North Carolina by the numbers

..not the kind of “North Carolina by the numbers that you might expect”. But, I thought a little non-sports discussion wouldn’t be a bad thing as we are only one week from the football season. If you are Jonesing for more sports talk then you should definitely click here.

Eastern over Lex any day. I live in West but NCSU is in the east. And the red – vinegar based slaw is best too. But I’ll take both over SC mustard or those other strange creations outside of NC.

I find it remarkable that 61,137 males gave birth in 2012.
    Take that, Sam Ervin.

since Wake county just reached 1,000,000 in population,
does that mean (carry the three) ~10% of NC is in Wake?

I don’t think there’s much doubt that NC has the nation’s best pork barbeque.

As for which restaurant or style is best, try Lexington Barbeque (#1) in Lexington and Wilber’s Barbeque in Goldsboro. It doesn’t get any better than these two.

Stamey’s in Greensboro, Parker’s or Bill’s in Wilson, Red Bridges in Shelby, and B’s in Greenville are also worth a stop.

Here in the Apex area, I still miss OT’s hushpuppies.

    if you’re over fifty… anything you don’t like about North Carolina’s numbers…

you can probably trace back to our own… the Honorable JBH, Jr.

aka in “some” places Down East as “TulipLips”.

I’m kind of surprised that there are more Duke fans (18%) than State fans (15%). I graduated high school in 1974 and I can’t remember more than 2 kids who called Duke their favorite team. It must be all the newcomers over the last 30 years who have jumped on the Duke bandwagon.

Not to mention our bandwagon breaking an axle about 25 yrs ago.

    ya’ll ain’t going to believe this…

I cooked some chopped Q for about 40 people (’bout 25lbs) two Saturdays past…

One OldBeltBaccaFarrmer (my uncle who’s been cooking Q for about 70 years )…
‘complained’ that it was ‘a little smoky’…

Of course… he didn’t say ‘nuttin ’bout my sauce…
    cause the sauce ain’t Eastern or Lexington… it’s a F1 hybrid (both)….

And yes.. he’s a State Grad(’56) who can and will tell ‘ya what’s wrong with anything…

    Ha!

Best chopped Q between Jacksonville, Calabash and Wallace is in my backyard…
just ask anybody (other than my Uncle)…

    … here’s some North Carolina numbers….
    for those who need ’em….

    MIX…
1 Gallon of White House Apple Cider Vinegar
    2 tablespoons salt
    2 tablespoons black pepper
    2 tablespoons red pepper flakes
    2 tablespoons bill.onthebeach’s secret ingredient

heat sauce gently for 15 minutes or so…
    let sauce cool….

MIX about 2.0 cups sauce thoroughly with 10-15lbs of FINELY chopped && VERY WARM roasted on REAL WOOD CHARCOAL pork shoulders…
you must have some FAT and some CRISPY SKIN in ‘da meat…

let stand and KEEP WARM for no less than One Hour…

=== the best North Carolina BBQ you ever had.

*NOT RESPONSIBLE for results when ya’ll can’t get this right….
