Something Nice for Sunday

After the USM debacle – there are plenty of entries for you to peruse below this one – we thought that we would try to focus on something half-way positive for Sunday.

It is NFL Sunday and one of the only good things in Wolfpack football is the increased presence of NC State players in the big leagues.

Last week saw some great play by one of everyone’s favorite duo – Philip Rivers and Jerricho Cotchery.

* J-Co caught 6 passes for 65 yards — including the first touchdown reception of his career — in Sunday’s 23-16 victory at Tennessee.

* PR went 8 of 11 with a touchdown in his first NFL start that resulted in a white washing of the Oakland Raiders.

This week, Cotchery was featured in a great New York Times piece. (Link)

The Jets’ receiving corps was generally viewed as weak coming into the season, but Coles all along insisted otherwise. He said he has been impressed with Cotchery’s dedication.

“He just goes out and just works and does everything the coaches ask of him,? Coles said.

That Cotchery felt so comfortable in the end zone, despite seeing little of it in the last two seasons, should not be surprising. He caught 21 touchdown passes in three years as a starter at North Carolina State, and finished with 3,119 yards. He broke team records for career receptions (200) and 100-yard receiving games (15), both formerly held by Torry Holt, a five-time Pro Bowl selection. Holt, a frequent visitor to campus, has been Cotchery’s friend and mentor.

The Jets selected Cotchery in the fourth round of the 2004 draft, 108th over all.

Additionally, you can watch all of Philip Rivers’s passes from Monday night in the video below:

I never thought there’d be a time where I was more excited at the thought of NFL Sunday than college Saturday. Still prefer Saturday, but now there’s a growing sense of dread as well…

Still, it’s awesome to see the Pack asserting itself in the next level. Love it.

I have to say, it was a complete joy watching PR playing on Monday night football. It brought back a lot of memories of when there was just no question about the QB spot. Passes were not intercepted, plain and simple, and decisions were not subpar, end of story. I’m looking forward to seeing him air it out more throughout the NFL season.

Agreed…after the disaster last night I was also looking forward to watching the NFL games. But then, while watching the Panthers I get a highlight between the Rams and Cardinals and Torry Holt was taken out by the Burger King guy! To make it worse he feels so bad for hitting Tory he offers him a whopper sandwich to make him feel better! The long national nightmare is in full swing…

I was also looking forward to watching some NFL games to get over the disaster from last night..but while watching the Panthers I get a highlight of a game between the Rams and Cardinals. And what do I see? Tory Holt gets taken out buy the Burger King dude! To make it worse the King feels so bad for wiping out Tory that he offers him a whopper sandwich to make him feel better! The long national nightmare is now completely underway…

I’m not sure if K-Rob is suited up for the Packers yet. He could have some great games with Favre still gunslingin’. Good luck to that and way to go Phillip. It is looking like a stroke of genius going on with Shottheimer and co. And what is this rebuilding stuff Chuck means, from the NFL caliber talent that needs to be replaced? Is he a paid agent to the players association, just “rebuilding” great draft day talent.

    J. Cotchery RECS-6 YRDS-121 TD-1 LONGEST-71

the play he made that brought the Jets back in it was amazing!!

congrads to Rivers on getting a good start at being one of the best QB’s ever!!

Too bad Alvis Whitted is stuck on the crappiest team in the NFL…The Raiders…..Well, at least he IS getting paid.

Let’s lobby the Chargers to trade for K-Rob…maybe being with PR can have a positive impact on his life. God knows being in such close proximity to the “Drunkest city in America” can’t help matters much.

Imagine being able to see PR make touchdown passes to him again…SWEET!

PS—the drunkest city is, of course, home of “the Beast”,Milwaukee.

It looks like the big tuna is about to have an anurism….see that big fat vein on the side of his head?? The Cowboys blow leads like….well, you know. I know..not an NCSU comment, but I can’t resist a little Tuna bashing.

I hope y’all catch the replay of Cotchery’s TD.

If you missed it, it’ll be on any number of highlight reels this week. Damn!

If this season keeps up, Raliegh will be the drunkest city in America.

Cotchery’s play was amazing, and Alvis Whitted will be the #1 on “Jacked up” this week, he got positively blown up.

I imagine Green Bay is depending on it’s small town status to counter K-Rob’s inability to control himself. Milwaukee is only a couple of hours away, but most guys are gonna stay in town, hopefully somebody will be overzealous in their babysitting (cuz that’s what it is) and he will have difficulty finding a way out of town. I know it is overboard, but most Alcoholics NEED friends and family to protect them from themselves.

PR is looking great, Manny made big hit in their win Sunday. Nothing from Mario.

  16. packpigskinfan23 09/18/2006 at 2:18 PM #

I cant believe how the media is picking EVERY play from Mario Williams apart. Did they possible think that he was gonna come in on WEEK 2 and dominate against an AWESOME OL like the Colts have?!?! I mean come on… give the guy a break, and a little time. He will be on Peppers level after a few more years.

It’s a shame Mario will forever unfairly be compared to Bush. You can’t blame him for the Texans’ decision. It’s very early, and two complete different means of comparison. Reggie is off to a nice start. Mario hasn’t done all that much to be fair. I succinctly recall the Texans’ GM saying they took Mario b/c they need to get more pressure on Peyton. Anyone know how he did (I see he didn’t have any sacks, but did he at least apply some pressure?) It’s also a shame that Mario happens to play for perhaps the worst team in the NFL, though Oakland may have something to say about that. Time will tell. He’s a good kid that will work very hard. He’ll be alright.

  18. packpigskinfan23 09/18/2006 at 3:00 PM #

He didnt pressure at all really… of course I only saw the highlights that ESPN showed… and of course picked apart that he DIDN’T pressure. Of course, bush didnt really have a great game either this weekend.

I predicted Manny to do better in the NFL than Mario in the ’04 season. I still stand by that. Manny’s work out times ans #’s were better, Manny had a better year in ’04 then Mario, AND started out the ’05 season better. Mario just blew up at the end of the year, and Manny stayed consistent.

Glad(and proud) to see Manny making a diffrence on my 49ers team!!!!!
