What Did Columbus Actually Say When Approaching Pittsburgh?

“Paisanos! We are in waters I ain’t seen in a long time!”

Now, I am a student of history, and I’m pretty sure Chris never navigated the Allegheny, Monongahela and Ohio, but if he woulda, that, like many Wolfpackers, is what he’d have said. Trust me. Pretty sure he warned pilots about rocks along the way, too. “Awhhh…funculo! There goes the Santa Maria. Minchia!”

Road games are like the stuff Christibol went through. Ripe with unfamiliarity, angst at not really knowing the lay of the land and the disposition of the natives. This Pack crew knows absolutely nothing about the Panthers. Never encountered them, never seen ’em in their habitat, ‘cept for some Marlin Perkins films.

“Jim! Are you aware that these Panther Sophomores are the #30 ranked recruiting class?”

“Yes, Marlin. They are young and wirey, and not yet wise in their ways. Their Alpha padded on off to Buffalo.”

“Yeah, Jim. They also have this trainer called Narduzzi. Like handlers before him, he has that panther instinct to orchestrate kills on inattentive prey, no matter the current state of the pride.”

“Yep. Marlin? Hey wait. Have we ever seen a pride of panthers? I don’t think so. Those cats are sneaky enough on their own. Did you know that Columbus returned with only two ships?”

” Sure, Jim. What the hell does Columbus have to do with panthers?”

“Nothing, really, Marlin. Wanna discuss Captain Cook and Hawaiians? I got some film of that. Poor devil got cocky and lost more than a ship.”

how do you come up with this stuff, CD? Nice. Although a tight rope you are walking… I think discussion around Christopher Columbus these days will come to be poo poo’d by the PC folk. And the PC folks wipe their ass with the 1st amendment if you aren’t speaking their language.

12 point favorites on the road… I might be inclined to actually put some money on the dog. It’s textbook setup for a let down game. We’re the hunted now.. does Pitt have anything to prove? I do think we win but I’m expecting a fight.

You forgot to add the part where Marlin says “Jim wrestles the alligator while I wait in the truck”. Well, our guys better be ready and not “waiting in the truck” like Marlin because they can “orchestrate kills on inattentive prey, no matter the current state of the pride.”.

Personally, I don’t see a trap game from here out. Not because of our opponents, or that we are that good. More because this team should realize by now that we have the ability to put together an exceptional season, and anything less than full preparation AND execution can easily translate to a loss at any time, thus derailing things.

The above doesn’t mean that we win out, merely that there is even less excuse than usual for stepping on your own d!ck from here onward . Of course, that does mean that everyone is committed to that at this point (yes, this is an assumption)

It does seem this team is a bit more focused.

I’m betting the PACK rolls into town, totally disregarding the lay of the land and the local culture, takes care of business and leaves ’em in disarray…Wild West Cowboy style…

Ride in, Shoot ’em up, Ride on to the next town….

    I’m not thinking; I’m just feeling it…

Revisionist History CD? I’ve read many a history book but I don’t seen to recall whatcha writ but it is entertaining. Not to be picky about history but we were in VERY similar waters in 2002. I was at the Carter when we went down in flames on that Thursday night. It wasn’t pretty. Here’s hoping we don’t get dashed on the rocks. I’m pretty sure the three rivers haven’t seen a hurricane since Agnes in 73 so no high winds or driving rain but considering our last forays into games played in an intense storm (see Syracuse 97 and the Dame in 16) that could help us if it happened.
