For some backgroun on this headline, you should probably check out the comments in this entry .
Today, CBS Sportsline is discussing the West Virginia job with a Dennis Dodd vs Greg Doyel model.
Look who’s name popped up two days after we threw it out.
Damn silly speculation

Just picked up another commitment. Pack lands Burgess per Pack Pride.
TOB is piling up big bodies, and some big athletes (TE,LB) adding depth to the class with Jucos. Looking steady, just a need a couple more quality line prospects and a kicker.
Fantastic. Great running backs need great blockers.
It’s a shame that Amato was unable to bring in a line to match Baker, Brown and Eugene. Our football fortunes would have been considerably different the last few years had he done so.
Hard to believe he couldn’t recruit a lot of top notch linebackers either.
Looks like the o line will be strong in the coming years. The man has a formula that works - so if the fans will be patient……..
Amato apparently only recruited positions he thought were “fun” to recruit. Either that or certain position coaches were way better at recruiting than others (but don’t they recruit different regions rather than different positions?. I don’t know the inner workings well enough to say. But something strange was definitely up to have such wildly different results between positions.
ESPN confirms 25 FSU players suspended from he Bowl game and most likely the first 3 games of next year’s season. Wow — do we play FSU in the first 3 weeks?
If memory serves, Bo, the ACC FB schedule is released 1/8. I could be wrong about that, so caveat emptor.
I can’t believe you made me click on a link from @#*!!%
I tried reading that column, but I’m sorry…I don’t speak “crazy” so I couldn’t tell what it said.
I took it down to a homeless guy who works near my building and he said it said that WVU was a better job with a better shot at winning the national title than Michigan. And in between drooling and swatting at invisible flies, he said, “Damn, that dude’s f-ing NUTS.”
WAY off topic, but….watching the tube….Fayetteville actually and SERIOUSLY has a hockey team….called the FireAntz??? WTF???
In addition….I can’t believe I was made to click on the same link!
Damnedable curiosity!
Hey the Fireantz won the championship last year.
Honestly, I hope Grobe doesn’t leave. The ACC is better with him.
Also, anyone paying attention can see that SFN knows their coaching searches.
BTW, SFN’s rss feed is unnamed. It was removed after the server upgrade.
For shame. 2 gigantic thumbs down (add my name to the list) for blindly linking to ****tard. I had sworn never to raise his hitcount or CBS sportslines for that matter, and didn’t read the comments before clicking.
A little constructive criticism: I really can’t believe you actually tried to legitimize your original speculation with D***l’s oh so expert opinion. At the time your post was original and pretty interesting - far from silly speculation. Now that you’ve tried to pump up your story by aligning yourself with that dude I won’t name, well, its just plain sad. You (and SFN) are way better than that. For shame #2.
Hey SFN, why was my comment from the thread “NC State 74 SC State 49″ that was waiting moderation since December 15th get removed in its entirety in the last day? I spent a lot of time gathering statistics showing what Werner (at Florida), Larry Davis (Seton Hall), and Chris Wright (Georgetown) have done this year in comparison to Fells, Degand, and Javy. What’s up?
I don’t know why your comment was removed. But if I was the author of that thread, then it would have been removed for being off-topic and absolutely worthless to any meaningful discussion about State’s BB season.
that might be a lot to say about a thread comment you didn’t see or rather get a chance to read in its entirety. my summary doesn’t give it justice.
and for that matter folks weren’t given the opportunity to form an opinion on it. i didn’t know you guys are now into censoring comments, and I find it strange that it is starting now.
Regarding the FSU suspensions for the first 3 games of next year - I will surprised if a certain team doesn’t get them during that span.
JeremyH,
you must understand that it’s very important to stay on topic. For example, take 10 out of 20 comments on this thread that range from being about a new recruit, Amato’s lack of recruiting O-linemen, FSU’s suspending of players, and a hockey team in Fayetteville which all directly relate to the topic of names popping up in coaching searches. BTW, thankfully I read Doyel’s name before clicking on the above links and did not read his drivel.
“It’s not quite the job that Michigan or its fans think it is — the best job in the Big Ten is and forever will be the one at Ohio State — but it’s among the top 10 or 15 jobs in college football.”
Am I the only one that sees this as ass-backwards? Michigan leads the series 57-41-6, has 42 Big 10 titles to OSU’s 32, and 11 Nat’l titles to OSU’s 5. Both have tradition and facilities, Michigan just has more. I guess just another example of Doyel’s shortsighted perspective.
I would be interested in seeing JeremyH’s entry. And for the record, I’ve seen a whole lot of posts go up about things that are worthless about NC State Basketball this season….
It took me a few minutes to track down JeremyH’s comment that was deleted, but I finally did. Instead of a moderator deleting it for whatever reasons (which seems to be the conventional wisdom) it was marked as spam and auto-deleted by the Wordpress plug-in that stops that sort of stuff.
Why it decided that Jeremy’s entry was an unwelcome ad for pencil lead or anatomy lessons is beyond me.
Michigan is THE winningest football program in the country. The notion that the Michigan job isn’t as good as the WVU job is a perversion of logic so great that I can’t possibly wrap my brain around it. It’s like the curvature of the earth, I’d have to get up to about 50,000 feet just to see it.
Arguably, NO ONE has more tradition than the Wolverines. There are programs that have *as much* as Michigan, but basically, no one has more. We’re talking a century of football greatness. We’re talking more wins, as many titles, as many great players, as many legends, as many important games as any school ever.
Michigan’s current team probably eight future first round draft picks in the NFL. They’ve got a recruiting class already in place that all but about five teams in the nation would kill to have (and almost all of the kids are still coming). They’ve got plenty of returning talent.
It’s got great academics, a great conference and Ann Arbor is always on one of those “Top Places to Live” lists.
Now…if you wanted to say the USC job was better than the Michigan job, okay, you can make that argument. But West f-ing Virginia?? Are you KIDDING?
It’s like trying to ask with a straight face why someone would want to go to Hawaii for vacation when they could always go to Wilmington, Delaware.
SFN: thank you for looking into it.
I heard on the radio today that some big time WV boosters are incensed at their AD and school officials for not delivering on earlier promises made to Rodriguez. There are rumors floating around that due to these unfulfilled promises, Rodriguez may even be able to avoid paying out the buyout clause.
If these rumors are true, I find it very doubtful that Grobe will leave WF for WV. He evidently likes working for Wellman. (By the way, I hate soccer and think it should be banned for males in this country, but Wake won the NCAA championship in soccer. I’m sure Tarantini will do the same once we get those new facilities built.)
The beautiful game wears your scorn like a badge of honor.
Good stuff Giac.
