Dave Glenn – McCauley 2nd Team All-ACC

Well, at least based on the ACC season to-date. Here’s your link. I have trouble arguing against any of his selections, except that I would probably list VT’s Gordon higher. His first-team, COY, and POY selections are all exactly right. Many of you will likely be agitated about Glenn listing Costner 2nd to Wright for ROY honors, but I happen to agree. Wright doesn’t have the same numbers b/c he’s part of a deep and insanely talented playing rotation – but when he’s in, he’s the most physically dominant player on the floor.

We’ve taken the time to specifically praise McCauley before, and it’s really gratifying to see a non-partisan observer put McCauley on the 2nd team. Hell, I was going to be content for 3rd team – and expecting to be disappointed. Big Ben has earned some accolodates, and thanks to DG for dishing them out.

I agree, the only glaring omission is Gordon, who I think should be above Rice on the 2nd team. The other changes I would make would be Crittenton as a first-team all-rookie ahead of Ellington (I would also put Scheyer ahead of Ellington, both those guys have played better and had a larger impact), and Vasquez would’ve been on the 2nd team ahead of either Spears or Smith.

I think it’s been a great first half of the ACC season. We’ve had truckloads of close, dramatic games so far, and that’s without any Duke-Maryland or UNC-Duke matchups, which usually produce some great games. It’s really been a showcase of just how deep the ACC is. There are still 9 teams that have a legit shot at the tourney, and the standings keep getting shaken up. Just a few weeks ago, ESPN.com didn’t even have Virginia listed as “work to be done” to get into the tourney in their “Drive to 65” article. Now the Cavs would probably be a 6-7 seed if they picked today. It’s shaping up to be a great end of the year, it’ll be great to see who makes it in and who doesn’t.

Off subject – saw a great sign in the crowd at the end of the Duke – UVA last night:

“SportsCenter is Next, Unless Duke Needs More Time”

McBob is so overrated. I can’t think of anyone to take his spot but imo he’s not that great. No back to the basket game, get’s most of his points of assists in transition… limited potential in my opinion.

We have a player on our baseball team who has the same skills but is an inch taller and a helluva pitcher.

I would have to put Reynolds on the first team, and I think by the time the season is over, he will be on the first team.

I also would move McBob down the list. He wasn’t even that great last year – everything was/still is based on “potential”. He’s no Shelden Williams.

I also agree the games of recent have sure picked up in intensity and I look forward to the second half of the season.

I was really down on McRoberts too before the year, but after having watched him this year, I’ve been swayed a bit. He’s a good defensive player and a good rebounder, but he’s got a unique skill set for a 6-10 guy. He’s a great passing big man and he handles the ball well. He’s not going to be a franchise player at the next level, but he can be a Boris Diaw type, and without him Duke would be terrible this year. I can’t really argue with him as a second-teamer, especially if McCauley is going to be a second-teamer.

McRoberts has improved at the same rate McCauley has.
