Thin LBs get thinner, Salahuddin out indefinitely with knee injury

Bad news for a team already thin at LB, as likely starter MJ Salahuddin goes down with a knee injury and will be out “for a while” according to head coach Dave Doeren.

Salahuddin will require surgery, but no further details have been made available.

N.C. State will start the season without linebacker M.J. Salahuddin. The Wolfpack might have to play the whole season without the junior from Fayetteville.

Doeren didn’t rule out Salahuddin playing this season but pointed out Salahuddin has yet to use his redshirt season. Doeren said Salahuddin, who had 25 tackles last season, would be out for a while and did not provide further details about the type of injury.

N.C. State already had switched to a 4-2-5 alignment on defense, taking one linebacker off the field. There’s more experience on the outside with seniors Rodman Noel and Brandon Pittman. Doeren said sophomore Ernie Robinson and freshman Airius Moore will back up Fernandez.

I’m not sure if I’ve ever heard of a 4-1-6, but maybe we should look into it.

Tough for MJ. I hate to see any player get hurt.

There were always rumblings of Tenuta and lack of recruiting. I wonder if our amazingly thin depth at LB the last two years isn’t linked.

Well that didn’t take very long, did it? Our bad luck trend with injuries continues.

Sorry I just can’t hop on the doom and gloom wagon. Losing Salahuddin was bad news, but there is more than one LB, and who is to say his replacement can’t step up to the challenge. Looking for good things this season. And maybe an early return for Salahuddin. The verdict is still not out. Go Pack!

Tenuta has/had a reputation as a great coach who loathes recruiting…. He was a natural for our last staff. (Old school lifers who expected certain things from football players.)

I hope we haven’t gone to the opposite end of the spectrum now. It will be interesting to see what we do this year. I don’t like that we have basically pinned our hopes for a conference win on brisset
