For Boston College’s sake…I sure hope that the Eagles are competing for National Championships while dominating the Wolfpack in years 2009, 2010 and 2011. If not, they are going to have a hard time explaining how their program would be lower than it is today and how State’s would be higher.

I’m just sayin’….

    I hope that they lose “the big game” again this year and get the Tire Bowl. Who’re they gonna blame *this* year??

    While we haven’t heard this, exactly from TOB, it sure hit home – and it comes from Ole Miss –

    “That was the essence of Ed Orgeron’s statement when he said the Rebels “have some deficiencies that can only be solved by recruiting” and that the Rebels “do not have SEC players at some positions.”
    Orgeron has never been slow to move players around to try and fix problems. Maybe it’s time to do that now.”

    . . . and a note to BC fans, if you do well then support the team, buy the tickets, donate the money, upgrade the facilities, and travel to the games. If you are not in a BCS you still need to step up to the plate each year. Talk is always cheap, so don’t think Jags won’t be pursued by big schools if he has success at BC.

    When someone says or implies this in their first year, it’s understandable. When someone says it in their 3rd year or so (I don’t remember how many years he’s been at Ole Miss) then you have to wonder what the heck they were doing for the first few years.

    BC won’t let go of TOB almost as bad as we won’t let go of Herb.

    (I’m actually still trying to find a way to blame this football season, as well as all of the stadium entry issues, on him).

    Hmmm, let’s see…

    Jags inherits a team that won TEN games last year, and returns a Heisman candidate Quarterback.

    TOB inherits a team that went 3-9 last season and ended the year on a seven game losing streak, with no Quarterback on the roster than can separate himself from the pack.

    Yeah, Its all Coaching. I can clearly see that.

    Let’s see what they do next season without Ryan at the helm. They may surprise us – Logan has developed very good QB’s in his past and they are fortunate to have him (he must have known that NFL Europe was folding).

    The guy writing for that blog points out two players(fullback and right tackle) on their entire two deep chart that were recruited by Jags. So 42 of 44 players on the two deep chart were recruited by TOB. Jags may be doing a good job with the team, but they would have a pre-season favorite with TOB as the coach. They were a pre-season favorite in the Atlantic Division because of the roster and because of what they have accomplished in recent years.

    This guy is talking way too soon. They really have only faced one really tough test – GT on the road, so they would likely be 5-0 with TOB.

    BC fans are the least reasonable people I have ever come across on the internet.

    BC Fans better hope that Jags knows how to develope Quarterbacks.

    They didn’t have any QB commits greater than 2 stars in the 06 and 07 class or yet in the 08 class. I feel pretty confident we could tell them what’s coming up in the next 2-3 years if they don’t get a better QB than they have now to replace Matty.

    I’m just sayin’. . . .

    “While the State basketball team’s GSR sank from 64 to 40 percent since last year’s report that looked at 1996-99, baseball improved four percent, women’s basketball improved from 79 to 83 percent, and football went from 57 to 60 percent.

    Fowler said the Wolfpack men’s basketball team GSR took a hit in this report because it includes the year 2000. That year, four basketball players came to State. Two didn’t graduate and two who transferred were not in good academic standing. That means zero percent graduated.

    One bad year can greatly impact four year’s worth of scores.

    BC is overated. I cannot think of a more undeserving team to be ranked 6 in the country. There toughest game so far has been at an unranked two loss GT team. There next toughest game was an unranked 2 loss Wake Forest. They barely beat UMass by 10 points. They will probably win there next two games and be 7-0 headed into the notre dame game. From there they will be lucky to lose only 4 out of 6 (vt, clemson, maryland, miami). This will be good enough to get them to Boise or Charlotte cause no real bowl will want their crappy fans who dont travel.

    We’ll see how BC handles the athletic teams left on their schedule (Florida State, Clemson, and maybe VT). Athletically superior teams have tripped them up in the past, and I certainly won’t be shocked if history repeats itself.

    BC has exactly ONE impressive win (at Georgia Tech, which is currently unranked 29th in Sagarin). FWIW, BC is only 15th in the more objective, less “inertia-based” Sagarin list.

    Plus, winning with another coach’s team is nice, but not determinative of what kind of coach you have. They will know more after “Jags'” 3rd and 4th years.

    While I do not agree with the premise of Eagle’s article (or rant may be a better term), I do agree that coaching styles can affect one or two games in your first year.

    For instance…we came out very flat in the first half of UCF. If we had shown at all in the first 30 minutes…we may have won that game and instead of being 1-4 we are 2-3 and things aint quite so crappy.

    Another for instance…So far our defense has been beyond horrible. We have the worst run D I have ever seen in Raleigh. I find it very difficult to believe that guys that looked fast and reasonably strong a year ago lost 5 steps and weakened to the point of getting pushed around by Wofford! Yea…there are a few new starters…but most of these guys that are getting torched this year played a lot of downs a year ago for a pretty good defense. If that doesnt improve our defense will lose us a couple of the winnable games at the end of the schedule.

    re BC: being the most over ranked team – how about Kentucky? They are good, but #8? I got questions about USoCar too.

    Why are BC folks bad mouthing us? I know it hurts when you get dumped, but its hardly our fault! And they are only making unnecessary enemies. If they are our BCS team, I won’t to be able to root for them. That is becoming increasingly unlikely.

    re Ole Miss: Coach O did not walk into a cupboard bear situation at all – Cutcliff was fired because 7 or 8 wins weren’t enough. Folks thought we should go up another level. So its a damn good question why he’s having to tell folks this three years in. I’ve always felt Cutcliff was hired because he coached Payton, and Archie was willing for Eli to go to Mississippi, but really wanted Cutcliff to be his coach, so we hired him.

    Cry me a freaking river…

    The players listed are good players, but let’s not get carried away here since EACH one of those players listed were positions BC had depth and experience thanks to solid recruiting & coaching by TOB.

    Brian Toal – LB – He was battling an injury since last spring so plenty of time for BC to evaluate his replacement. A quick look at the depth chart and you see So and R-Fr as the replacements, but keep in mind that those guys beat out Junior Robert Francois who started 7 games & netted the 4th most tackles last season for BC.

    B.J. Raji – DT – The tone of the blurb in the blog makes it sound like Raji was out due to injury, but he is actually academically ineligible. In most cases, the coaching staff has a pretty good take if someone is or is not making the grades so I doubt this was a complete shock. They replaced the senior with a redshirt junior who played in 13 games last year and he is playing beside another redshirt junior who played and started in 11 games last year.

    Jeff Smith – RB/KR – Smith is one of the better kick returners in the country…he ranked 8th in country (1st in ACC) in return yards last year with 23 returns for 645 yards (28 yards/return) so an impact player. Let’s not feel too bad for them though since the replacement is Callendar (SR RB) who has 10 returns for 221 yards (22 yards/return) for his career. BTW…Jeff Smith was not used at all really at RB since they have two SR RBs with experience.

    i dont think kentucky is a top 10 team either, but i think they would beat bc. south florida has victories over #5 W fuckin V, and at auburn. they should be the #6, not bc

    Seems like we’re obsessed with BC’s obsession with TOB. Who cares what they think. I hope they win out and represent the ACC in a BCS bowl. Nobody else in the ACC seems to be stepping up. As somenoe said, TOB left the cupboard pretty well stocked up there, so I would expect that they would be doing well. TOB, on the other hand, inherited a half-empty cupboard. After 3 years or so, we can evaluate who got the better end of the coaching changes. Then we can all start the nah nah na nah nah’s.
