This was just too awesome not to memorialize here.

Talk about “Hands of Steel”! Glad you posted that. It was difficult to see how he really ripped the ball away with one hand
the other night.
Awesome. That was in the second half, right? When I look at the score, and then I remember the outcome of this game, I just can’t believe it.
they beat our ass to death right after that play.
Do yourself a favor and search Courtney Fells in youtube. The kid is a freak of nature.
After that play I knew for sure we were gonna win that game.
damn was I wrong.
It looked like he had glue on his hand.
I like comment from the announcer on the replay: “He didn’t realize at first that he had it” Really? He grabbed for the ball and got it but didn’t realize he had it?
^ I thought that was a pretty dumb comment too. It’s not like he had duct tape on his hands.
one of the greatest plays I’ve ever seen on a basketball court. Simply awesome.
packpigskinfan I’m with you.
After that play I thought no way do we lose this game. I guess our guys thought the same thing and played like it.
Play of the year….
It’s amazing how a guy that talented can just disappear.
the one thing Fells did during the game huh?
But oh man, what a play.
I jumped from my seat – didn’t even see the dunk initially cause I was so pumped about the play. Like everyone else I thought foreshadowed a win for us.
but it was not to be.
part of the reason this hurt so bad.
Don’t overlook that the outlet pass was to Javi, who quickly fed Grant. Nice, instinctive play on his part.
Also easy to forget that Grant’s the only senior on this team. Hell, Costner’s a sophmore.
That will rank right up there with the Damon Thornton dunk over Maryland’s Martesich (sp?). That was probably the nastiest play I ever saw in person, except for a couple Vince Carter put on us, and he was fun to watch play even if he was wearing baby blue.
I said at the time that it was the best sequence I’ve ever seen by an NC State team. Not the most meaningful, but the best defensive play-turned-dunk.
Duke’s very next play (I think) was a big three that completely erased the momentum generated by the posession shown in the clip above. It was such a buzzkill. But that’s what good teams do. They always respond to big plays by going back down the floor and making a big play of their own. I’ll say a NC State team has arrived when I see them respond to a big play like Duke did.
It was hard to tell who made that play when it first happened on TV. I thought that it had to be one of JJ’s paws grabbing the ball away like that, but saw in the replay that it was Fells’ instead. Helluva play!!! That’s exactly why Fells should go inside on both offense and defense, and mix it up more than he has ever seemed willing to do.
Did that ball come off the defender or did Fells actually defy the laws of physics? I tried to look closely but I couldn’t tell, we need a superslowmo to figure this out.
That play made up for the badly missed dunk earlier in the game. If they could have just ended the game there, that would have been great. This is the second of two State games they have shown over here so far this year. The first one was the Michigan St. game. I guess media bias exists 5,000 miles away too
From what I’ve heard, Sid continues to challenge Fells to ‘take over the game.’ Its clear he has the athletic gifts to do so. His inconsistencies are tough to figure out
Awesome demonstration of some bizarre physical talent.
However, Fells performance for the rest of the game had to be only a tad worse than expected. He’s gifted but prefers to let the game come to him. He does not assert himself, ever. Against Duke, the inevitable is a swarming half-court D that forces your ball-handlers away from the paint. That destroys set plays and forces your guys to break their guys down. If “your guy” is Gavin Grant, Tywan Lawson or Sean Singletary, bully for you, but our key ball-handlers are mostly not there yet (Javi) or unlikely to get there (MJ). As a result, the game never comes to those who wait (Fells). Courtney is far better suited to play well against the rest of the ACC but Duke is a bad match-up for him/us.
Haze, nice post! I’ve tried to say similar but it never came out that well.
