ACC/B1G Challenge – 2013 Edition

The Pack doesn’t get its shot at the Wildcats of Northwestern until tomorrow (PNC Arena, 7:30pm, ESPNU), but there are still six games tonight (at least two of which I have at least lukewarm interest in), and then six more tomorrow night.

The ACC holds an all time series lead vs The B1G by a 10-3-1 record.  HOWEVER, the ACC has not won this thing in 4 years (0-3-1 last four years, last year ended in a 6-6 tie).

NCSU is only 5-8 all time in the challenge, but are 4-2 at home.  A late run fell short for the Pack last year vs Michigan in Ann Arbor.

Northwestern at NC State: I’m not sure NC State fans are preconditioned to get excited about Northwestern. But don’t look at it that way, guys. That’s a Blue Devil (ex-Duke assistant and player Chris Collins) coaching the Wildcats! You fired up now?

Prediction: NC State 69, Northwestern 65

First to 50 Wins?

Wisconsin and Virginia meet Wednesday night (7 p.m. ET) in what may be the most evenly matched game of the Challenge. Fans of track meets should look elsewhere, however, as both the Badgers and Cavaliers rank in the bottom quarter of D-I in possessions per game. When you consider the basketball ethos of the two men on the benches, the snail’s pace should come as no surprise. Both Tony Bennett and Bo Ryan value precise offensive execution and solid, stay-in-front-of-your-man defense above all else. Oh, and that match-up at the three between Virginia’s Joe Harris and Wisconsin’s Sam Dekker? What a dandy.

ACC teams in the ‘left out’ games…..

Tuesday: VT hosts Winthrop (7pm) and Clemson welcomes SC State to town (7pm)

Wednesday: Wake hosts Tulane (7pm)

So, with all due respect to VT, Clemson and Wake, just swapping those three out for ‘Cuse, Pitt and ND should up the ACC’s chances to get back in the win column.

Hopefully the Pack learned a bit this past Saturday (mostly about themselves), and are on their way toward being the team we hope they can become.

    Lines on tonight’s games…

    Maryland @ tOSU (-10.5)
    Wiscy @ UVa (-4)
    Northwestern @ NCSU (-9.5)
    Carolina @ Sparty (-9.5)
    BC @ Purdue (-4.5)
    Miami @ Nebraska (-4.5)

FWIW, like last night, all home teams are favored tonight (Last night, all home teams won…at least outright if not necessarily vs the spread).

  2. Wufpacker 12/04/2013 at 7:19 PM #

Wiscy/UVa NOT completely unwatchable thus far.
    Color me surprised.

  3. Wufpacker 12/04/2013 at 7:26 PM #

    Maybe I spoke too soon.

  4. bill.onthebeach 12/04/2013 at 9:34 PM #

.. not much D being playing up in East Lansing so far…
    run and gun.

  5. wufpup76 12/04/2013 at 9:35 PM #

    I am disappoint early

Make your statement now, Sparty … don’t wait!

  6. Wufpacker 12/04/2013 at 9:43 PM #

As long as they’re within 10 at the half.

  7. wufpup76 12/04/2013 at 9:43 PM #

For anyone watching the Michigan St. game, that replay of the MSU player crashing to the floor was really painful to watch … ouch.

Glad he got up and walked off.

  8. wufpup76 12/04/2013 at 9:45 PM #

Yeah, not too worried Wuf … but the Holes do have some talent. I’d rather they have 0 confidence 🙂

  9. bill.onthebeach 12/04/2013 at 9:47 PM #

There’s the first big run by Sparty … Pup…

15-6 in the last several minutes.

  10. wufpup76 12/04/2013 at 9:49 PM #

^Followed by epic Izzo tantrum going into the timeout hahaha

  11. vtpackfan 12/04/2013 at 9:50 PM #

Tom Izzo is the man. Even if the NCAA bends over for PJ they still aren’t anything special. You can’t fix this soft front court.

  12. bill.onthebeach 12/04/2013 at 9:51 PM #

If Uncle Roy really wanted PJ back… don’t you think that he’d be back by now.

With the N-rangoo fiasco… I’m betting you won’t see PJ in light blue again.

    Heels crumbling.
    So pretty.

  14. vtpackfan 12/04/2013 at 9:56 PM #

Sparty is a party. Man I would love to see us play a regular season game at home ranked #1 just once. That scene would rage.

  15. bill.onthebeach 12/04/2013 at 10:06 PM #

    ^Yep… Been there … done that….

And it was cold as hell trying to sleep standing in front of Reynolds to get the tickets too… once a week for two months.

Of course all that was well before anyone ever heard of global warming.

  16. Wufpacker 12/04/2013 at 10:19 PM #

    Ditto bill.
Freezing rain one night, while trying to sleep on a folding lawn chair in front of the ‘Old Barn’.

    Brrrrrr

  17. Wufpacker 12/04/2013 at 10:29 PM #

    Sparty starting to worry me.

  18. bill.onthebeach 12/04/2013 at 10:34 PM #

… And NO cold beer… either.

  19. Wufpacker 12/04/2013 at 10:38 PM #

OK, neither BC nor Miami looking like they have a prayer.

Which makes it the Heels with the ‘swing vote’ to determine a tie vs a loss.

I say, we did our job and won. Heels and ACC can go eff themselves.

    Go Sparty.

  20. bill.onthebeach 12/04/2013 at 10:44 PM #

MacAdoo, Meeks, Johnson all in at one time… What’s Uncle Roy thinking ???

three’s are going to kill Sparty…

  21. wufpup76 12/04/2013 at 10:46 PM #

Not an impressive / smart performance from Michigan State. Played right into the Holes’ hands … Holes’ interior length has clearly disrupted Michigan State.

  22. bill.onthebeach 12/04/2013 at 10:48 PM #

sparty can’t figure who they’re supposed to be guarding the last couple times down the floor…

and they need to quit hitting the floor so hard, too.

Damn holes might win this one….
but after the last week over there they might need something to cheer about….

  23. wufpup76 12/04/2013 at 10:55 PM #

Well Dan Shulman, Michigan St. is no Belmont. Hence, they shouldn’t shoot jumpshots every single time down the floor.

Amazing. Jumper after jumper … miss after miss.

  24. bill.onthebeach 12/04/2013 at 10:56 PM #

    ^when they’re not laying on the floor….

  25. tractor57 12/04/2013 at 11:15 PM #

Being that I did the old man thing and dozed through the first half our our game I’m enjoying the replay.
