I would bet the house that whomever plucks Arch away from Dayton is going to be very happy years from now. Again, the coaching acumen is in his veins.

I really admire those of you who are still optimistic about this season. Wish I shared that attitude. After Sunday’s debacle I decided to not watch another game this season, it’s bad for my mental state. Thankfully, I was on my way back from Maryland last night, so I didn’t get to watch. However, as I pulled into NC, I caught a little bit on the radio . . . I think what little light in me died once I heard the score.

By all means, I don’t think a new coach is the right move. But Gott and Co. need to really coach/recruit their asses off.

You know you don’t have much when the ‘ole Coach K/Beamer argument follows.

It is now year four, all his guys, and we are seeing the same issues over and over, year after year, without correction or explanation. Same coach speak. He doesn’t have the answers. For a moment after Duke I thought it’d be different this year. It won’t. Same stuff different year.

Anybody that thinks Archie isn’t going to be twice the coach that Gott is, is a fool.

I am now resigned to the fact that we’ll be having this same exact discussion two or three years from now, except there will be no hopes for an Archie Miller, as he will have already been plucked and is making BIG money somewhere else. And we’ll be talking about when (or how) to get rid of Gott and what re-tread might possibly have an interest in coming our way.

Gott needs more than big talent to win. He ain’t a great coach, not even a good coach. Not a smart coach. You have seen the plateau of Gott. I hope we have the guts to pull the trigger. Our players deserve more.

Wendell Murphy just tweeted that he nor his affluent WP fat cats would be (nor would they be permitted) offering buyout fund to AD Yow. They did not feel the current situation merited such drastic action.

However, they HAD arranged for a “help” or crisis line….1-800-BACK AWAY. The pass word is GOTT GOTTA GO! Make sure you include the exclamation mark.

BUT, before that service was functional, the contractor was hired away by the Iron Dukes as THEY made a more compelling (and had MORE $$) case for it.

Mikey announced today the dismissal of Sulaiamon….for repeated (or consistently) violating team rules. The Dukies are aghast and there are report that it was for certain activities at a frat party….or perhaps a pee-pee test that had been failed numerous times before.

Coach Williams commented….”Wow….that’s rather harsh….we handle these things differently….”

SO, as someone stated…..deep breaths. Repeat your the special WP TM Mantra…. Remember 74 & 83, Remember 74 & 83….

The only thing in a spiral here is the tone of the posts…..

As to Mikey and Roy’s “team had a bad night” comment. When an unranked team defeats DUKE….that is a Bad Night….and Coach K offered no other excuses. BUT, when the #9 team beats the #8 team when THEY have an off night, that is the coaching Faux Pas of the decade…..SHEESH…..

Mikey announced today the dismissal of Sulaiamon…

    …Yes he did…

Breaking “team rules” in his third year… easily may be symptomatic of more fundamental issues…

It sounds to me like Mr. Dog’s “little green goblin” , who clearly enjoyed the Football season in Chapel Hill, moved on over to Cameron for the first half of basketball season. Having done all he could do there, he and his unquenchable thirst for drama headed down 147/40 to Wade Avenue last week looking for more vulnerable prey …

Back to Coach Rat… Anybody else wonder why he waited until after 1K && ND to pull the string ?

More importantly, anybody else wonder if some other local players might give pause and consider Mr. 5-Stars outcome when expectations finally met reality face to face?

Then I’m also sure some of the lunatic fringe would hand Mr. 5-Stars a scholarship tonight… Head Cases are no problem at NCState… and this one is just what we need … 10-15pts plus 5 rebounds a game from two positions and our ‘new’ best on-ball defender… just what the doctor ordered….

    yeah… right….

Apparently Sheed juat ran out of chances, according to NandO sources.

He is the first player to be kicked off the team in Mike Krzyzewski’s 35 years at Duke.

If you want to make something more of it, systemic perhaps, go right ahead. But my gut says the boys are saying good riddance. When you when 1k+, you earn the benefit of the doubt. Even in year 35.

Look gott isn’t a bad coach – those statements are foolish. He’s close to the top of his profession.

Like I said – a see a very similar pattern to the results of tom O’Brien. A lot of our fans thought he’d win big here…and I think if he’d gotten here 5 years earlier you would have seen better reusults – but I don’t think he would have won a championship.

Likewise, I will be pleasantly surprised of gott establishes us as a top 4 acc team.

But he’s done an overall solid job so far.

As for coach it changes – I can’t understand why you’d look anywhere else but Gregg Marshall first. I don’t want to see him at duke or UNC or anywhere else in this damn conference. I would pay him as much as possible. He’s knocking the cover off the ball just like he did at Winthrop.

And by all means I am not insulting Archie Miller. I like Archie, always have back to the days before he came to State. I wish him very well. I just get tired of people assuming he is the answer of answers.

That ship has sailed, as far as DY is concerned. Sadly, with what he has now built at Wichita, he’d probably give us the finger the second time around.

He’s going to be very good for somebody somewhere, and for a very long time. He is 36 years old, and he knows what he is doing.

    Speaking of WTF games …

Our ‘old friends’ the Twerps went down again last night in the Big Ten…

    This time to Ohio State….
That’s the Third Big 10 loss this season…

Seems when the Twerps see Red and White on the hardcourt, some thing changes in their subconscious…

Coach Turgeon and plenty of Twerp fans GOTT to be shaking their heads over that…

    Karma is a beeetch….

I totally agree with this. While I dont think he is the savior as some but I think we have a hell of a lot better chance reaching the top 25 with Arch then Gott. Gott is the pure definition of fools gold.

I think his relationship with yow and making the tourney for 3 years (he and yow will milk that for all its worth) will keep him here for a while.

If his off the court stuff gets him fired and I put it at a decent chance, then you have to give Marshall a blank check and if he or Shaka Smart dont bite the suck it up and hire Arch.

as Wufpack has mentioned several times… no more Marshall talk please…. that bridge was burned to the ground, pissed on, stirred, then pissed on again to make sure it was cold. For better or worse, Marshall and Yow aint gonna be working together no where no how.

Sulaimon was booted off team for anger problems. Bad temper and just loses it. K almost kicked him off the team this summer but gave him one more chance. Apparently there was an incident after Notre Dame game so he is gone. This is from a former Duke player that is still close to the program.

I knew a guy who was a D III women’s basketball coach. He insisted that at that level, he had to play the same way all of the time because that’s all his players could handle. When the team was playing man-to-man defense, they had to handle the pick-and-roll the exact way each time or the team would get confused. You either had to switch all of the time or fight through all of the time.

It seems we employ the same strategy. The other team runs a high ball screen and we switch 100% of the time. And it ends up that their guard drives by our big man and the weak side help is late or they get a mismatch inside to exploit. We’re borderline incompetent defending the most basic play in basketball.

Since defensive rebounding is hardly a strength anyway, we might as well play zone.

what happened here, was it the low ball offer or something else?

    Couple of comments…

First….it has been a really DRY run since last (week ago) Thursday night. Women and men have BOTH lost 3 in a row….OUCH. I think it is time to wash the lucky red undies again….but Gott needs to outlaw any light blue garment on the bench. He is doing better….but the AC’s are NOT.

    Second…..
Shaka and the Surprise. Ms. Shaka has a tighter control on Shaka than Miki does on Mikey. FTR, it was HIM who said YES…I’m your man and his and our lawyers spent the entire night hammering out an agreement on the LOI. THEN, next morning, Ms. (very PG) Shaka said….”You can go, boy….but I’m gonna stay”. The VCU folks are working more on keeping that attitude in her head than how they’re gonna pay him each year that he has a good team. SHE is the secret defense to keep him from MOVING….

    Third….
Greg Marshall. Memories fade. Also there was NEVER any official comment by AD Yow. That lady is TOUGH and she would make a whole lot better Secretary of Defense than Hill or Johnny “Windsurfer) Kerry….for that matter, I’d put her in the WH in a heart beat….

She never came out and said. There was a LOT of speculation about WHOM said the infamous….”It would be an honor to play against Mikey and ORW”….rather than “I’d love the opportunity to compete and defeat Mikey and ORW”. She cut off that conversation quickly…..don’t know WHOM she had it with.

Whether Gary Williams was an influence on Marshall’s decision has never really been publicly addressed….nor probably should it be. Mike Cronin MIGHT have been the guy that would have been honored to play in the Dean Dome and Cameron….just for his resume.

Bottom line….Greg supposedly said no….he was “rumored” but announced, rather emphatically, that he was staying….

The rest is history. Debbie said in a very late night email on Sunday that she was frustrated….thus the “status email” but she had someone in mind that would be a really good choice….and then later confirmed it was Gott.

We GOTT GOTT….right, wrong and indifferent. He DID GOTT to the sweet 16….how long has that been?

We, DO, play with intensity and are fun to watch…at times. Herb’s teams had about as much “sex appeal” as Oprah in a Burka…..

Lowe’s teams showed flashes and the ACC Tourney run in 2007 was one of the highlights…..never to be repeated.

Gott’s teams are inconsistent….and that is it….we looked like UVA or ND or Duke for a few minutes against Clemson….and then somebody pulled the plug….

GT is gonna be a real test. We need to go in and destroy them…..grind the little yellow jacket into the court….we do NOT have the Killer Instinct that we need. For all our complaining about Mikey, he is a military man. Totally destroy your enemy so that he, or his descendants will NEVER want to do battle with you again. That is his training….and he does it on the court. I’ll bet he has a dog eared copy of the Sun Tzu’s “Art of War” and reads it every night before he goes to bed…..or until Miki turns out his reading light….

So, unless someone has hard evidence that he and his roommate are filming child porn in his basement or video of he and Taylor Cunningham on the 18th in daylight and totally without clothing and with a gaggle of onlookers or whatever, he will be our coach….we are NOT going to pony up $2.25KK to remove him…. IF you feel that he should GO…then set up a website and a PayPal account (escrow) and start taking donations….if you get the $$, THEN go see AD Yow (I will personally pay GOOD and BIG $$’s if you let me go with you….although it may scar me, emotionally, for life)….

    roo is all over it

win lose or draw I think Gott is our coach and by looking at our results, method of play and recruiting I think we may be in for a sh*t show over the next few seasons.

I still stand by that his off the court behavior is a bigger issue then people realize. The story about him in Atlantic Beach with the Hollers are legendary.

I tend to agree with Roo’s assessment of the search. He’s got more insider information than I do, but it aligns with what I put together.

I thought it was the Turg who was honored/intimidated by UNC. He went to Kansas, played under Brown and thus kissed the altar that was UNC. Boom, that was done and he was hired shortly thereafter at Maryland.

Marshall and Cronin (at least to me) don’t seem like the types that would have ever said that. Both have Napoleon syndromes and aren’t kissing the ground of anyone.

I also tend to agree with Roo’s assessment that contractually, we’ve got Gott a long time. Yow’s seemingly basically got him on a lifetime contract. It’s not quite as bad as that one Paul Hewitt has, but its an interesting approach for such a high risk candidate.

I don’t profess to know a lot of inside stuff….and Turgeon MAY have been in the mix. That would make sense as to his approach to ORW.

GOTT’s situation IS a bit of conversation by the boys that go out and troll for $$’s for the WPC and it don’t sit too well with some of them….

DY used the high reward incentives to get him….as well as Doren. He had a 2 year Extension….and when the final horn sounded in Columbus….he was OUR man….7 years….nothing but cut and dried. DY did give him a raise later on….but that was NOT in his base. So, the original LOI with incentives is still in effect….he was hired for 5 and hit the lottery and got 2 more.

BUT, that is DY’s issue…and I don’t think that an email is gonna change that….

He seems a bit perplexed….frustrated also. This team does not gel like it ought to…..what works one night is the pits the next.

Maybe we have been figured out….but the second half of the Clemson game was one of the best efforts that we have had…..right up until we ran out of energy (emotion) and the Ref’s started tweeting.

If we could have tied or GOTT even a 1 point lead….then I think we could have survived. We came within 3…

Shots were not falling for Turner….and that hurt. Lacey was on fire. Cat played some good D….but then when the lead slipped away, he forgot that he had team mates and started his little…”I’m LeBron” and I’m gonna singlehandedly win this…..THEN, it got ugly again.

What happened in the first half….I really don’t know. I watched it unfold…..and felt really bad. BUT, when we came out in the 2nd half….and broke the 10 point deficit, I REALLY thought we were gonna pull it out….

Who KNOWS….What is needed now is to keep Abu & the Martins happy…..but maybe they see how well Purvis is doing….

What is needed now is to keep Abu & the Martins happy…

That should be the easiest thing we GOTT to do…

They know they are freshman and will make freshman mistakes..
They know they are pushing the Sh%t out of the older players and they love that…

They should see the next two or three years as belonging to them…
