NC State Issues Statement on WTVD Report

Found this statement to be interesting in the way that it was worded as the department isn’t putting up much of a denial around WTVD’s report that Mark Gottfried will not be back in west Raleigh next year. Instead, the department is choosing to come out strong around the part of the report that NC State has already sent out ‘feelers’ to alumnus and current Dayton Head Coach, Archie Miller.

Of course, any potential connection with Archie Miller and/or any other potential coaching candidate would never be done directly and wouldn’t even be led by an official member of the Athletics Department. So, all of these reports and denials are generally semantics.

How much would it cost to hire MARK FEW?

More than apparently anyone has. Few could leave Gonzaga whenever he wanted and hasn’t.

    Mark Few…

Couple of good “Goonies” or maybe some of Red Reddington’s “Persuaders” from the Black List. You would need to kidnap his family and hold them hostage. Then you implant a chip that would release a deadly toxic substance in each one should he NOT continue to be our “gainfully employed coach”. Don’t know what Red pays his people….but if we had THEM, we probably could convince Mark Few to come to Raleigh.

Short of that, I don’t think there is enough money to attract him….he seems fine with his Left Coast lifestyle….

I think UCLA wanted him, and he said no. Unless he’s been on video having Christian conversation with various farm animals in Eastern WA since then…he stays.

To paraphrase Lt. Col. William “Bill” Kilgore from Apocalypse Now,

“I love the smell of NC State in the evening, it smells, it smells like stupidity.”

Since Few is an option let’s just gun for the a$$hole that coaches the Spurs.

I’m sure he, like everyone else, is dying to come to Raleigh and coach.

Mark Few should have been in play two searches ago. In threads like this I floated his name and had many State fans tell me he wasn’t good enough.

He’s turned down UCLA, Oregon, Washington State and others. I wouldn’t be surprised if Berkeley didn’t reach out to him as well. No way he’s in play now, and can anyone get more obvious? It was like the Wake fans when they thought they were getting Brad Stevens.

Now I hear the same things about Arch (i.e. we should be after other “better” candidates). We’ve got to get out ahead and grab the candidate earlier as opposed to waiting too long. As it is, we may have waited a year too long (as I don’t think anyone really saw Ohio State possibly coming open last season). Arch has all the things to win really big at a high major. Back up the Brinks truck and make it happen.

Anybody that thinks Mark Few is leaving Gonzaga for NC State is delusional. Not happening. Move on to the next guy.

Very sad indeed. Well on the bright side it will just prolong the agony before the F up the next hire.

I am sorry…But if you didn’t think a) that Gottfried was getting fired and b) that Archie would be one the Top 2 candidates – you’re in denial.

Let’s just think of it this way…Dave Doeren builds NC State into a consistent winner – clearly outpacing TOB, MOC, and Amato….When a big job like Nebraska, Michigan,tOSU opens up – do you not think that everyone and his brother will know that DD is a candidate?

Was it planted as a kind of a mea culpa for last time for any burned bridges? Was it leaked unitnetionally? Who knows? Who cares.

Don’t overreact. When you are facing a total meltdown like we are seeing (and that’s just the stuff we can see) – you know this is coming.

My only concern is if Arch thinks this is indicative of a larger disfunction and says I don’t want to deal with that trainwreck. This, and the way others continue to hate his former coach and boss, could understandably tip the scales.

Weird that no other news source has reported the potential firing.

Exactly why it is absolutely critical how we manage the situation from here on out! Without knowing exactly what HAS happened, it’s hard to say what we should do. Regardless, whatever it appears we do (perception is reality) will be viewed as a direct reflection of who we are and how we operate (as it should). Just human nature boys!

Btw, if I am Randy Woodson, how Debbie performs between yesterday and the end of the season will dictate her future employment with NC State.

The general rule of thumb for predicting State decisions, is to ask yourself, “What would a proactive, highly successful organization do?” Then simply expect the opposite. This highly scientific method has proven remarkably accurate going on 27 years now.

    The solution is simple, really…
