Wolfpack Women Stop Multiple Streaks, beat Duke 65-62

Wes Moore and the women’s basketball team went into Cameron Indoor Stadium and upset #22 Duke 65-62 tonight. The women stopped two very long streaks tonight:

1. Duke had not lost to NC State at Cameron since 1996
2. Duke had won 152 straight home games against unranked foes

The Pack now has won 4 straight conference games after starting with a loss in Miami and is now 13-5 overall, and 4-1 in the ACC.

Dominique Wilson had 19 points to lead the scoring while birthday girl Jennifer Mathurin scored 15 points, including 4 shots from the bonus sphere. The Wolfpack lead most of the way, including leading by four at the half. At one point in the 3rd quarter, State was up 45-38. Duke came back and lead 55-53 in the fourth quarter but then Ashley Williams hit a three pointer to give State a 56-55 lead. That was the last time that State trailed during the game. At the end of the game, after two offensive rebounds resulting in three full offensive possessions totaling between 80-85 seconds took the clock from two minutes to about 40 seconds. The last of the three possessions ended in a nice dish to Mathurin for a layup to put State up 60-57. The Pack made their free throws down the stretch and won the game.

Once they got back to the locker room, a well deserved celebration was had.

Next up, #23 Louisville at Broughton High School Sunday at 2 PM. Congratulations on the big win!

A good coach can make a real difference in a program. It has been proven a 1000 times in athletics. It doesn’t take long to see it. And it usually takes a few years in the WL column, however.

CONGRATS to WES and WBB team.

The women bounced back from an incredibly painful loss to #23 Louisville (led by 8 with 3 min to go and lost not because they turned it over a ton or missed a bunch of free throws, but because Louisville couldn’t miss from 3) by handing Va Tech their first home loss. They’re playing very well right now, and the young players are really starting to come along.

I cannot stress how much more fun they are to watch than the men’s team right now. They’re smart, move the ball, have dynamic guards and a bunch of shooters.

The road games are normally on either ESPN3 or FSN. The home games you can stream on gopack.com. They’re playing their home games at Broughton this year because Reynolds is being renovated, which is a little sad, but you can go to the games for real cheap.
