Nate McMillan Not Interested
Former N.C. State guard and current Portland Trail Blazers coach Nate McMillan told the Vancouver (Wash.) Columbian on Saturday night he is not interested in the job.
McMillan’s son, Jamelle, is being recruited by the Wolfpack. His official visit is scheduled for mid-April, but Nate McMillan said Sendek’s move could impact his son’s decision.
“I don’t know if he should now,� McMillan told the Columbian when asked if his son should still visit State.
“I think now you have to look at who’s going to be coaching there, and whether they’re interested,� McMillan continued. “I think the thing now is, does Sendek come after him to go to Arizona State?�

Hats off to Nate for clearing the water quickly however.
I’d expect no less from such a class individual.
Nobody seriously thought McMillan would leave the NBA for any college job. However, Jamelle McMillan and Chris Wright have got to be a concern!
The list only gets shorter if Nate was on your list.
Nobody in their right mind thought that McMillan would be interested in giving up a new contract that makes him one of the top paid coaches in the NBA ($4 to $5 mil a year) for a college job. NOBODY.
And…what would make McMillan a great candidate for the job? All of that college experience? The last 20 years spent on the west coast? All of his contacts and network within high school basketball?
This is GREAT NEWS that Nate was kind enough to go ahead and get this out in the public so that nobody wastes time talking about a candidacy.
To clarify,
I never thought he’d be a candidate, merely that other ppl included him on thier list, hence their list is now shorter..
McMillian has no experience recruiting, that would eliminate him imo.
agreed about McMillian, dude makes more than anyone in college basketball I would believe…
and Chris Wright and Jamelle McMillian are of very low importance at this time…
the coach will influence this program for the forseeable future…recruits come a dime a dozen…
don’t get me wrong I”d love to have them and I hope the new coach will keep them but they are not of importance at this time….
The program is bigger than any recruit. Our new coach will bring in plenty of fine recruits I certain.

Does anyone have a clue as to how much we’re going to budget for the next coach?? I mean, if ASU can pay Sendek over 1MM, surely we can exceed that for the likes of Barne, Smith, Calipari, etc. ?!
I think we should be concerned with the run that Jim Larranaga of George Mason has gotten. He’s taken his team deep in the tourney one time, with a regular season resume that probably shouldn’t have gotten him there–and all of a sudden he’s the hottest candidate for any major college.
Our dream candidate should be Lorenzo Romar from Washington–he can take teams deep in the NCAA tourney, and has proven that he can steal recruits from the likes of Roy Williams and Coach K.
If I am not mistaken, nate Never got his degree, Something which is required to coach at NCSU
That is interesting that Nate’s son was/is considering State, given the bad blood between Nate and the program.
