now I know its gonna be a tough season… but COME ON!!!!

    this is bullshit.

What difference does it make where we are picked. I actually like it. Gives Sidney the chance to train and develop his team without the onus of expectations.

We will probalbly get more publicity from the main stream media as the “should finish last” team then we would as third or fourth wheel behind UNX & Dook types. Its all relevant, its the foundation that Sid starts creating that counts and nothing any preseason pollsters can do to remedy the material he uses to lay down the footing for this program. Go Pack!

Anyone, how much worse of a situation did Sendek leave vs. the situation Les left us, despite the shackles for which the latter operated in.

  5. Wulfpack 10/22/2006 at 6:01 PM #

^Not a very fair comparison, IMHO.

  6. Texpack 10/22/2006 at 6:03 PM #

Sidney will use this as bulletin board material. Other than that, it means nothing.

  7. packpigskinfan23 10/22/2006 at 6:11 PM #

^other than that… its still bullshit.

but 4ever, you are right… it brings less expectations, and more excitment through out the season.

Please don’t whine about this ranking. Considering what we’ve lost, we deserve to be preseason ranked in the basement. I think the sacrifice will ultimately be well worth it.

    This is GREAT actually…

Lowe is undermanned and the future will be helped / built in these early years by Lowe beating expectations…So, the LOWER the press sets the expectations the better for Lowe & Co and his recruiting efforts in 2008 and beyond…

Hopefully, the guys will use this as bulletin board material, the team will win some games no one—apparently—thinks we should, and Lowe can go out on the recruiting trail and say,”Look, everyone thought we were the worst, but look what we did…” (i.e. I am a great coach…)

Then, next year, we need to improve for sure and—hopefully—get back to the middle of the pack (i.e. basically where Herb had us in year 10 or slightly below, but not bad for a year 2)…

    Then, we keep chugging along…

Of course, Lowe & Co have to actually BEAT these low expectations to get it all started and moving in the right direction…

We will be pretty tired at the end of games and lose a lot of those games as a result, but I will be at all of them and am weirdly more excited about watching the Pack than I have been in years…

No where to go but up…..

Sidney needs to hold on, knock off some of the high fliers and build for the future. He will take us back to where we belong.

    GaWolf… not whining… just sayin…

Good. Tell all those Bubas to get ready

Happiest person today is Sendek. Were’s all the great recruits the media said he had been loading the program with?? Truth is Sendek was not loading the program, programs such as Va. Tech, Clemson, and Miami for example should in no year have better talent than us. Funny how the media reported Brackman was a recent decision and Simmons really weighed everything until the last minute. Like Astur said he knew at the end of last year Simmons and Brackman would not be back. I think we look much like a Pete Gillian exit here. We thin and hopefully we will have some success like Va. has had post Gillain. But with little in the middle and with many half court teams in the ACC we will pay the price. But I am looking forward to it, crowd can get behind these kids and root for a program that might actually get a dunk or two on a fast break in a game. I was surprised to see BC so high, didn’t the media realize they got like no starters back. And I personally think Miami will be worst team in league. I expected Wake to be higher. Good thing is I think ACC is not very strong this year and it will be a good year to be rebuilding. WE could climb pretty high in the standings with some hard work and some lucky bounces.

Why would anyone think we’d be any better – no true center or PG with D1 experience, hardly any experienced depth, little overall experience (thanks to Sendek not playing freshmen significantly.) BUT I’m not a bit concerned because I do believe that the ‘Pack will have a very steep rise for the next couple of years under Sid based on how I think he and that GREAT staff can recruit and coach.

  16. old13 10/22/2006 at 8:18 PM #

BTW there IS talent there – just not enough bodies and all positions aren’t filled.

  17. vtpackfan 10/22/2006 at 8:31 PM #

An interesting note could be what the Tar Hole were ranked by this same media guide before last year after they lost 6 of 7 top players, over 75% of their offense. Was it bottom of the barrel, pobably not.

  18. Woof Wolf 10/22/2006 at 9:25 PM #

The ‘holes incoming class was just a tad better than ours.

But I’ve no problem with the ranking. From the outside looking in, I might say the same. We may start in last place in most peoples’ minds, but I think we may be better than that at the end.

The first real test should come starting on Nov, 27. We play Michigan at home followed by road games at UVA and WVU. Win one of those games and it’s going to be a better year than they are predicting. Win two and it could really be a fun year.

No matter what, I too am looking foward to this year more than any in a long time.

IMO this will give everyone a chance to see SL coach this team UP. No overbearing expectations to deal with, and only one way to go from here. Go get ’em coach Lowe!!

  20. BJD95 10/23/2006 at 12:16 AM #

I still think we’ll finish ahead of Miami and Wake.

  21. Jeremy Hyatt 10/23/2006 at 4:20 AM #

I agree this is a good thing. I could say I work better when there are no expectations. Philosophically, I think its good not to have expectations, you will never be let down, and perhaps pleasantly surprised. Do what you do fellows, looking forward to the fresh start.

  22. Lock 10/23/2006 at 5:14 AM #

oh hey wow Sendek trashing time again yes! Still too early to let that one go!

I hate being picked last, but seriously…as cliche’ as it is, where do we go but up? I think we deserve to be picked last, but (believe it or not) I bet we surprise one or two teams.

I’m not feeling any postseason play…but if we can remedy that in the next year or two, I can stomach this year.

I’m dreading this season just as much as I’m looking forward to it. College basketball will always be my favorite time of year. If I can survive the Robinson years, I can survive anything, yeah?

We won’t be there for long, if we are at all, with the staff we now have.

  24. 82grad 10/23/2006 at 7:39 AM #

why wasn’t unc ranked last? roy williams has won a few college bball games, sidney has not.

  25. BoKnowsNCS71 10/23/2006 at 8:14 AM #
