WRAL/TWC to Show All NCAAT Games in HD

I’m looking forward to being glued to my couch from after my business lunch on Thursday until Sunday night. Cable companies may very well be evil, but they just bought a whole hell of alot of goodwill with me! The new wrinkle this year is running all 4 HD feeds at concurrently - no more choosing between the good game in SD and the mediocre one in HD. Which means no Duke or UNC for me (unless they’re losing).

Is this going on in any other markets, or just Raleigh?

I look forward to ignoring the whole thing. I don’t care about if the Pack’s not in it. I spent an enjoyable weekend not watching the ACC Tournament while other folks were complaining about (or secretly praising) the officials. But I’m glad for you sports junkies with HD.

It is rare for other markets to even multicast SD due to the power it takes out of the main signals, HD and SD and often lowers the picture quality. WRAL gets to do it since they are able to send the HD signals over to TWC by fiber optics.

    But this is pretty awesome.

DirecTV will eventually need to figure out a way to compete with things like that, or they’ll lose some subscribers. The wide array of local offerings available through cable are a massive advantage… and very smart.

But since I hate the cable company, I’ll still stick with DTV.

I can’t wait for more “SHAWTY GET LOOSE!”

Wish you had not told me that. I have HD and this will be nice.

boy I miss WRAL… we’re not getting the treat here in Winston Salem. As usual, I’ll have only one HD feed. I’m not surprised this is coming from WRAL, seeing how it was the first HDTV station in the U.S.

I get back to Wilmington tomorrow night, and I am very interested in checking out what we will have from TWC since we only get WRAL half the time.

Plus, the latest HD DVR from TWC is a P.O.S. The software is so buggy we have to reboot about every 3-5 days. I would pay good money for an older model.

Go Pack, get your “learn on” during Spring Practice!

This is the lease TWC can do considering their cable is twice what DirectTV would be. Damn condo associations….

DirecTV has more or less the same thing. I gave up on cable and its high bills a long time ago. There’s nothing quite like a guaranteed price for several years not to mention a better (by far) picture.

just had to toss out the one bit ray of hope coming out of ncstate athletics…T.O.B.

On being asked about the new body of Curtis Crouch, t.o.b. said:

“Curtis has had a tremendous out-of-season program. He’s really changed the way I think he’s approached his whole future and I think that’s what it is about right now…. he understands that this time next year he’s going to be sitting around like all these guys working out for the draft. You can’t wait until next year to get things done. Right now you’ve got to get it done, make sure you’re in shape, and work hard. His resume is going to be written next fall and he’s done a great job getting himself prepared for this”

Crouch should have been one of the most dominant OG/OT’s in the conference, instead it looked like he had been dominating the trainer’s table, i.e. the Chow Line. He weighed in at un-manageable 330+ all last year.

Shawty Get Loose -> Shawty already is and looks “loose”.

To show you how the triangle is on the cutting edge…i remember when i left the confines(and it did feel confining somewhat) of the Old North State to do my undergrad in Rochester, NY. Back in ‘94 people (mostly geeks) were talking about this contraption called the INTERNET. I remember getting on a massive digital-Unix box with a beautiful 21in ($3K at the time) monitor, opening NCSA-Mosaic v1.0, and “searching” for this new fangled thing called a “website” in North Carolina.

At the time, when their couldn’t have been more than 1,000 or so websites in the whole world, and i don’t think any of them were porn yet, the one i remember and couldn’t believe was http://www.nando.net. Now i was able to read the (un)beloved news and observer from so very far away…and WRAL (I sent in a drawing once when i was a little kid to that old-dude before Greg Fishel that everyone loved to death and he put it on the air) is now an HD television station.

Don’t know where all that came from, back to work and “line-item shipping URLs”

PLUS 1. After the NCSU loss, I only watched about 40 seconds of the ACCT, and that was by accident. I will not be watching any games this weekend either. Taking my five year old camping, and leaving the TV at home. A big cooler, and a slow burning fire as I send the season up in smoke!

welcome to the 21st century ,guess you can throw out your rabbit ears.

  15. 15 stlouiswufpackerNo Gravatar

^if you still have rabbit ears they won’t do you any good by next February anyway.

  16. 16 chuck nevittNo Gravatar

Rabbit Ears will tune Digital TV just fine. It’s the NTSC tuner that’s becoming obsolete for over-the-air broadcasts.

“(I sent in a drawing once when i was a little kid to that old-dude before Greg Fishel that everyone loved to death and he put it on the air)”

Ed Debardeladen (or something like that) … I can’t believe I still remember him after all these years … I think they named a street after him in Cary or something? (forgive me for talking out of my a**, but I think that’s right)

Also, I used to love that Arakarwa lady (spelling is way off, naturally) on wral before she left for chicago or somewhere … I grew up on a dirt road w/ no cable or satellite when I was real young, so wral and wtvd were about all I had in those years :(

    Thank God for DirecTv :)

Adele Arakawa is now at KUSA in Denver, CO. If you ever fly in or out of Denver, you’ll hear her voice too, she did the PA recordings.

  22. 22 wufpup76No Gravatar

HA! thanks RAWFS … I guess I could’ve googled her … I used to have the biggest crush on her when she was @ wral

ohh the memories … hey! we were even a relevant basketball program back then! :)
