) has three professional basketball teams and the people down there are just crazy about hoops. Barnes walked into a great situation in Texas. The people in Texas just love high school basketball more than any other sport and produce more talented basketball players than anyother state. Plus the basketball facilities at Texas must be better than anyother school in the Southwest, except UCLA’s, and light years better than our own, in Raleigh.
SFN: LOL! You obviously DON’T KNOW what Barnes walked into at UT. You may want to do a little research about the facts of the situation so that you don’t make yourself look so much like a “Stoner”. In 10 years Barnes has become the most successful coach in Texas history after inheriting a program that had 6 scholarship players that was ripped apart by Tom Penders and NCAA problems.
Even though I dislike Calipari & Memphis, Dorsey is a freaking beast. Looks like the Tigers are making a major statement. Hell they should crush UcLA if they keep this up.
As exciting as Davidson’s run has been, I think it’s far more desirable to see Kansas win today, and comfortably. UNC is only going to be knocked out by a team with a comparable level of athleticism, and that ain’t the Wildcats.
Lot of folks on here have seemed ready to hand Carolina the title straight out, but I think any of the other #1 seeds, and especially Kansas or UCLA (I have doubts about Memphis against the very top teams, see Tennessee game), are more than capable of knocking out the Heels.
I’m hoping to see Davidson make it a game through the first half, and Kansas pull away in the second; a Jayhawk win in the Final Four would then allow us all to relax and enjoy what would be on paper one of the best championship games in years.
I have Kansas winning the whole thing. But, Carolina currently looks really good.
I’m kind of glad an ACC school made it to the Final Four, even if it’s Carolina. Now I just want them to lose. They represented the conference, hooray, but I don’t want another local school to pile on more National Titles, since that’d take the solace out of our two, long-ago titles, being even remotely meaningful.
Have to give Memphis credit - that said, I haven’t seen Texas look this bad all year
They are literally running the NC State offense from this year … Augustin (or another) dribbles around out top for 20-25 seconds, try to penetrate - throw up wild shot OR throw wild pass which if not turned over will result in wild shot from wing … other than that they haven’t run any offense at all and have taken some terrible 3-pt. attempts
And Billy P. is right, Texas does not look comfortable at all playing zone … I hope RB has some answers in the locker room b/c Texas is really forunate to be only down 11 pts.
Please Horns, for the love of all that is Holy - beat Memphis!
These games are being played in Reliant…which is a huge football venue. I believe that these venues always help the team that relies the least on the outside shot and prefers to attack the basket &/or use the post. This works even further against UT in this match-up.
How about some pictures of the UCLA cheerleaders as well?
Rick Barnes needs to get his team playing better in the second half or they are done. With the lack of respect I have for Calipari and his slimy morals, I hope Texas can give em hell in the second half.
Watching Calipari makes me want to take a shower. He is just a dirtbag. I personally think him not coming to NCSU was a good thing. There is just a dirty feeling about that guy and his program.
“This Final Four is already shaping up as a nightmare for Lee Fowler …”
It ought to be a nightmare for LF but I doubt he’s lost any sleep over it. Heck, he just got an award from the chancellor at a banquet. He doesn’t care about NC State. He’s just using the AD position as his own personal welfare system.
Is it me or are Memphis chearleaders not much to look at either?
:ugh:
It’s just tough to watch this game and think about what might have been.
I would have been a happy dirtbag with Calipari sticking it to Roy and K on a regular basis.
Roy, Howland, and Calipari are the 3 best coaches in college hoops, in that order (IMHO). All 3 have immensively talented teams that have been coached to play great defense and max effort every minute.
Holes and Memphis on a collision course. That would be one hell of a final.
“How about some pictures of the UCLA cheerleaders as well?”
I second this motion!
And screw it, I’m still pulling for Davidson. I don’t think anybody can beat UNC except Memphis, the way the Holes are currently playing.
I drew some laughs from Duke people and skepticism that I was setting an unrealistically high bar from the UNC folks, but I predicted at lunch on Friday that Roy would have a total of 5 or 6 NCAA titles before he retires, and probably win about 3 out of 4 ACCTs. He’ll be remembered as the best coach in ACC history.
Boy, that makes me sick. But I firmly believe it to be true.
BJD95-YOU MAY BE LITTLE CONSERVATIVE IN THAT STATEMENT-I KNOW IT MAKES ME SICK TOO..
Just a correction to someone saying this:
“The people in Texas just love high school basketball more than any other sport and produce more talented basketball players than anyother state.”
They certainly do love high school sports but football is king. Also, from this data California and Illinois produce many more NBA players than Texas as well as several other states (this is NBA players per capita but you can do whatever math with the numbers you want):
http://www.truthaboutit.net/2007/11/us-state-expansion-onwhere-are-nba.html
and on a map:
http://ballhype.com/story/player_production_by_state_or_where_to_raise_an/
pulling for Calipari…
Roy is a much, much better coach than Dean because he deals with the changing times better. I think that probably applies to Coach K as well.
If you can recruit better talent than almost everybody else, AND can motivate them to give max effort and play lockdown defense…it’s pretty hard not to win championships by the handful, isn’t it?
Ok … Let’s Go Wildcats!!!
Texas just got whopped.
BTW was it just me or did Packer get on any else’s nerves? If he said “the fould line is open in that zone” one more time I think I would have shot my TV.
YOU ARE CORRECT BJD95-I WAS JUST THINKING WHAT STATE WOULD HAVE BEEN LIKE THE LAST 2YRS WITH STEPHEN CURRY AS THE PG-SG-BETTER TEAM -YES -BUT HOW MUCH BETTER???I CAN ONLY DREAM.
Well who woulda thunk it - Davidson is one of five teams still playing.
Texas got manhandled by Memphis-they are so strong with the ball.
Is this the team that gives UNX trouble????
Will Tyler Walksboro domiante this front line???
Can Green shoot over the tall guards of Memphis???
Will Ty Lawson speed be matched and with size&speed???
I think these thingS will have to be anwsered by UNX to win NCAAT.
Refs have established that they’re going to allow physical D on the perimeter against Davidson’s guards … That’s a huge advantage on the defensive end and in the overall gameplay
Lotta hand/body checking going on out there (Duke, Duke, where are you Duke?)
Just think…
Somewhere, Lee Fowler is enjoying a great nap, and dreaming about his next great steak dinner.
Carry on.
Davidson playing some really good D, especially the first part of that half …
Am I the only one seeing a lot of traveling violations going uncalled? … I didn’t know #50 for Chapel Hill was playing in this game
and the winner of this game has to play UNC? oh great. tarheels in the championship game, for sure.
Traveling, continuation and palming all are really loosely called this year-more pro rules.
I’m not a Calamari fan, but it would be “sweet justice” for the “Greasy Boy to beat Mr. Clean at Chapel Hole!
I’m almost afraid to even watch the games. Everytime I start, the opposing team goes into a funk and Carolina starts playing up in the “stratosphere”! Maybe we need to bring back the “no dunk” rule or raise the basket! I’ve never been in favor of that, but these guys are way above the basket anymore.
“Traveling, continuation and palming all are really loosely called this year-more pro rules.”
Watching Brandon Rush attempt to dribble the ball is infuriating to me … almost every time I’m screaming at the tv: “He’s CARRYING the ball!!!” … but the refs never listen to me
STATE BASKETBALL TEAM-THATS HOW HARD YOU PLAY IF YOU WANT TO WIN- GO DAVIDSON!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Talking about not being able to compete because of our “neighbors” or because of not landing the “top talent”, what about those Davidson Wildcats?
Curry is awesome for sure, but every player that gets in the game is competent. Davidson contests EVERYTHING!
ANOTHER THREE!!! GO WILDCATS!!!
IT’S THE BARR AND CURRY THREE POINT SHOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
whatever we do, don’t adopt Davidson. We can’t pass on our bad mojo.
THESE KIDS DON’T WORRY ABOUT ALL THAT–THEIR BETTER,TO LITTLE TO PLAY,MOJO,DON’T HAVE CHANCE-BULLSH%&-REMIND YOU GUYS OF ANOTHER TEAM?????
Funny tvo, but if there isn’t a M A J O R ! ! ! difference in our overall play next season, I wouldn’t mind adopting their coach.
It’s ironic and frustrating as HELL, but yeah turfpack come to think of it, it does remind of another team that also wore RED uniforms.
Lovedale gone, that hurts.
Damnit!!! Curry is forcing and he’s off.
They have played well against Kansas, and without showing any panic. Very, very, impressive showing throughout the tournament.
CURRY THREE!!!
They’re still in it!!!
WHAT I AM AFRAID OF IS THAT SPECIAL THING HAS DIED FOREVER BECAUSE OF THIS GROUP AT STATE NOW-PLEASE SAY IT AIN’T SO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
ALRIGHT!!!
16.8 and a chance to tie or win, can’t ask for much more than that.
DAM* IT
ONE HELL OF A EFFORT BY DAVIDSON!NOTHING TO BE ASHAME OF GUYS-YOU FOUGHT YOUR ASSES OFF-BE PROUD-2ND BEST TEAM IN N.C.IS DAMN GOOD.
Your CAPS LOCK is stuck…please fix it.
“WHAT I AM AFRAID OF IS THAT SPECIAL THING HAS DIED FOREVER BECAUSE OF THIS GROUP AT STATE NOW-PLEASE SAY IT AIN’T SO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!”
Turf, that crap has been spinning around in the toilet bowl for two decades already, it just refused to go down, for some us of anyway.
I wouldn’t blame it anymore on this last group of players then I would the whole program in general, they may have just finished it off though.
Tough loss for Davidson but they shouldn’t be anything but proud of everything they did this season. I’m sure McKillop will be getting some more calls now, but I think he feels he’s doing the right thing, at a great school, and he may just be satisfied to stay where he is.
UNC kills Kansas. Cushy job for Barnes. 20 percent of top 50 high schoolers play in texas and they all want to go to University of Texas.
tufpack — Remember the Phoenix. State will rise from the ashes someday.
Now I officially don’t care who wins it. Well, anybody but you know who. Of those three, I guess I’m for UcLa. No reason other than Howland is probably do.
^red, McKillop has refused a few offers in the past and has said in interviews that Davidson turned into his “dream job” and he feels so at home there … He has said that originally he thought he would be at Davidson for a few years and then move on, but he fell in love with the community and now has to rival Lefty D. as their best coach (along w/ Holland) … that’s a really nice story
I’d be surprised if he left now after 19 seasons, but in this day and age of the almighty dollar, shoe contracts, and media appearances I guess you never know
Don’t forget Frank Haith either. Last weekend it was mentioned during the Miami game that he wanted to come to NC State and would have been a good fit there.
When he’s taking Miami to the Sweet 16 in the next couple seasons and moving on to a big time program Jeb will look all the more stupid! And Haith fits more the ‘up-n’comer’ I would have liked to see come.
And Stoner, the Devil will be ice skating before I’ll ever be glad they won a single game….much less going to the Final 4.
I managed a fourth ticket to the regional finals so the whole family got to see the ‘Horns worst performance of the year.
To the clown who thinks Texas is hoops crazy - When the regional finals were in Houston in 1986 there were only about 5,000 fans in the stands. On one of the Texas web sites yesterday the top story was the write up on the spring football game. The basketball team playing for a final four spot was about third on the page. Can you imagine? That is why I thought we had a shot at Barnes two years ago. He can dominate this state in recruiting as long as he stays at Texas. That will provide him all of the talent he needs to be Sweet 16 / Elite 8 most years, with 3 or so trips per decade to the Final Four.
My opinion of Sidney Lowe has changed and even I’ll have trouble rebuilding the confidence I had when I first heard he was hired. If I don’t see a very different group of players who are driven and playing with a whole different set of values from the very onset of next season, then I’ll be more than happy to part ways and find someone new.
For me, the trouble with that scenario is that it means it is finally all over. That the NC State basketball program will no longer be able to reach back or draw upon what it once was. We’ll be at square one, the years of comfortable mediocrity have taken their toll, and I don’t think I’ll ever be as interested or as excited about it ever again.
Fred, I’m on “that bubble too”. Last year pumped up my enthusiasm and confidence. This year destroyed it!
But remember, we’re no longer mediocre(that means somewhere in the middle). We’re now “dead ass last” and worse than the laughing stock of the ACC!
I hope you younger alumni are taking this in and suffering like us older alum who know what it was like when we didn’t suck!
Hmm…site management has decided to pull for Clemson, Davidson, and Texas…and they all lost. Can you pull for UNC-CH in hopes that they fall the same fate as the others?
sfn - thanks for all the coaching search tidbits… I think.
It’s interesting to get the scoop but ineptness of Fowlup is driving me crazy.
Redfred - totally agree with your comment, If Sidney fails then our bball program totally falls off the map. Sidney is a really smart guy and I just hope he’s open minded enough to learn and adjust fast..really fast.
Just like my son friends have said -Sorry coach we thought n.c.state always sucked. Most young people today don’t have a clue about the legend the is n.c.state-Everet Case(started the cutting down of the nets)Started basketball in the ACC,Dixie Classic,The great teams of the 60’s,The Sloan years in the 70’s,1973 undefeated season-27-0,1974 ACC&NCAA CHAMPIONS-All the great players D.T.-T.B.-M.T.-H.W.,The 80’s -Coach V 1983 ACC& NCAA CHAMPIONS,1987 ACC Champs and so on….Most young people weren’t even born yet-you can’t blame them-guest who I blame?????
B. Jones on 850 the Blues(buzz)Sat. said basiclly if we didn’t pressure H.S. out we would still be getting in the NCAAT.He also said the Admin. wouldn’t have forced(Lee)H.S.out-it was the FANS fault and they now got what they deserve. That’s just what you expect from that crowd from 850 the blues.
I would pull for the Russian to take over the world before I would UNX.Hate is a friendly word compared to my feeling I have toward those bastards, partly because my in-laws are UNX grads.
^Another year under ” “’s misguided direction and I would have probably given up on NCSU BB altogether anyway. Then comes Sidney Lowe, the one time Wolfpack leader and National Champion point guard, and the feeling is…the same.
If Sidney Lowe had never played for NC State, would anyone have been excited about the hire? If he had played for Bowie State and still had a .250 winning percentage, would anyone anyone NOT have been in open revolt?
Being an alum doesn’t make you a better coach.
Walt Hriniak was a terrible hitter…but was one of the greatest hitting coaches of all time. Ted Williams was the greatest modern-day baseball player and he was a terrible coach.
Those who can’t, teach. Those who can’t teach, teach gym. And those who can’t teach gym, coach at NC State forever and then get promoted.
We are in the ever deepen blackhole of lee’s incompetence.THE jury is still out on Sid-hope for the best in the upcoming year.
turfpack : thats how a team plays that is coached properly;
that jury has a verdict on sid already .lee goes but so does sid or this is no best and if you give sid 2 or 3 more years the way he recruits we will end up with 10 guards on the team that can’t play a lick…..jury still out my ass take of the blinders……….hope for the best ? You best head to Lourdes you are talking miracle .
The jury is not still out on Sid. We have seen two years of sub-par (and this year, downright awful) basketball. If we see a third year that is in any way similar to the first two, even LF will fire him b/c the heat is going to be scorching hot on the both of them. LF will take the easy way out, fire Sid, give us a bunch of BS, then hire the consulting firm to do his job, and then take all the credit.
You guys really should quit rooting for other teams over here.
They always seem to lose when you do!
If LF ever hires a bb coach you had better hope he uses a consult firm.
Thank you about that jury still being out ……..case closed guilty of neglect and incompetence
“Being an alum doesn’t make you a better coach.” Noah
Just for the record Noah…..he isn’t an alumni.
(DAME! At least LR could say that much)
^ amen about beng an alum.
Does that online institution he received his degree at have a squad?
Maybe he could practice coaching them.
“Just for the record Noah…..he isn’t an alumni.”
I know, and I started to chase that one around and around, but decided to gloss over it.
Being a former attendee of a school doesn’t make you a better coach.
Seems to me there where numerous NC State fans that didn’t want Calipari. These are the same folks that feel like the academic performance of student-athletes are somehow their business (let us start putting your children’s grades in the paper) so I don’t hold these people in very high regards but to think Calapari would of made Wolfpack fans happy is rewriting history a bit.
An allumni is a former student. It is not limited to a graduate.
Like or not Sidney Lowe is an alumn of NC State University. You don’t have to get a degree from NC State to be an alum. If you notice in NC State publication it will read Sidney Lowe ‘83.
I don’t know all the rules but if you take one class at State after being admitted to a degree program you are classified as an alum whether or not you get a degree.
Some interesting and potentially sad comments by John Wall, i wonder if he has read this blog…
The list of colleges that are interested in him includes practically all the Division I schools, but right now he is most interested in Florida State, Kansas, Texas, Oklahoma State and, of course, N.C. State.
Wall loves his hometown school, but he is concerned about some of the things he has heard, specifically that Wolfpack coach Sidney Lowe’s job security may be tied to signing him.
“It is almost like some people are trying to force me to go there,” Wall said. “Can you imagine? A coach like Coach Lowe having his job depend on signing some kid.
“I don’t want him to lose his job, but don’t put that pressure on me.”
Lowe already has a commitment from Wall’s sophomore Word of God teammate, C.J. Leslie.
Leslie, who said his commitment to State is “pretty solid,” was exceptional in the showcase, passing, rebounding and scoring
Ismael: I don’t think the kid is that stupid and the chances of him coming here are very slim as well. Stop blowing smoke up sids ass also another article by the n&o writers towing the company line a part of our problem here as well most times the articles in n&o are as sugar coated as the gopack ones .
And by count if mays does come here what will sid have 12 guards on the squad??
ok alum but that should have never entered into it ,you hire the best possible candidate you make a mistake, you pull the plug.
I would hold Calipari in higher regard if any of his players ever graduated. We don’t need to be Harvard, but when you reach the point where no one on the team ever finishes a degree you’ve gone too far in the wrong direction.
The jury is not still out on Sid. We have seen two years of sub-par (and this year, downright awful) basketball.
His first year here he won 20 games, for what it’s worth. He showed some good ability to manage a game and notched the first win, in NCSU history against a Roy Williams coached team. Problem for us, and Sid, is he needs a solid PG to make his offense work. If we can get some solid PG play next year, we’ll be better.
I think Wall should relax. Recruiting a kid can make or break a coach’s carier, which is just a fact of life in college basketball. Good recruiting is essential for a winning program. A coach, who cannot win recruiting battles, will not usually be around for long.
If he does go to NCSU, he will be under a lot pressure, because he will be the first top notch point guard we’ve recruited in ages.
Unfortunately for us, we don’t remember what it’s been like to have a team that started off the year under a lot of pressure to win, let alone an individual player. The other schools, in our neck of the woods, start off the year under tremendous pressure to win, with anything less than a trip to the Final Four being considered a bad year.
We just don’t have the “infrastructure” to manage those expectations and how it would impact players.
“I would hold Calipari in higher regard if any of his players ever graduated. We don’t need to be Harvard, but when you reach the point where no one on the team ever finishes a degree you’ve gone too far in the wrong direction.”
Unfortunately this is really an either/or. There are a handful of universities in the country that can attract great athletes that also excel in the classroom but the vast majority of star basketball players are more athlete than student.
I thought we tried the student-athlete route in the early 90’s and it ended 40 years of great NC State basketball tradition. Personally, because I could care less what kind of grades Javier Gonzales makes, I prefer the Valvano/Sloan years to the Robinson/Sendek years. But to each is own.
kyjelly, i don’t think its a matter of whether the kid is “stupid”, he’s clearly not. There are a few NCState blogs (posters on the blogs to be more exact and statefans included) who have tied their support of the team, their support of the coach etc. to whether or not John Wall is in the ‘09 recruiting class.
I agree that the N&O reporter probably baited him into it and asked him: “Hey, have you heard about Lowe’s job may directly impinge on you going to NCSU????” Wouldn’t surprise me a bit about those cocks.
So i’m not mentioning because i’m in love with Lowe, i want him to get a fair shot if for no other reason it wouldn’t scare off potential replacements. You just never know who reads stuff and how it affects them and their decisions.
BillyVest,
We were a bad basketball team last year, an awful one this year. Where did we finish in the ACC these past two years? Sid’s ACC record is approaching his NBA record, and that isn’t a good thing. The juryy, in my mind, is decided. He gets one more year to show what he is made of. If it is any way, shape or form close to what the past two seasons were, then the program will hit rock bottom.
“The jury is not still out on Sid. We have seen two years of sub-par (and this year, downright awful) basketball.”
Sid’s first year was subpar? ACC finals without one player that would even start for 75% of the other ACC schools and a 6 man roster is a subpar year? Picked up JJ Hickson after not even starting the coaching job until July 1st.
This year was a disgrace but the team still has very little ACC talent (with almost no starter that would start for any other ACC school) due the person the current coach replaced.
Listen no kid is deciding his future school listening to non playing fools as yourselves ….He is from the area I assume he has a TV and has seen us play in person. Case Closed ! I would not be at all suprised that was a gopack deal as well in n&o .A 7 y/o knows that losing 9 in a row and last place is not a good thing.
“Sid’s first year was subpar?”
Yes, if you consider records as part of the equation for judging success.
“This year was a disgrace but the team still has very little ACC talent”
I disagree. We were picked third by most media. Why? Hickson will play in the NBA. Grant would start for a ton of ACC teams. Fells has talent, just can’t figure out how to do anything with it. Costner has talent. If you don’t think he does, then how do you explain his freshman season? Sid had a solid core to build on. But he has not built anything. He has not recruited a guard capable of doing anything productive on the floor. He has not taught, inspired, motivated, any of these guys how the game is supposed to be played. There is a dosconnect between the way we play the game and the way he played the game.
I am sorry if you feel that is too harsh. But I have not see so much “talent” wasted in a long time. The same people that said last year “look at how marvelously Sid is coaching these guys”, to that wonderful 5-11 record, are now saying “well he wasn’t left with anything”. You can’t have it both ways. The truth is Sid finished in a tie for second to last last year and in a tie for last this year. It has been a damn long while since NC State was ever this bad. And that’s on Sid. It’s his mess to fix, or get out.
I’d feel better if they replaced Light Bulb Oblinger and Jed Fowler with Britney Spears and Lindsey Lohan, in that order. The similar hair thing would be the determining factor to give Britney the nod over Lohan, for Oblinger’s position. There has to be at least some continuity ya know.
For once and for all look at last season and this season was last seasons sucess because of sids wonderful coaching? Or was it the return of askur who knew how to run the show on the floor?
We can debate a lot of things, but there is ZERO excuse for the performance this season. I’ve heard about Grant and his overactive libido, but for a Coach this is totally unaccetpable.
I have no clue whether he is a good coach, but I do know coming out of next year we cannot accept a repeat performance. If one of my employees screws the pooch for 2 straight years they are out of job.
blackdom…i don’t have the facts and figures in front of me, i think its even been chronicled way back on this very board though, that recruits in past years at various schools have admitted to making decisions based on things they read on msg boards.
“Sid’s first year was subpar?”
Yes, if you consider records as part of the equation for judging success.”
How easily people forget that Herbert left NC State’s program in far worse shape than Les Robinson left it.
He had his recruits commit to him an not NC State and when he finally decided to turn his back on a school that stood by him after 10 absolutely awful years he left the program with nothing but bad press.
How this has become Sid’s fault is beyond me.
^Wow. Well we will just have to agree to disagree on that one.
t-t-t, there have been many threads on here discussing who left the better players behind between both LR and ” “, and it is a very arguable debate, though most HSSS’ers fail to see that Les R was shackled for the majority of his tenure. But you have to be honest and admit that no matter what the problem was in this particular preceeding season, Coach Sidney Lowe did NOT get a handle on it and it was a absolutely pitiful showing from top to bottom.
I’m still not going to put any burden of wins and losses on the team and coaches for next season, but there had better be a total turn around in attitudes and effort at the very start of the very first game, or my man, and my coach, Sidney Lowe, needs to just pack his things and quietly move on down the road.
^ Agreed about next year.
