The ACC will move its conference tournament title game to Saturday night after being a Sunday final on the day of the NCAA tournament selections since 1982.
The conference announced the scheduling change Tuesday from its spring meetings in Amelia Island, Florida.
The ACC tournament will be in Greensboro, N.C., in 2015, Washington D.C. in 2016 and the Barclays Center in Brooklyn in 2017 and 2018. The 2019 ACC tournament will be held in Charlotte before it goes back to Greensboro in 2020.
The ACC tournament will run a Tuesday-Saturday format, meaning the league’s regular season will end on the previous Saturday instead of Sunday. There will be three first-round games on Tuesday of Championship week, four second-round games on Wednesday, four quarterfinal games on Thursday before the semifinals Friday and the Saturday championship game.
The Sunday final not only can cause headaches for the selection committee but also be a problem for schools that have to travel quickly for the NCAA tournament on Tuesday for a Thursday-Saturday regional.
