Bobby Knight Suddenly Resigns from Texas Tech
LUBBOCK, Texas — A spokesman for Texas Tech athletic director Gerald Myers says men’s basketball coach Bob Knight has resigned, effective immediately.

I hope he didn’t hit anyone this time around.
Kind of a lame way to go out. Must be he has his reasons, but to get the big win total and then quit halfway through the year is weak. Redfred, defend your hero. And be glad he didn’t get the chance to pull this on us.

I guess it’s just Knightie, Knight time now.
No matter what anyone says, and admitting that he was, and still is, an ass with a captital A, he was a winner and his player/student graduation rate ranks among the highest ever in the business.
I sure wouldn’t want to date his daughter or anything but I’m glad he was around as a college BB coach in my day. He defiKnitely made it interesting and I loved the fact that he never gave one inch to the press.
There’s probably more to this story left to come. There’s always a reason for a sudden decision like this.
All joking aside, I hope it’s not his health or anything bad like that. Maybe he’s just walking away, but doing it on his own terms, just like he always has.
ESPN story — sounds like he was planning to turn the team over to his son, but then decided it’d be better to go ahead and get started.
Sounds like he made the right decision to give his son a head start on next year, especially if it didn’t hurt any recruiting which it apparently did not. Good for him – it’s always best to go on your own terms at the top of your game.
Guessing he was afraid the uni would screw his son, so he made sure his son got a fighting chance.
From what commentary I heard on ESPN, Digger basically stated he felt Knight was burned out from coaching and wasn’t giving the most he could to the team, so he decided to leave.
Knight’s one of the all time great college coaches and one of the most entertaining.
I have always liked Knight.
I had forgotten that he gave his salary back.
My Dad took me to a roast of his here is Raleigh many years ago (why it was here I will never know) but he had the most filthy mouth but was so funny.
IMO basketball is worse off without him
I still remember hearing how PR said that he wanted to meet Coach Knight the week leading up to the Texas Tech game in Lubbock and when Knight heard about it, made a point of meeting PR when the team got there. That made him a pretty cool guy in my eyes.
Knight’s a tragic figure. A eulogist for Knight could spend the better part of a day listing his accomplishments and his good qualities without using a single adverb. You don’t have to fluff anything up or embellish his story at all.
But he’s got that critical flaw…and it just tears everything else down. You could be Jay Mariotti and spend an entire show ripping the guy and never embellish either.
Nepotist much?
He’s a great coach and an iconic figure. I thoroughly enjoyed watching him blow his stack over the years.

Say what you want about Knight, but he’s one of the greats. He might have a foul mouth (Which I find hilarious), but College Basketball wouldn’t be the same without him. That halftime speech is hilarious.
