Bad news: Mr. Brown has picked the wrong part of the season to start giving up (home)runs.
Good news: Pack won anyway in repeated comeback fashion. Good teams find a way to win.
Can the brooms be broken out on Mother’s Day? Some might say that’s antiquated and degrading. I say it’s all good as long as the boys are doing all the sweeping.

Wow that game was a replay overturn away from having to be won in extra innings. And I mean a long multi-step replay.
This team is good. Real good.
Have to give credit to Duke for a nice play to throw out a State runner at the plate. Real smart play by the second baseman. Can’t remember if it was yesterday or today (I watched them both today).

There was at least one other really big run in the second half if I’m not mistaken. There were some good shorter runs and multiple huge runs where they hit the hole and just took off and didn’t get touched till the other end of the field.

By the way, I didn’t see a spring game thread, so I guess this is as good a place as any. I watched the replay with one eye. Looked like a lot of rain, so not the best indicator of things. I did see some good pitches and catches despite the wetness and despite what looked like good coverage.
Anyone have any good observations from the game? (anyone watch it?)

No wonder there have been times when they struggle in the secondary. Someone should let them know that they can play one more guy back there. Could revolutionize their defense.

Won their first series against Louisville (I think). Went from looking like they were going to be lucky to not get swept to tearing off 4 runs in the 9th and then making Louisville look like they didn’t even belong on the same field on Sunday. Nice series win on the road.

If MLB gets this instant replay carcinoma that is ruining football and basketball, about the only sport left for me to watch will be bass fishing.

    Enough already.

We are a society that doesn’t know where the limits of technological abilities lie. Just because we can doesn’t mean we should. We can review each catch to see if there’s a hundredth of a millimeter of wiggle. Is it worth the 2-minute break and countless replays all in the name of “accuracy”? I’m sure we can’t go back. Therefore, we must get to the point where can track everything and automatically get readings. I’m not saying that’s the right way to go, but sports is being analyzed in such a way already; just in retrospect (through microscopic analysis of instant replays). Might as well make it more efficient and stop slowing down the games. You can argue for tradition, but concern for tradition left the building long ago.

And as baseball goes, two lopsided victories by both teams capped off by a pitchers’ duel. 0-0 top of the 7th; 4 hits apiece.

Pack is flipping the script from yesterday’s game and then some. Nice catch by VT’s centerfielder.

packerinrussia: NCAA not doing that. they’re going 13th amendment

Oh I know they won’t. I was just being silly. No good will come from this. As they say, “Mo’ money, mo’ problems”.
But I’d also being willing to bet that bad doesn’t necessarily come to all involved either. And if it took years to investigate and then let off the hook a slam dunk case like UNC, who knows what the NCAA will do with this. Or won’t do. And I get that the FBI is a different matter but smart coaches who knew what was going on stayed far enough away. And schools like UNC may be dumb, but they ain’t stupid.

I see an opportunity for the NCAA. Instead of putting this down as a major problem, they should embrace it as a solution for college athletes to make money. Then two issues go away: a way to pay athletes and this shoe business becomes a positive thing and not a stain. And then of course we’re behind the 8-ball again 🙂

I don’t even watch most games live any more. I am fine with seeing the recorded event in the evening, skipping the commercials, with the ability to turn it off when I lose interest. In the end, I think that this impacts the butts in seats more than anything else. All that TV money and increased

Agree with this. With even the smaller non-conference games on ESPN3 it’s just too easy to watch at one’s convenience. I can’t remember the last time I watched a game live (and not just because of the years in Russia). I almost always watch the games later in the evening or the next day without commercials and when it’s most convenient. Going to a game is an all-day event. Nice from time to time but not regularly.

Keatts seems to have the good balance of players liking him and players respecting him. Of course that’s far from enough to make one a good coach, but I think it’s a must in order to be a great coach.

This is two big wins in year one of KK. There were themes in both of them:
    – Other team not being good defensively
    – Al Freeman driving to the hole
    – Playing inside out
    – Making free throws
    – Hitting the glass hard
    – An opponent that wanted to get out and run
Play like this and we CAN clearly punch above our weight.

I think the first of those points may have been the biggest factor and unfortunately it’s not something they can control. I don’t think they’re going to win defensive battles and they’re not going to win all of their offensive battles. They avoided some things that got them in trouble in the first two ACC games. I don’t know if they were looking to pass on the drive more or if Duke was just leaving people open more, but it worked out well. And they didn’t settle for the three, but used it when it was there and were efficient with it (for the most part). And their free throw shooting was really good (and could have been better if a few more of those fouls had been called). Great defense is going to beat good/decent offense, but good/decent offense stands a chance against OK defense (or worse) and will come up on top sometimes, but not every time. I don’t know how many ACC foes they’re going to be able to hang 50 points in a half on. They played well against a defensively vulnerable Duke team though.
Thrilled for the win and I hope they can keep up some of the good things that they did in this game, but I’m not going to be surprised to see more games like Clemson and ND. With less than two weeks separating the games, it will be interesting to see if there is any improvement from Clemson the last time and Clemson coming up. And will playing at home make a difference? If they play as hard as they did Saturday night, it will at least be fun to watch and easier to cheer for.

^ Thanks for sharing that. That was fun to watch. Fun game to watch too. Fun for the team more than anyone, though. They may go on and not have a good rest of the season, but they’ll remember this for sure. Good for them.

What’s more exciting than Shaun Kirk throwing down an alley oop and someone coming back from the dead? A free Chick-fil-a sandwich apparently. Loudest cheer of the day.

Also missed in that: Shaun Kirk had just gotten on the floor before all that to the delight of the crowd. Hope he gets another chance.
