Friday’s NC State Campus Insiders Report

We always appreciate the coverage from our partners at USA Today!

One item that got lost in editing was the crux of the point being made in “NCAA Positioning”. The top 100 “win” on “Wednesday night” was not an NC State win. It was Tennessee’s win over LSU that moved the Vols into the Top 100 and gave the Pack a 9th win over Top 100. Somehow that wasn’t clearly stated in the video.

We may well beat Syracuse on Saturday. Their emotions about the sanctions could run either way, ranging from angry and hyper-motivated to “eff it” and indifferent. As for us, it’s the usual Forrest Gump ‘box-of-chocolates,’ meaning you never know which NC State team will show up for the first half. Hopefully the team will be motivated and firing on all cylinders.

Miami losing to VT? I suppose anything is possible but that has to be in the list of “not likely to happen.” So it’s seventh place for us.

This year in the ACC has proven to be unpredictable. So maybe the hokies can pull it off. But our job is to win our game against Syracuse, then see what happens. Go Pack!

Well Syracuse got it handed to them with those sanctions. All while UNC still gets nothing for academic fraud that is far worse than Syracuse. What else can be said anymore….

Syracuse will be ready to play no doubt. We can certainly win this game if we play hard from the start and all the way through. If Turner and Lacey come out ice cold let’s hope they sit and let the Martins/DEZ fill that role until they find their shot. We can’t afford for them to shoot until they find it this game.

You can also argue that syracuse got away with murder the last 15 years as well. True not as bad as unc but this is nothing more than a slap on their wrists. I almost hate syracuse as bad as unc cheats but the ncaa i think is even more of a laughingstock after this. I cant wait to see how espn spins this as poor syracuse but syracuse should have got iN more trouble. You are up UNC. I actually think jay bilas may have something to say at some point and i hope he continues to give ncaa a.hard time like he has in the past. Oh well here is to a good showing tomm.

Sanctions, sanctions, sanctions. First, congrats to John Swofford in his “New And Improved ACC”. Gotta love it even more now that Syracuse basketball is part of if not most of (along with Duke, UNC and Louisville) the ACC.

I’m sure that for next season’s Duke-Syracuse game(s), Dickie V can tell the ESPN viewers that Syracuse is really a class act.

And hopefully CBS will pull out their big guns for tomorrow’s game here, reminding us of just how fortunate we should all feel that we’ve again been graced by the presence of Coach Jim Boeheim. If he’s out for the first half of next season’s ACC schedule, then why isn’t he out tomorrow as well?

13ot – I think the punishment is better if he’s out half the season next year.

Still – I think the cuse got off light. At the end of the day – this “punishment” does nothing to dissuade others from cheating.

You want cheating to stop- throw the book at those who break the rules. If Syracuse got a 3 year postseason ban – schools would think twice about breaking the rules. Instead, they are allowed to “self-impose” in a year they stood a very good chance of missing the tournament anyway. Big deal.

The big question with NCAA sports isn’t “why do school cheat?” The bigger question is “why don’t they cheat?”

Obviously the NCAA is much more concerned with a member institution who lets a pedophile hang around the campus who just happened to be a former high ranking assistant. The dirty secret is that this wasn’t a sports thing but a result of the moral ambiguity/pretzel logic created by “the right to privacy”/”well he was never charged so we can’t ruin his life” mindset…which of course doesn’t apply if he had been suspected of raping a coed. Translation: if Sandusky was a professor instead, I suspect the university’s reaction would have been the same. Further translation: if the NCAA had simply said “this is a criminal matter, and the school president and others are facing criminal charges” no school is going to think its a good idea to keep a child molester on campus, there is zero benefit to the school to do that. Cheating, OTOH – is long term a good idea for a college athletic department.

To change directions for a moment, I have a feeling we’ll know the outcome today in the first five minutes. I believe most, if not all, of our bad losses have begun that way.

I’ve been vocal of Gottfired but I’ve decided it’s best to support the team as long as the wheels don’t fall off. It’s hard to argue with making the tourny 4-4.

I think the biggest factor in the Cuse penalty will be Dollars forfeited. I haven’t seen an amount but it should be substantial .

Obviously the loss of scholarships is a kiss of death PLUS forfeited money. (tried to edit but failed)

Well, they sure came out cold shooting 1 for 8. Just curious, how do Lacy and Turner find their shot without shooting?

Yeah, that football schedule is way off…most of the games listed here are on Sundays. Don’t think that’s right.

Can someone please tell that guy in the video that “vs.” is pronounced “versus” and not “verse”?
