Looking at #Pack16

Quarterback Dylan Parham

NC State currently has five commitments in The 2016 class. The commitments consist of Harrison Gee (Burlington, NC), Tim Glass (Danville, VA), Dylan Parham (Raleigh, NC) Joe Sculthorpe (Hampstead, NC) and Kobe Smith (Lawrenceville, GA).

Harrison Gee has been a longtime Wolfpack fan since his father Mike Gee was an offensive lineman for NC State from 1988-92. Gee committed early to The Pack back in the summer. He is a 3 star offensive lineman who also held an offer from West Virginia and interest from Clemson and Wake Forest.

Tim Glass is a 3 star safety who also had scholarships from Charlotte, Cincinnati, East Carolina and Virginia Tech. Glass committed the day before State’s worst performance of the season — the road loss to Clemson.

Dylan Parham, a 3 star quarterback is a local recruit from Southeast Raleigh High School that has all the potential to be a solid quarterback in The ACC. Parham also held a offer from Old Dominion.

Joe Sculthorpe is a 3 star offensive lineman who commited to NC State back in September over East Carolina. He is also a state champion wrestler. Former NC State player JR Sweezy was also a state champion wrestler so hopefully Sculthorpe can turn out like Sweezy who is playing OL for the Seattle Seahawks.

Kobe Smith a impressive 3 star defensive tackle is the latest Pack16 commit. Smith has all the potential to be a great defensive lineman in The ACC as he picked The Wolfpack over Indiana, Iowa, Virginia Tech, Wake Forest and West Virginia.

#Pack16 will be a smaller class than #Pack14 and #Pack15 due to the limited number of available scholarships, but there is plenty of top talent in the State of North Carolina for the Pack.

NC State is still looking to take another quarterback in this class and some names to be aware of are – Chazz Surratt (Denver, NC), Jamie Newman (Graham, NC) and DJ Daniels (Wilson, NC). Surratt is a 4 star quarterback who is in the same conference as Pack15 commit, Darian Roseboro. He is also one of the top players in the state.

The top two running backs in the state are: BJ Emmons (Morganton, NC) and Antonio Williams (New London, NC). Emmons recently committed to Georgia as Williams recently committed to Wisconsin but was formerly committed to North Carolina. The names to keep aware of right now are Robert Washington (Huntersville, NC), Jordon Brown (Durham, NC), Cade Carney (Mocksville, NC), Tre Harbison (Shelby, NC), Moe Neal (Gastonia, NC) and Kennedy McKoy (Lexington, NC). Two names to especially consider are Tre Harbison and Kennedy McKoy. State is in a good position with them.

North Carolina is also loaded with talent at the wide receiver position which will probably be a position of emphasis for the the Wolfpack. Thaddeus Moss (Charlotte, NC), Divine Deablo (Winston-Salem, NC) Cornell Powell (Greenville, NC), Emmanuel Jones (Asheboro, NC) and Dionte Overton (Greensboro, NC) all look to be interesting prospects. Thaddeus Moss is the son of legend NFL wide receiver, Randy Moss. Moss is a big time target who received offers from Marshall and Wake Forest today. Divine Deablo might have the coolest name in The 2016 class but seems like a long shot for The Pack. Cornell Powell comes from the same high school as as NC State player, Kentavius Street but seems to like Clemson at the moment but State is in a good position it with him. Emmanuel Jones has visited NC State a good amount as State is at the top of his list alongside West Virginia. Dionte Overton who was recently offered is a big target that is also a excellent basketball player. Hopefully State can land Powell and Jones, these two could be very good wide-outs in the future.

For the offensive line, main names to keep aware of are Taleni Suhren (Charlotte, NC), Landon Dickerson (Hickory, NC), Sean Pollard (Southern Pines, NC) and Alex Gourley (Statesville, NC). Suhren is a 3 star lineman who attends Ardrey Kell High School. State is in a good position with him alongside Duke. Dickerson is a coveted recruit who is currently a 3 star but his rankings should rise. Unfortunately, He just came out with a top three and NC State was not in it. Look for Clemson to be making a push for him. Sean Pollard is a 4 star lineman who is considered the top lineman in the state. Pollard almost committed back in the fall which was most likely going to be Duke. He likes Duke, Clemson and NC State currently. Gourley is a 3 star center who likes NC State. One of the nicest kids you can talk to as Kentucky is showing interest in him. There might not be room for Gourley due to Joe Sculthorpe committing early.

The name to keep an eye on along the defensive front is defensive tackle Dexter Lawrence from Wake Forest, NC. Lawrence a 5 star recruit attends the same high school as Pack15 target Bryce Love. Wake Forest will be playing for the state championship this week against Mallard Creek, a rematch of last years championship. Lawrence can pretty much pick the school he wants to attend as Florida is considered the frontrunner right now. State will need to keep recruiting him hard. Christian Colon a 3 star defensive tackle from Charlotte, NC who attends the powerhouse Independence High School is another name to keep an eye on. He holds offers from Boston College, UNC, NC State, Virginia and Wake Forest. He has already visited State and knows current NC State player and former Independence standout, Jack Tocho. Jimmie Taylor a 3 star defensive end from Jacksonville, NC is another prospect to watch. He currently holds an offer from State but seems to like North Carolina but there is still plenty of time. Julian Okwara a 3 star defensive end from Charlotte, NC was recently just offered by NC State. He is teammates with offensive lineman Taleni Suhren. That would be great to get both Suhren and Okwara as The Charlotte pipeline is very important.

For linebackers Keion Joyner is considered one of the top players in the country from Havelock, NC but is considered an SEC lean. He is a 5 star linebacker and has the potential to be one of the best collegiate linebackers in the country. Ryan Gilmartin a 3 star linebacker from Charlotte Chrisitan is another linebacker to keep an eye on. He attends the same high school as Pack15 commit Philip Walton and current Wolfpack players, Bo Hines and Garrett Bradbury. Garrett Hooker is a 3 star middle linebacker from Thomasville, NC who could potentially earn a offer from NC State down the road. Isaiah Stallings a 3 star safety from Fayetteville, NC is another player to keep a watch on. He has already visited NC State and holds a offer. He would be a big time in-state pickup for The Pack.

Pack16 is already off to a great start with 5 commitments…but this class could be super special. NC State is still riding momentum from The 35-7 thrashing in Chapel Hill and now has won the last 6 out of 8 games against the Tar heels. Hopefully these recruits can see what Head Coach Dave Doeren is currently building in Raleigh. As a State fan I have never been more excited for what the future holds for NC State Football as Coach Doeren is doing a spectacular job of turning around NC State Football in what it used to be.

5 Star Defensive Lineman Dexter Lawrence

Cade Carney and Kennedy McCoy are extra special. If you get an opportunity next season you should definitely check them out if you live in the Winston Salem area. Those two guys are men among kids on the field.

McKoy is the real deal. State is in a good position with him.

Parham is more of a pocket QB that can run. He’s a very good athlete but also very raw at the QB position.

A little off topic, but we need to get in early on Cam Harris from Northern Guilford. A soph who’s never played QB before, and didn’t really want to initially, he’s returned Northern to yet another state championship game. Kenan Allen’s cousin, he can flat out play. Has an arm and can run the spread.

Speaking of commits, don’t be surprised if you see a local 2015 4* FSU commit to flip to the pack…

Johnny Frasier could potentially flip. Alabama visited him today but State and Duke are the schools to watch if he does flip.

Mike Gee was a friend of mine during school – have lost touch through the years except I know he is still in the Burlington area. I hope Harrison is his son because the Gee’s are good people (and Mike was a tough OL)

If DD can have at least one break-out season, ala Louisville or GA Tech, I believe we can reach a tipping point where the majority of top talent stick around. If Amato wasn’t such an awful coach and had better inroads in NC (as opposed to sloppy seconds in Florida) he could have got us there.

The talent in NC is deep and only trails, FL, GA, Texas and CA…all of which have a higher population. Keep in mind athletic talent is normally distributed trait – at least among certain demographics. We have the proper demographics to be a perennial top 25 team if we just keep the damn guys home.

Yes Bill, not sure about the granddaddy but when you mentioned Gee playing with Cowdog I knew it either had to be the granddad or Cowdog is not as old as I thought (no offense CD). I was there 85-89 and I think Mike Gee was 87-91 or so. I know I was slightly older. Either way, a long line from Williams named Gee.

^Mike… the first “Gee” played at Williams about the same time as Jim Donnan… 61-62-63-64…
and he would be about Mr. HighStick’s age…
… for some totally unknown reason… I want to think his first name was ‘Bill’….

Mr. Dog and I are about 10 years younger… NCS class of 76…
Mike Nall from Cummings played with Mr. Dog…

I might be getting old, but I am still a catankerous ol SOB, Bill. Got your email about Gee and I am digging back through a couple of old Agromeks when they still had pictures of every student and team pictures. Donnan’s bro in law was the School Board Superintendant when I lived in Florence SC and he was a cient and in Rotary with me. If I can’t find in a old Agromek, I may be able to call him because he was from Burlington too.Actally a guy who lived next to me in Riddick was a wrestler from Burlington. Name does not ring a bell, but could be because I have known several Gee’s. And Yes Cowdog is just a “youngun'”.

There was a Bill Gee from Burlington that played tackle for Elon in the mid 60’s. Maybe he is the one you’re thinking about..

… some of those notes in my “miscellaneous useless sports trivia” files now look like the Dead Sea Scrolls… so sometimes I’m matching up half an answer with half a question…

… if you feeling cantankerous… try a big bowl of salad greens cooked with fatback and little red pepper and cornbread..at your age that should smooth things right out for you…

… and it’s hard for the pups here to know whether you’re bragging or complaining… either way.. you ain’t the only brother in the house that took eight years to m-a-t-r-i-c-u-l-a-t-e …

I get cantankerous with liberals and RINO’s, and “regularity” isn’t a problem, I think I am going to retire again for real after Christmas, play more golf, shoot more Bambies, and start training a couple of grandkids to hit a baseball.

Cool thing about being “away” frim the summer of 65 until the fall of 70 was State grew up from a small school to a large university with women.
I always say I was Class of 72, but I was really in the Class of 72 1/2 graduating in December.

One of my high school teammates probably played with Gee at Elon. He played fullback and punted. Freshman in 64.
