NCAAT Friday - Tell us more about the how great the Pac-10 is

* Friday’s Games

* The over-rated Pac-10 conference lost two teams on the first day of the NCAA Tournament when Arizona and USC lost to the Big East and the Big 12, respectfully. Poor Doug Gottlieb probably didn’t get any sleep last night in between his sobs.

* Duke barely escapes Belmont.

* I expect Miami to lose today and Clemson to have a dogfight on their hands with Villanova. But, if the ACC were to advance all four of its teams to the 2nd round then I sure hope the media picks up on the statement and publicly re-addresses the conference/VPI’s snub by the tournament selection committee.

* A lot of people are hot on Pitt…I would be if I hadn’t been hot on them most of the last five years only get burned every time I chose to advance them deep into my brackets.

* Dan Wetzel has a notebook of the day’s action posted on Yahoo Sports.

I like Pitt and their coach, but the free throws are going to eventually kill them. They missed 25 free throws against Georgetown and somehow still won last weekend. They can’t get away with that again.

Doug Gottlieb is hard to listen to. He trumpets his cause and will not consider reasonable differences in opinion.

The PAC10 administrators must be masters of propoganda. It is not the strongest conference, but the talking heads seem to have been convinced that it is.

If only the ACC had an Oregon State this year to give all our other teams two free wins. If you take out those 2 wins for everyone in the Pac 10, those bubble teams resumes don’t look nearly as good. Yet all you hear about is the depth of the Pac 10.

    Let’s go Tigers!

I hope Clemson stomps the sh*t out of Villanova … I’m sick of listening to almost every “analyst” say how Villanova will move on (as if Clemson won’t show up) … These are the same analysts who of course, overvalued the Pac10 … hmmmph

Seth Davis actually just picked the largest upset I have on my bracket - Siena over Vandy … I’m not sure what his agreement w/ my upset pick means :(

I hope the Wildcats can get past Gonzaga today … it’s a shame they have to match up in the first round b/c I like cheering for each of those schools …

Happy First Round Friday! (and Good Friday!)

“If only the ACC had an Oregon State this year to give all our other teams two free wins. ”

Uh, they did, just replace Oregon with NC.

Rick - Oregon State won zero games in the Pac 10 - they may be the only school in the major conferences to go winless in conference play. That has a huge impact on pushing teams from mediocre to a perceived “bubble-boy.”

I agree that the Pac10 is horribly overrated. I do think UCLA, Stanford and Washington State were impressive yesterday. They have - who Oregon left today? One thing is certain, w/ a greater seed winning and the lesser seed losing to another major conference, we have more evidence that the stupid ESPN line we’ve heard so much “The Pac-10 is the best conference in the nation” was nothing but the usual unsupported dribble that we’ve come to expect from this pisspour network. (On another note, I watched Sportscenter Wednesday night and the lead story on the eve of the greatest event in college sports —-the NBA. Go figure, now that ESPN has NBA, it’s the lead story even though it’s ratings are a joke.)

What is the difference in 0 and four? not much
I also would imagine their RPI is so bad it really drags down their opponents.

BTW, Duke should have lost last night.

Has anyone seen a transcript or news article from Lowes radio show Monday night? WRAL doesn’t have anything on it and neither does gopack.com. I’m real curious if anything was discussed other than JJ going to the NBA. I’m still trying to find out if Sid acknowleged the problems of this season and hinted at changes to come. Please provide a link if you have it. I need some hope for next year.

Wolftown^^ I had heard from someone else that Sid admitted that they were getting back in the gym next week because “everybody needs to get better.” He also said that “everyone” meant not just the players but the staff included.

He also commented that Costner needs to lose some pounds and work on his shot, he may have been mentally worn down throughout the year. I think thats all I can remember…

  9. 9 wufpup76No Gravatar

Wolftown, go to near the bottom of this thread:

    http://www.statefansnation.com/index.php/archives/2008/03/17/wolfpack-finally-finds-way-to-win/

I tried to paraphrase anything relevant that Sidney had to say on his radio show … He did say the team was hitting the gym starting next week

Nova does have strength against things Clemson makes a living on though: pressure full court D and easy turnovers. If Clemson gets past this game they could go pretty far, bit Nova will be a pretty tough game for them.

  11. 11 GAWolfNo Gravatar

    couple things:

    1) SFN: it’s respectively unless the point is they were gracious in defeat. you do quality work…so I’m not making fun…just pointing that out.

    2) weren’t WE the whipping boy for the acc this year?

    3) in charleston watching from a bar in the battery. wife is shopping, and I’m left to my vices: beer and basketball. not a good situation brewing with the inlaws in town “ass” well.

    4) watching with a heap of davidson fans…would love to see the nerds pull it out. NERDS! NERDS! NERDS!

    5) can’t wait to watch clemson in this town at 10pm. should be good times if they can win. should have worn orange.

  12. 12 TripNo Gravatar

Man I hope Davidson wins. Curry is on fire, he must remember the last time he was in raleigh when they got snubbed. He has score like the last 15 points.

  13. 13 MrPlywoodNo Gravatar

Curry is the bomb. Man, how many empty seats are there at the RBC Center? I’d be there if I could.

  14. 14 BJD95No Gravatar

Nice second half by Miami. I would be happy to see McClinton make a nice run - he’s paid his dues.

  15. 15 TripNo Gravatar

TN scared me a little for a few minutes, I have them winning it all in my bracket and American was roughing them up. :o
Drake needs to step up their game, though.

  16. 16 wufpup76No Gravatar

“how many empty seats are there at the RBC Center?”

chapel hill fans … what else is new? ;)

nobody else matters but those holes in their eyes …

when I went in ‘03-’04 it was sold out and the crowds were great throughout the day (wake and duke were each playing in the rbc)

  17. 17 BJD95No Gravatar

It looks like Dell Curry has at least one more son. Sign his ass pronto.

  18. 18 TripNo Gravatar

Davidson pulls it out ! Now they are rewarded with a match up against Georgetown :\ I wish they would have been seeded higher so they could atleast make it to the sweet 16, they can beat a lot of 3-16 seeds but I Don’t think they have the size to take out the giants at 1/2.

  19. 19 wufpup76No Gravatar

alright Davidson! … Miami gets a win, too …

I actually don’t mind so much when they keep cutting to Stephen Curry’s mom … she’s fairly attractive

  20. 20 WulfpackNo Gravatar

    Yea Davidson!!!!!!!!!

    Curry is a phenom!

Did you guys catch that shot of Jed with his daughter sitting at the scorers table? The irony in witnessing a team like Davidson be more successful on your home floor…

  21. 21 BJD95No Gravatar

Drake/WKU is a really good game.

  22. 22 TripNo Gravatar

Drake is redeeming themselves. Came back from 10 down to tie it up with 30 seconds left…

Agreed about Curry’s mom… a helluva lot better looking than Deron Washington’s mom, too.

  23. 23 NoahNo Gravatar

Stupid hilltoppers. My bracket is taking a beating.

  24. 24 BJD95No Gravatar

    Wow. What a finish!

  25. 25 TripNo Gravatar

Wow. Thankfully all 3 (Kent St, Kentucky and now Drake) of the picks i’ve missed were getting knocked out in the next game.. but still, what a finish.

  26. 26 NoahNo Gravatar

I have missed more than three…but yeah, I’ve got someone else advancing, so my bracket isn’t dead yet.

  27. 27 MrPlywoodNo Gravatar

“It looks like Dell Curry has at least one more son. Sign his ass pronto.” - LOL - State’s claim to fame in 07-08… the last team to beat Davidson.

  28. 28 wufpup76No Gravatar

I had Drake going to the sweet 16 … whoops!

I don’t mind seeing the ‘toppers win though … great comeback by Drake, awesome finish by WKU though

If Conn. gets past San Diego I hope WKU can get ‘em!

  29. 29 Sweet jumperNo Gravatar

Gooooo Wildcats!!! Curry is the man.

  30. 30 BoKnowsNCS71No Gravatar

I’m 15 of 20 but in my group the only person to take Kansas so I’m holding out for those 32 points to come from behind.

  31. 31 LRMNo Gravatar

Drake never had a chance the minute I decided to cheer for them.

Everyone see Jed front and center in the RBC?

  32. 32 burnbarnNo Gravatar

Thanks for the transcript Wolfpup… that was some good info.

  33. 33 packman90No Gravatar

I know this is ramdom but still it’s a good video

  34. 34 packman90No Gravatar

  35. 35 WolftownVA81No Gravatar

^Thanks Wufpup76. Would be nice if Gopack would publish the transcripts so you didn’t have to type it all. Appreciate the effort.

  36. 36 MrPlywoodNo Gravatar

San Diego is looking good. But I think if my name was spelled GYNO, I might ask for a do-over.

  37. 37 BJD95No Gravatar

I hate UConn as much as Duke and UNC. They have the most obnoxious fans, coach, and cheerleaders in the country.

  38. 38 BJD95No Gravatar

Again, evil is close to being vanquished. But I don’t expect it to die.

  39. 39 BJD95No Gravatar

You just know the assholes will win.

  40. 40 BJD95No Gravatar

Evil forces overtime, where it will surely win. Damn it.

  41. 41 BJD95No Gravatar

So much evil. Duke, UNC, and UConn will probably all make the Final Four now.

  42. 42 NoahNo Gravatar

    ha!!!!

  43. 43 NoahNo Gravatar

That was uh…quite a play out of a timeout. :)

  44. 44 BJD95No Gravatar

Did I speak too soon? :)

  45. 45 NoahNo Gravatar

“Okay, I want you to dribble over here and see this spot? Shoot from here. And I want you to make it. Okay, BREAK!”

  46. 46 NoahNo Gravatar

There goes UConn…and there goes my bracket. So long, Bracket.

  47. 47 WulfpackNo Gravatar

With SD and WKU, go ahead and book UCLA for the Elite 8…

  48. 48 BJD95No Gravatar

My faith in a just and merciful God is rejuvenated! Suck on that, Calhoun (and Hodge says hello).

  49. 49 NoahNo Gravatar

Does anyone NOT have UCLA in their final four?

  50. 50 BJD95No Gravatar

UConn losing is worth trashing my bracket for. Duke’s win still stings, though.

  51. 51 WulfpackNo Gravatar

UCLA will sleep walk to the Final Four in this bracket.

  52. 52 CaptainCraptacularNo Gravatar

I don’t have Ucla.. I figured after getting there twice in the last 2 years their luck would run out somehwere along the way this time. Unfortunately I had Uconn being the ones to take them out. Oh well.

  53. 53 ClarksaNo Gravatar

Love the fact UConn went down…don’t really like that team.

  54. 54 VaWolf82No Gravatar

It looks like Dell Curry has at least one more son. Sign his ass pronto.

Committed to Liberty in the Big South.

  55. 55 WulfpackNo Gravatar

^Well then, maybe Mr. and Mrs. Curry could have a couple more? By that time, we might be in position to make real use of them.

  56. 56 RAWFSNo Gravatar

Noah, I have UCLA winning it all. They may be in the Pac-10, but they are a great team. Hopefully, I shall live long enough to see another such a team wearing the Red and White.

  57. 57 wufpup76No Gravatar

    Go Toreros! … awesome!

I have UCLA winning it all, but I don’t care about my brackets - I’m hoping for as many upsets as possible :) … I think it’s great that either San Diego or Western Kentucky will be in the Sweet 16 …

“So much evil. Duke, UNC, and UConn will probably all make the Final Four now.”

^That’s AWESOME. Good to know I’m not the only one to think like this

  58. 58 NoahNo Gravatar

I have UCLA, Texas, Louisville, and Kansas in my final four. UCLA over Kansas in the finals.

  59. 59 BoKnowsNCS71No Gravatar

Siena taking Vandy to task 26-13

  60. 60 WulfpackNo Gravatar

UNC scored more points (60) in one half than we did in five games.

  61. 61 BJD95No Gravatar

It sure is nice to be able to avoid the Carolina game like the plague. Go Saints!

  62. 62 JeremyHNo Gravatar

what the f*** , how the f*** did Oregon get in? geez. 8-8 in the PAC 10, wooh nelly.

  63. 63 WulfpackNo Gravatar

Perhaps a better question is how the SEC got six bids. Miserable tournament thus far.

  64. 64 BJD95No Gravatar

I’ll say one thing - the people in Tampa are more than getting their money’s worth today. Let’s hope our Tigers don’t fall victim to the upset bug.

  65. 65 BJD95No Gravatar

A tradition unlike any other - me not giving a shit about The Masters.

  66. 66 wufpup76No Gravatar

    Wooo hooo Siena!

good day for 13 seeds … glad those punks from vandy are going down

I broke many objects in my old apartment when we collapsed against vandy that year :(

  67. 67 BoKnowsNCS71No Gravatar

Looks like another Pac 10 goes down. Oregon. I think the NCAAT was probably wise to snub ASU and I’m thinking that those who have UCLA as national champs in their bracket are dreaming.

  68. 68 packpowerfanNo Gravatar

Damn I wished I picked Siena! Oh well, hopefully it’ll be easier for Clemson to beat Siena than Vandy…if they get past Nova that is.

  69. 69 wufpup76No Gravatar

Looks like ANOTHER Pac10 team is going down, this time to an SEC school … and the SEC hasn’t exactly had a great year or tournament

Steve Lavin’s hair gel must be melting by now

    Go Tigers!

  70. 70 MikeNo Gravatar

The SEC and Pac 10 are looking pretty bad. Personally I like the Davidson’s and other small schools. I always root for the underdogs and “stories”.

What I would really like, and I know it would never happen because of $$$ would be for each conference to send two teams, almost like the good old days when each conference only got one. I think one is harsh, but two would be fair. Give the Reg Season champ a bid and the tourney champ a bid. I think the smaller conferences have shown 2 teams can compete with the big dogs (MEAC and a few others are the exceptions). Might be fun.

  71. 71 BJD95No Gravatar

Clemson/Nova live blogging thread is open - see you there!

  72. 72 highstickNo Gravatar

It was sickening to see that Baby Blue crap playing on our home court!

  73. 73 RochesterNo Gravatar

How good would Siena be if Jack McClinton hadn’t transfered to Miami? They might have beaten Vandy by 30.
