Maybe the Stars Were Aligned After All?

Prior to last night’s game, Jeff blogged an entry presenting the possibility that the Pack might be in a special situation to knock off the Tarheels. Just because the Wolfpack failed to capitalize on this opportunity doesn’t mean that the table wasn’t completely set for NC State win.

Let’s look at all of the things that went in NC State’s favor last night:

– No Rashad McCants

– NC State completely controlled the tempo

– NC State shot a blistering 44% from behind the arc

– Julius Hodge (entering the game below 20% from 3) goes 4 for 5 from deep, missing only a desperation heave

– Much better offensive rebounding then expected

– Sean May outscored Jordan Collins by one point

– Home court

– Sense of urgency

Given all of that, the best we could do was a ten point loss to add to our previous beating in Chapel Hill. That is almost too depressing for words.

no doubt about it, I thought the exact same thing last night. If we couldn’t beat them last night were not going to beat them. They are not the same team without McCants. They showed that in the Wake game and I did not think their offense looked very crisp last night. Last night was our night….and look what happened.

And in other news, evidently now when you ask to come out of the game to get a breather, it means your physically ill….who would have known…

The ten point difference can largely be attributed to one man – Raymond Felton. He put on an absolute clinic last night. He pushed the tempo on offense, he harrassed State on defense, he handled the ball under serious pressure and he knocked down several big shots.

It seemed like no one on Carolina could dribble last night other than Felton, but he still managed to dominate the game.

I thought Redick was storming out front for ACC POY after that Wake game, but after last night, I’m not so sure.

We should have won that game. Collins and Brackman both seemed to come out of the game when they were having their way with the heels. Maybe our substitutions should be less mechanical and have more to do with what is actually happening in the game at a given point in time? Also, I think it is great to shoot threes but maybe we should have tried to get Felton into foul trouble? He does seem to be the most critical link in their chain. I am really, really proud of our guys though. They played with heart and courage. It is too bad that their leader is their leader.
