Updated: Amato’s Remarks Go National

Perhaps this will stretch out into a three day story. In any event, we check in at #5 in ESPN.com’s “Bottom 10”. I must admit that the logo (wolf wearing gaudy sunglasses) is pretty clever.

Think that is bad? Try this one on for size. Fresno State head coach Pat Hill ripped into Amato yesterday.

“Why don’t we play a game?” Fresno State’s coach said on Tuesday night. “Just tell him instead of talking — if they want to talk about us, then let’s play. Play us in Boise. See if they want to do that because if they have dates available, say we’re available to play.

“Just to let ’em know so they won’t have any excuses, we won’t have any [non-qualifiers], we don’t have any junior-college transfers and our APR is very, very good.

“So if they want to play against a school that doesn’t have all those advantages like they think we do, they oughta want to play.”

Also Terry Pluto of the Akron Beacon Journal rips Amato saying “N.C. State coach lacks facts“.

Isn’t this alot of attention for a program that hasn’t been nationally relevant since the heartbreaking 2003 loss at Ohio State?

We keep painting the targets on our butts and our chests, why shouldn’t they shoot?

Can’t say I blame them…Amato does sound like a cry baby..if you don’t like their admissions policies-don’t play ’em! Otherwise, he needs to shut up & quit saying he really thinks he has a good team. Just prove it on the field.

This is got to become a classic:

“Are you out of your Vulcan mind?”: Pointing out that the MAC allows non-qualifiers in his news conference was an undeserved low blow by Chuck Amato.

I’ve defended Chuck’s teams and I have said Chuck’s record will not get him fired. THIS gaff could make it happen sooner than later — and rightly so.

  5. Cardiff Giant 09/13/2006 at 7:55 AM #

I was on the fence on the crucial question of, “Is Chuck Amato an egomaniacal idiot?” prior to this latest gaff – and only by giving him considerable benefit of the doubt. Now it’s confirmed – in PR skills and public conduct at least, Chuck is an Epsilon Minus Semi-Moron.

Ok. Chuck got emotional and blew it. I know he’s not supposed to be human and yes he should have said “we were beaten by a better team today” and just taken it like a man. Maybe we should all do that too and move on — rather than dining on the road kill.

For you “fire Chuckers” This will probably make you real proud. http://www.ohio.com/mld/ohio/sports/colleges/university_of_akron/15506458.htm

Amato also has people at Fresno State, Boise State ,and Louisville taking shots at him.

I admire all of you that stay on the ship until it is three feet under the water. You really have a lot of courage. I know Fowler is proud of you. Hang in there and hopefull I will have the opportunity to give you more praise at the end of the season.

Unfortunately our University is being laughed at all over the country. And if you think I am a “Fire Chuckie” Your damm right I am.

These were my sentiments exactly. It’s one thing to be cocky when you have a reason to be, even though it’s probably better not to be. It’s another thing when you remain cocky despite looking like a$$ on the field, and then go stick your foot in your face saying some really dumb stuff.

Fowler needs to put a gag order on this team.

Who would have ever predicted the Fresno State coach ripping NCSU?

  16. JT 09/13/2006 at 10:14 AM #

Amato’s too thin skinned- something a head coach can’t be, especially one whose teams chronically underachieve. He can’t take criticism, and thus he seems unlikely to learn from his own mistakes. I can’t help but think the assistant coaching turnover has been linked to his rather offensive personality.
If your gonna act like he does, you better be good- like Spurrier was at Florida. And on that front, it’s gonna be interseting to see how Spurrier’s personality defects affect his stay at USC. I can’t help but think if you don’t win, you can’t get away with being such an ass. At least for State and USC I hope that’s true.
All that said, I hope Amato pulls it together. I can’t pull against the Pack, so I’m still pulling for Chuck.

    Friggin’ AWEsome!

    I’m just sayin’ …

CA + words = hot and steaming dung heap for NCSU

If anybody is trying to avoid the ‘blue collar” labeliing, you just got set back about twenty years.

  19. redfred2 09/13/2006 at 11:02 AM #

CA’s comments should be important to the admin. But I’ll bet that place is abuzz right now you can’t even get in the door. Their running around with hair on fire trying scratch over a pile of shit that has to do more with IMAGE, than anything they dealt with head on since the coaching change.

I’ll bet, Chuck has actually seen someone face to face today already. That wouldn’t have happened even with a poorly played game and the shabby officiating that is still in question. This is about appearances for god sake, and that is the all important and controlling factor with NCSU administration these days.

  20. Cardiff Giant 09/13/2006 at 11:07 AM #

“I’ll bet Chuck has actually seen someone face to face today already.”

If it’s Fowler, imagine the droll sight of Jethro instructing Amato on public relations techinques. It would be like watching a pig try to teach a cow calligraphy.

  21. redfred2 09/13/2006 at 11:07 AM #

Ted Knight, “Judge Smells”, and Bushwood Country Club come to mind there.

    ATHF!!! meatwad is the man.

the guy who wrote the Herald Sun article just about had it right….

hahahaha!!!!! THAT is priceless my friends.

    “You’re a Coach god sake.”

“Damnit Lee, I’m a man just like you, call me Chuck.”

Let us not wallow in the valley of despair, I say to you today, my friends.

    I have a dream today!

And so even though we face the difficulties of today and tomorrow, I still have a dream. It is a dream deeply rooted in the American footbal dream.

I have a dream that one day this team will rise up and live out the true meaning of its ability.

I have a dream that one day on the green fields North Carolina, the sons of former anti-Chuckers will be able to sit down together at the table of brotherhood with the pro-Chuckers.

I have a dream that one day, down in North Carolina State all alumni will be able to join hands as sisters and brothers.

    I have a dream today!
