On a night that Tommy Bowden breathes a sigh of relief and as Ted Roof waits to hear from Duke, we thought that we would open a quick entry for discussion and sharing of links and rumors for those folks out there interested in the coaching carousel.

As I scan articles on the internet, tt never ceases to amaze me how inter-twined so many of these jobs are. For example, check out this article about Bill Callahan and the Nebraska situation
On the day that Callahan coached his last game, Arkansas defeated No. 1 LSU, 50-48, in triple overtime. Before Pederson hired Callahan, he tried to hire Razorbacks coach Houston Nutt and nearly succeeded. In the end, Nutt couldn’t leave his home state.
Four years later, Pederson is out of a job. Nutt is on his way out of Fayetteville. The point is not that Nebraska should have hired Nutt or that Osborne will. But the next Nebraska coach will be closer on the coaching spectrum to Osborne than to Callahan.
Dennis Franchione stepped aside at Texas A&M for an undisclosed buyout. This article has deep detail about Coach Fran. Speculation for weeks has strong mutual interest existing between Auburn coach Tommy Tuberville and Texas A&M according to the Houston Chronicle.The Tigers’ nine-year head coach served as the Aggies’ defensive coordinator in 1994 and has the defensive pedigree the school longs for.
Tuberville, however, is far from the lone candidate whose name has circulated for weeks as Franchione’s departure became more imminent. Current South Carolina and former Florida coach Steve Spurrier’s name has come up, along with Boise State’s second-year coach Chris Petersen, Cal coach Jeff Tedford, West Virginia coach Rich Rodriguez, North Carolina coach Butch Davis and Texans assistant Mike Sherman.
You may remember that SFN shared with you last year that the Texans’ Mike Sherman worked very hard behind the scenes to position himself for the NC State job before we hired Tom O’Brien.
