Clemson Pre-Game (and Live Blogging Likely to Follow)

Well, thanks to the virus making it’s way through my children, I will be watching from home tomorrow, and thus likely to live blog. Lucky you, huh? Speaking of which, I’m looking to sell 2 pairs of tickets in Section 27 (each with a parking pass) – leave an e-mail in the comments if interested!

Figuring out this matchup is not rocket science – Clemson is a great running team, and we have had alot of trouble stopping the run in recent memory. One only has to think back to the trap/off-tackle play UCF ran on their first offensive play, which went 80 yards for a TD. Un-fucking-touched! You almost have to try to defend the run that poorly. And Clemson’s backs are just a tad bit faster than those of the Golden Knights. Yes, we did slow down the rushing attack of Wofford. But come on, it’s Wofford, for heaven’s sake. Naturally, I’ll feel alot better if I see Demario Pressley in the starting lineup.

If we slow down the Tigger rushing attack, and Beck makes some plays in the passsing game, we’ll have a shot. If they run wild, we have no shot of keeping up with them in a shootout. No chance at all. My crystal ball says 34-24 Clemson, and I think that’s pretty optimistic.

Side rant – why the hell does ESPN think we need a Notre Dame pow-wow with Bob Davie and Lou Holtz? There’s an actual game going on, and a fairly entertaining one. Fat boy’s Irish are 0-3, and yet to score an offensive TD. I think it’s safe to ignore them, except for chuckling when you see their scores crawl across the ticker. It would be awesome if Duke beat them. Also, Lou Holtz was so entertaining with the press as a coach. Who would have imagined he’d be such an insufferable, preachy, humorless bore as a commentator?

this is completely off-topic, however if anyone uses Firefox there is a really cool NC State skin available at their themes website:
    https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/5429

There are only 3 college skins available–others being LSU, and you guessed it, UNC–and it’s really nice. . .

Anyway, back to the business at hand. . .

Sorry to hear about your kids.

I’ve been exiled to somewhere in northern Ontario….where they are confused about the importance of college football. I’ve changed hotels to one with satellite, so at least I’ll see some games this weekend.

I’m going to try and find an on-line radio broadcast and I’ll try and chime in on the on-line blogging.

How do you apply the skin after downloading?

The 80 yarder UCF pulled on us still lingers, but we were out of position and that accounted for that. It’s the yards per attempt teams are getting when we are lined up right that bother me. I wasn’t a huge Lowery fan, but now that he’s gone I really see the huge advantage of having a semi competent MLB. In my mind Martin needs to step up and play really big for us to have any shot slowing down teams. If he can’t be a bigger factor than maybe it’s time to see more of Michels.

The QB for Clemson ought to have a career day, I mena it is set up so perfect for him. He is accurate, smart, and has great TB’s behind him to keep defenses’ honest. If we have any shot at keeping the score resonable I think it’s getting an early TO (either pass rush fumble, tip pass, ect) early. He has had great success in allowing no TO’s so far, so let’s hope something early could get him out of rythm.

On offense, yeah I agree it’s probably on Beck’s arm’s and leg’s again. But we know what that can lead to, so if he can’t muster out incredible plays so be it. Let’s eat it and punt some to try and make it about field position. I’m just going to ignore the OL (kinda like Chuck) until they do somethig, anything acceptible on a consitent basis. It’s reached the “if you don’t have anything nice to say….” stage I’m sorry to say.

Going to the game, my first of the season. Have fun with Live Bog and hope the fam feels better quickly. Go Pack!

“How do you apply the skin after downloading?”

Click on “Tools”, click on “Add Ons”, go over to “Themes” and you should see the NCSU Wolfpack 1.01 thingie. Click on it and choose “Use Theme” and then restart Mozilla.

So who all is “out” for tomorrows game?

I did find this on gopack.com

Injury Update: There’s good news for the NC State defense this week. After missing back-to-back games with a knee injury, starting defensive tackle DeMario Pressley is listed as probable for the Clemson contest. The news couldn’t come at a better time since another tackle, John Bedics, will be out this week with an ankle sprain.

I live in Russia (as if you couldn’t tell) and we have a cable channel that shows North American sports. They usually show 1 or 2 college football games a week. This week they are showing a live noon game which means it will be on at 8pm here and I’ll actually get to watch it live. They had yet to announce the teams as of a few days ago and I was really hoping beyond hope that they’d show the State/Clemson game b/c they do show Lincoln Financial games. In an insult of all insults–a slap in the face–the game that will be showing here is North Carolina v. South Florida. 5,000 miles away and I can’t escape the baby blue machine. Even Joe Forte is playing for our city’s pro team. At least I can keep up with the State game online without having to stay up until 2am like last week. Oh well. Go Pack!

I’m still worried about our punting. Pierson has definitely done better that Franklin but I think his last three punts against Wofford went unnoticed because of the score of the game. In these last three, Wofford decided to pressure the punter for the first time in the game and he got off punts of 33, 28 & 24 yards. None of these punts went inside of Wofford’s 25 yard line. I fully expect Clemson to put pressure on Pierson.

By the way, Steven Hauschka has been fantastic with the kicking.

I think the key is getting off to a good start..perhaps another opeing game drive for a score… the crowd will be fired up.
Without much evidence, i suspect this team plays better with a lead.

I know that this is not a ticket exchange, but my wife got called out of town last minute and I have an extra ticket. I would rather share it with someone who is as passionate about Wolfpack football as I am then sell it to a stranger so if anyone here is local to Raleigh and doe not have a ticket but would like to go, post back here in the next 20 minutes and let me know. we can figure it out from there.

  13. VaWolf82 09/22/2007 at 10:44 AM #

The key to the game is for the State defense to do something that they haven’t done so far this year…..stop the run. If State can’t do that, then everything else is likely meaningless.

  14. wufpaxno1 09/22/2007 at 10:45 AM #

Well guys, I can’t wait any longer, enjoy the game and I will look forward to reading everyone’s analysis after the game. Go Pack!

I’d add that managing to at least break even (if not outright win) the turnover battle is crucial. That would factor into getting the necessary points out of the offense and would play into VaWolf’s (among others) point that stopping the run is important.

Coughing up the ball and sending a tired ‘d’ back on the field is not a good recipe against a good running team.

[…] OK, I had a bad feeling last week – and the actual game met those low expectations. Today, I perhaps feel a little bit worse, as the Pack squares off against an even better offense, and a highly pissed opponent. Let’s look at ESPN.com’s preview, shall we? […]
