College Football Championships (and some basketball too)

The glorious Conference Championship Saturday gets into full swing today. Tomorrow, the CFB Playoff picture will cease to be mere speculation, and the bowl scenarios will no longer be just projections.

Currently, the Pack’s most likely bowl destination appears to be in Charlotte to face an SEC foe in the Belk Bowl, but that could change between now and lunch time tomorrow.

Oregon already got their playoff ticket punched by punching ‘Zona in the chops last night, 51-13 in the PAC12 Championship. What should be scary to other potential playoff teams is that the Ducks didn’t even play particularly well on offense and still managed to hang 51 on the Wildcats, while their D broke ‘Zona’s spirit.

Northern Illinois performed a similar chop-punching on Bowling Green in the MAC Championship, 51-17.

The Big12 has no championship game, but they do have some games today that matter in the playoff discussion…

(9)KState vs (6)Baylor, 7:45pm, ESPN

and

Iowa State vs (3)TCU, Noon, ABC

The Conference USA Championship matters, at least to people in Huntington, WV…

Louisiana Tech vs Marshall, Noon, ESPN2

The SEC Championship gets going a little later this afternoon…

(1)Alabama vs (16)Missouri, 4pm, CBS

And the ACC and B1G go against one another for ratings later this evening…

(13)Wisconsin vs (5)Ohio State, 8pm, FOX

and

(4)Florida State vs (11)Georgia Tech, 8pm, ABC

And if you’re still craving football even after all of that (and you’d have to be) the Mountain West Championship caps the party off tonight…

Fresno State vs (22)Boise State, 10pm, CBSSN

Even though it might be Conference Championship Saturday in football, there’s also some decent basketball peppered in today as well.

UVa travels to VCU (ESPNU, 2pm)

Gonzaga at ‘Zona matches up 2 top ten undefeated teams out west (ESPN, 5:15pm)

Plus the Pack will hopefully extend a warm welcome to Danny Manning tonight at 7:30 (ESPNU).

Thanks. I kept trying to make an open thread for football and basketball earlier and kept getting denied.

I have no earthly idea why it kept getting blocked. I’ll try to put up a Wake Forest thread, but it’s 50/50 whether it’ll go through or not … awful tough to publish content here.

Since I kinda messed this up and thus there is no link from the forums to the blog (note to self, don’t forget to put a title in before publishing, it screws shit up), I’m pasting the body of the blog entry here as well….

In that case, forget everything I said earlier about me forgetting to put the title in before publishing. It was the system’s fault….yeah. 😉

Here’s hoping FSU gets pounded. I think Winston is a bad person.

NJIT – a team without a conference and a 2-5 record entering the game – goes to #17 Michigan and wins 72-70.

    College basketball, everybody.

Got to believe we are going to the Belk Bowl, they have our pictures on the ticket page.

Virgnia up 8 over VCU in Richmond – about midway through the second half.

Miami was getting worked by Green Bay, but is rallying and trail by 7 with about 5 minutes to play.

Old friend Skip Holtz and La. Tech look like they will fall short in the C-USA title game against old friend Doc Holliday and Marshall.

^^ I think they might just have pictures of teams who have played there in the past (and who also could play there in the near future?). Didn’t State play USF in the Belk Bowl? Also, if you click the Corporate Packages link, there’s an old picture of Carolina on that page. A picture of the glory days when cheating was respectable and everyone was doing it.

^It’s never gonna get old. Ever. 🙂

Looks like Green Bay will hand Miami their first loss, and UVa will stop VCU.

Also, Georgia Tech lost at home earlier to USC-Upstate …

Hope this link works…from the local paper here in Craven County. Jesse Campbell is being honored at the ACC Championship game tonight. I was a senior when Jesse was a freshman, and one could tell that he was destined for good things even at that age. He was also fun to watch on the basketball court. I saw him dunk with a guard hanging on to him around the waist trying to keep him from scoring…Jesse simply elevated himself and the other player!

I like the idea of Art Monk being an ACC legend. And no, wufpup, it will never get old.

Johnny Unitas does not get it.

    Tony Dorsette could…If he could.

Paul Horning is holding on for the call.

    Jim Brown is too busy.

I watched the Ducks last night. They have a distinctive style which reminds me of a flyweight boxer who can’t knock someone out cold but is very quick and strong and just beats the crap out of the opponent all day and gets the lopsided TKO. The potential O/Bama (see what I did there?) matchup would be very interesting.

    Ply…I like that take.

    “Float like a butterfly…”

Oregon wins it all this year, and I have no stats, or data to proof it out.

However, their D passes the eye chart. That is something that has kept them at bay for the last decade while in the hunt.

    Oregon is your natty.

Jackets with a great first drive. Noles looking out of sorts yet again.

Paul Johnson got a 4 year extension by the way.

Ohio State up early as well.

So Bama, Oregon and TCU have punched their tickets. Whose the fourth? We shall see.
