For those who say, “As Courtney Fells goes…”, he finally convinced me once and for all in this “must win” game tonight. When I say that, I mean that no matter the importance of the game, or how much his teammates could use his help, he just doesn’t really want, or care, to “go”, at all.
Maybe everyone will continue to love him after he shoots some really late shots in the Clemson game, and after our own radio announcers give him the nod for another POG award though.
Courtney Fells is not a heady basketball player. He just hasn’t picked up the things he should have learned by now — and that’s under two different head coaches.
How far is it from fan disgust to apathy? Actually, that’s not fair .. I started with guarded excitement and enthusiasm for the first 2 minutes of the game before drifting slowly to disgust over the next 35 min of game time, with a ray of hope in there a few times but very briefly. They did get within 5 but there wasn’t any reason to think they could get it done as long as Rice kept the ball in his hands.
Like I’ve said before – being a State fan is like getting kicked in the nuts, writhing in pain for a few minutes, then standing up to wait for the next kick.
Bad loss to a bad team in front of the ten fans that cared. It’s kinda like the loss last year at the U. No reason to play that way, but we did the result was not good. They should go practice as soon as they touch down at RDU. Frustrating, frustrating. Maybe the spirits of 1983 will shine down upon us one more time on Saturday.
This falls in to the strange but true category. After tonights loss I officially have given up hope for this season of Pack basketball so the thought crossed my mind to start to root for the Carolina Hurricanes hoping that maybe they could get into some meaningful post season play. I just heard on 850 the buzz that Ron Brindamour tore his acl and is out for the season. Sorry for even having that thought Caniac fans. I promise to continue not to care.
F*** next year (see username). People always get on our team’s case for “giving up,” and yet we still have 6 games left, as well as the ACCT, and people are writing this season off. You never know what could happen.
I said this on the other thread, but I really think it bears repeating (though I will try and be less wordy.. ).
The problem that our program now faces is larger than one coach. Sid may or may not be a good coach. The problem is that our “window” to be a top program, which can attract top talent has now closed. That window was open up through Coach V, but years of futzing around with Les and Herb meant that we stood still while our rivals went farther and farther ahead.
Now we can literally never catch up to where the top talent wants to come here. The gap between us and UNC-CH used to be about 10 feet, now it’s a mile.
We may win a title here and there, but sustaining a top program is gone. RIP.
I did not like Lowe’s post game comments tonight at all. Hell, if you’re going to go over half a season saying your players gave “good effort” over and over again, when it was apparent to them and everyone watching that they did not, then don’t jump up and start criticizing them now when it’s too late to do any good. It’s you that was too late to have any affect Coach. They were just giving it another “good effort” tonight, just like the last “good effort” that their Head Coach spoke about on the radio.
SMD, I agree and I’ve said similar before, but with some differences. Les Robinson didn’t shun and totally ignore NC State’s past greatness like his predecessor did for an entire decade. That ten years is where those previous positive accomplishments were erased from the following generations. Also,…well, I started to say that NCSU could still do it, but it’s been converted into basically a comuter school now, with the likes of Egg Head Oblinger and Lee Follower steering the ship.
“I’ll also add that we were all but out of the NCAAT in HWSNBN’s last year right up until our wins in the ACCT.”
You’re getting your years mixed up. In Herb’s last year, we were 10-6 and lost to Wake Forest in the ACC tourney in our first year. We didn’t just back into the Big Dance – we fell into it. We did right the ship for one game, beating Cal in the first round.
The year before, we won 2 ACC tournament games to get our at-large bid after a 7-9 regular season. We went to the Sweet 16 the same year – and held a 9 or 13 point lead against Wisconsin at the half – only to blow it.
Ben McCauleys Class was top 10, Julius Hodges’s Class was great, and the one with Chris Wright was going to be good. JJ Hickson is great. We haven’t passed our moment to recruit well or play well. And I will say that almost every ACC team takes their lumps. Compared to the greatest programs in the land, we might have fallen short over the years but some of those “great” programs have fallen short a few times too. It happens. NC State will have our time in the sun. We had a few bad games, support and encourage your coach and players. They said tonight that the coach from BC lost 12 straight once, Carolina had their stretch of losing, MD has had their lumps. We are just taking ours, we will be back. We aren’t helping the situation by bashing our players and coaching staff. Who wants to hop on this train the way you guys are talking? I have never been a Lowe supporter because I was bitter over losing Herb for a while, but give me a break. We don’t have a point guard to run an ACC calibur offense whether it be Princeton style, pro sets, or run and gun. Carolina’s “other four” are better than our other four and they have more depth and still they need the refs to help them win a game too. We don’t have that benefit. Ok, we don’t make it to the dance, Wake has missed some dances under Prosser. He was still a great coach. Lowe took a job nobody wanted, now give the team some time to grow and develop a point guard.
Go Pack! Man I love the Wolfpack and you guys sound real fairweather! (I know that’s not the case by the way) You were proud in the good times of 74 and 83. Be proud tomorrow. WE all want better, but this mindless chatter isn’t helping
ncsu_kappa, Could anyone seriously watch that game and say that our boys poured their heart and soul into this game, and showed guts and toughness? You’re right about teams hitting rough spots, Carolina and Duke have had 1 season out of the last 20. If you love this school and have the passion for this program as I do, you should be pissed, frustrated and bitching a little bit at the fact we’ve gone backwards and our boys don’t appear hungry.
We will be dramatically better next year because…?
Having Sid coach State seemed like the Perfect Storm at first. Now we’re just getting rained on.
How can we play like that? How?

At one point, I saw Sidney Lowe with his head in his hands. His body language seemed to say this just can’t be happening.
all i can say is….. boooooooooooooooo!

BJD – 7:15 – We suck. 16-7.
Ed89 – 10:25 – We REALLY suck. Don’t even care, 17 point loss!
we are not a good team. being a state fan sucks.
Like I’ve said before – being a State fan is like getting kicked in the nuts, writhing in pain for a few minutes, then standing up to wait for the next kick.
westwolf,
We will be better next year when the Marion, Indiana high school starting 5 comes to Raleigh to become the next fab five……….

I think we just ran out of “must wins”.
We’re cursed…

Not to kick us while we are down … oh what the heck, we love to wallow in our misery.
Might as well, misery is the only thing the football and basketball teams deal us.
Has anyone seen Mississippi play this season.
They lost to Alabama last night and have dropped five of their last seven, but at one point of the season were 15-1.
Freshman point guard Chris Warren leads the team in minutes played (30.7), points (15.6), assists (5.0) and is second in steals (1.2).
He visited State in October (’06) and was oh, so close to signing.
Gonzalez and Johnson’s combined box score tonight …
Thirty-eight minutes, 0-1 from the floor, 0 points, 1 rebound, 2 assists, 2 steals and 2 turnovers.
Nice.
And the hits just keep on comin’.
