My issue is not deep. It doesn’t go into overall records with and without. Ken Pom rankings don’t matter. Maybe it should. We had that issue with Johnson to some extent. The fact is their record in the ACC doesn’t have what it takes to get in. If it’s close then I could understand. This isn’t close in my opinion.

8-10 conference record is all I need to know.

Defensive rebounding in the second half has been awesome.

I don’t think Miller would have had this immediate success. Obviously there is no way to know for sure but that’s my 2 cent worth.

He won at 94% clip. Now some will say it’s just a prep school and has no relevance. I say huey.

Most schools (with the exception of State) hire a coach that has been successful at his current school and then hope that success translates to the next level. But over the years, there have been a lot of coaches that were very successful at mid-major schools that ultimately failed in the ACC. I never tire of pointing out that success at Xavier has translated into success at a higher level for a lot of coaches…but not for Pete Gillen.

If it was easy to tell who was going to be able to bring their success with them, then there wouldn’t be so many firings every spring.

The point I was trying to make and maybe I didn’t was we shouldn’t be surprised with the first season success. Not going to believe just yet it’s going to last. I also don’t think people truly appreciate what takes to get 5 new players to buy in every year. Most of them are trying justify that D1 scholarship that they have already received.

FYI, I understand how the basketball hiring and firing works at the NCAA level, no need to assume I think it’s an easy process.

    Big Numbers
Kevin Keatts piled up the victories during his time at Hargrave Military Academy in Virginia, finishing with a 263-17 record in 10 overall seasons as head coach.
    1999-2000: 23-3
    2000-2001: 27-2
    2003-2004: 28-1, national prep champ
    2004-2005: 26-1, national prep runner-up
    2005-2006: 27-1, national prep runner-up
    2006-2007: 25-5
    2007-2008: 29-0, national prep champ
    2008-2009: 27-2, national prep runner-up
    2009-2010: 25-1
    2010-2011: 26-1

He won at 94% clip. Now some will say it’s just a prep school and has no relevance. I say huey.

He had to turn the roster over every year. Get a whole new bunch of kids to buy in. I am not saying they are NCAA bound but I am saying this shouldn’t come to a complete surprise. The talent is not complete crap. You have a big man who has improved his game a lot. A point guard who looked very good at times last year as a freshman. He happens to be the best on ball defender which creates havoc on the opposing PG. A transfer from UNC Charlotte who was freshman player of the year. Freeman brings the wisdom of the program. AF who can be a scorer. If Abu can get out of his funk then this team can be really versatile.

This my formal apology for being on the “Archie + Wichita State” team. 3 wins against top 10 teams was an impossible expectation for this team. I would have bet the house against this success, just another reason why I don’t gamble. Congratulations to this team and coach. Go Pack!

Al: I was on the Archie #1, but liked Keatts way more than any of the other names in play. I felt like we were locked in with Leatts early and I liked that we used our early position to get our coach within 24 hours of his tournament run being over. The fact that we did it before Archie was out was a clear indication it wasn’t Archie. I was mad for 15 minutes that it wasn’t Archie, but then was very happy it was Keatts.

Archie is doing well at IU. I think he is a great coach. I think we got a coach that fit the style of play that our fans want to see. Deep down I knew then (and I still feel) that we probably hired the best match for what we needed.

There a few mods who stomped their feet away from the site because of this hire. They know who they are and why.

What I find hilarious is you fault TOB for the Wilson situation. Don’t get me wrong TOB needed to go and was glad when he left. Wilson did himself no favors by not coming to spring practice so he could play baseball. TOB told him that if he still wanted to play football then he would have to fight for the job. Wilson couldn’t make up his mind to continue playing football. When he started to suck in baseball he figured he could just return to NCSU and his posistion would held open for him. That’s why TOB told him he would have to compete for the position. If he knows he is better than Glennon he shouldn’t have been all worked up over having to compete. TOB was loyal to the program and not Wilson. Wilson said screw it and left. Say what you want about TOB but he wasn’t going to let some kid run the show. I don’t blame him one bit for that.

The only thing I remember about TOB is he forced out Wilson. That is damning evidence enough.

    That’s hilarious!

It’s been rumored that he was butt hurt about the rumors he would have been fired if he lost last year to UNC. If he is going to let that get to him then he is in the wrong business. That’s what you get in the coaching business, fair or not. Be strong and accept it. TCB and let everything else go. I’m sure it’s easier said than done.

DD, I’m happy you stayed. Keep it going.

Looking back whose to say that Doreen’s agent dragged out the negotiations from October because even at that time there was considerable speculation there would be at least 5 openings in the SEC. That would have been the smart play. Maybe he was never leaving but why sign early?

Then leak out that talks have been contentious. He was never going to Ole Miss. Why take over a program that has potential sanctions coming and going into the Deep South when most of his life has been upper Midwest. Doreen had leverage and I don’t think he overplayed his hand. He got exactly what he wanted.

Second win against a top five team not in the ACC when we were not ranked. The last was in the 1950’s. Per WRAL.

Keatts had them ready. I hope he is what I thought he could be when he was hired. When he was hired I thought Keatts would be a game changer. Please be that guy. I know it’s early but it seems different.

I’m sorry I think they have had a good season. Beginning of the year if you told me what our record would be 8-4 and 6-2 in the Atlantic division I would take it. Yeah the WF loss hurts. Step away and review after the season. The program is not in as bad as shape as you seem to think it is. Just my opinion.

30 plus loss. Not a dig to the new Coach and returning players but they are just not there yet. The full court press is not consistent enough yet and the talent level AZ has will have no problem beating it. Three point shooting for the Pack is weak. The great equalizer is not there.

If you think that kind of game planning in the final seconds is ok then you can have it. That was completely horrible. Unacceptable to me.

I think your rant toward Finley is unacceptable. That’s what I replied to.

I get it, but Finley has to own this to a degree. He didn’t give them every chance to score. He lost his head big time. I would rather take a incompletion than throw over the middle for 5 yards with no time outs. Then on the next play not spike it. If you don’t spike it then get rid of it quick towards the sideline. Have another play. Don’t roll out and hold the ball what seemed like an eternity. Sorry he screwed the chance to win this one.

Why do throw in the middle of the field with no timeouts? Then don’t spike it. Then roll out and kill all kinds of time. Unreal. Damn I’m pissed.

I’m not even mad at the kid trying to make a play. At least it was an effort play. He fumbled. It happens.

Finely go to the NFL or wherever you want to go.
