Fan clamor to know who will be next N.C. State coach

By Dan Wiederer

As word of Herb Sendek’s departure from N.C. State spread to the public last weekend, many fans had no idea what to make of the development. Even the most critical of Wolfpack backers, those who had skewered Sendek’s milquetoast personality and tedious offense, had trouble believing the news.Especially because it broke on the most peculiar of days: April 1.

Read one posting on a statefans.com message board: “Oh dear God, please don’t let this be April Fool’s material.

As thousands of postings on popular sites like statefansnation.com, packpride.com and thewolfpacker.com inundate casual fans with innuendo, it becomes hard to distinguish fact from hearsay, legitimate speculation from outlandish scuttlebutt.

No matter how unfounded the speculation, the hunt for information becomes addictive. One statefansnation.com posting Saturday summed things up nicely.

“This site is like crack, it read. “My index finger is sore from clicking refresh, productivity at work has flat-lined, my fiance’s patience is wearing thin, and I’m always craving another sfn (state fan nation) fix!

Our popularity has most definitely ballooned in the last few weeks, and we couldn’t be more appreciative of every one of our reader’s interest and support. We really knew we were off and running when we had to switch from allowing anyone to post in our comments section to turning on the “register button” to help keep out the riff-raff.

We want you to know that we work hard to be very precise in what we say and share and we would never intentionally do anything to misplace your confidence. We try to treat this site like “the graduate level discussion” of NC State. We leave the undergrads and K-12 discussions for other sites. Since we aren’t looking to make a buck off of you (and large traffic counts), then we can apply a greater focus on quality. (More at “A Word About the Blog”)

SFN has garnered tons of “internet attention” this year as we have been complimented and discussed at various sites that range from the ACC focused DaveSez to the Big East’s Pitt Blather Blog. Additionally, local media like 850TheBuzzBlog and Taylor Zarzour’s morning radio show have also positively commented and reference SFN.

Aghast! Even Bob Lee Swagger has been saying some very nice things about us recently and therefore deserves a reciprocal link to his site. Don’t get used to that, BLS 🙂 In this piece, BLS is very complimentary:

Lee Fowler and Chancellor Oblinger are “good men so Mr Swagger is going to offer a few “suggestions as they move quickly to replace Herb.

Rule #1 – 50: TOTALLY IGNORE THE LUNATIC FRINGE. Do NOT dare “check out packpride.com wolfpacker.com or any other gurgling cyber cesspool of human idiocy. If you form the ubiquitous “search committee do not allow any of your committee to “check out those sado-masochistic castration parlours.

There ARE two websites where you CAN gauge the thoughts of LEGITIMATE Wolfpack rank & file fans. Those two sites are

http://www.redandwhitefromstate.com/

… AND

http://www.statefansnation.com/

There are folks even there that don’t like you very much. Lee, but at least those fans have all their chromosomes.

If you are new here, then spend some time taking a look around. We work hard at keeping the links along the right side of the page updated and dynamic…so, surf until your heart’s content. If you want to help us out, click here (it has nothing to do with money)

And, again…Thank you for being here!

GO PACK!!!

Anyone noticed that Wendel’s jet is scheduled to leave Memphis at 1:30 and arrive back in Raleigh at 4:05. Does he have an extra passenger? I’m real tempted to go the airport and find out some news.

Yuck ptui … this is getting waaaay too gaggy guys! Being “the best Wuff website (along w/ Alpha’s RedandWhite)” is like finishing first in the Special Olympics 100 yard stumble. … 🙂

… you guys ARE indeed doing a terrific job with this Category 5 story. Rival school websites could learn a lot from how you’ve installed an effective “idiot filter”.

Good luck to Tim later this afternoon … and get well soon for Jules.

You guys do a great job. I’ve been on your site 10 times/day for the past week.
You should list your “handles” and take a bow!

I think this site is by far the best NC State site on the web. It’s fast, clean, and free. The topics are timely, fresh, and (mostly) accurate.

I applaud the time and energy you take to make this the qualtiy site it has become.

You guys provide a valuable and greatly apprecaited service. I read the F&O and saw the reference to SFN and I just had to smile.

    GP PACK!

Oh, and for those who don’t get the Fay. Observer, Dan Wiederer is a pretty good young writer. Leans towards the dark side (Duke) a little, but you can’t have it all…
Most of our Sports guys around this neck of the woods are fair, and Sammy Batten does a good job keeping tabs on the preps coming out.
Other than Brett Freidlander, who is a total UNX/Dookie fan, (think of a poor man’s John Fienstien) most writers at the Fay. Observer do a superb job.

Always loved Sammy Batten. To be fair, Friedlander has done a better job this year than in the past.
