Julius Mays Update: 36 Points in Win

Julius Mays dominated the first half, but needed some help from Jay Edwards to deliver a victory for the Marion boys’ basketball team.

Mays scored 24 of his points in the first half of Marion’s home opener, matching the output of Warren Central’s entire team. Mays scored 15 points in the second quarter.

We talked more about Mays when he committed to State. Since Mays committed to State we have been told that recruiting guru Bob Gibbons has commented that he thinks Mays can be a Top 25 talent. We haven’t heard/seen the comments directly from Gibbons but just wanted to pass along.

Good for him. And I liked his coments about wanting to prove something to the kid Ohio St just signed! That shows the fire that Lowe likes to see.

It’s going to be fun to watch guys that Sid has already gotten verbals from climb the charts over the next year. Mays might have been something of an unknown when he first committed, but he won’t be for long.

I notice on Pack Pride they have a headline about NC State pursuing Jai Lucas (Bellaire, Texas). That would really put our 2007 class over the top. Without him I saw one listing that had us No. 11 in the nation. With him we’d rocket up near the top 5. There seem to be a lot of schools chasing him, and you think for a second, oh, we don’t have a chance. Then you think, hell, yeah, we do. This is Sidney Lowe we’re talking about. If he really wants him, I have a good feeling about how this will turn out.

Back before the signing period most everyone thought Jai was either going to Maryland or one of the Oklahoma schools. Nobody had us on Jai’s list and then just recently Scout added us to the list and published the article that you mentioned on Pack Pride. His Daddy played against Monte in college and his and Sidney’s paths have crossed too. If I had a son with NBA PG potential I know who I would want to coach him.

Possiblility of Lucas in ’07? That would complete the sweepstakes indeed. Kep up on the update’s regarding Mays, and others if possible. It’s great to get a storyline about these players to hopefully add on to one day in WolfPack red. What kind of start by Sidney Lowe. All the clueless comments about college degree requirements and NBA W vs. L’s, throw them out the window.

Mays’s Marion High team played again Saturday night against Lawrence North, one of the top teams in the state of Indiana. Lawrence North had a 48-game winning streak coming in, so they were supposed to win. Mays scored 28, but Marion lost in double-OT.
