As much as I hate ’em, they earned it (more or less).

    Can’t even be slightly miffed.

  2. wufpup76 11/24/2013 at 8:20 AM #

    ^Nope.

  3. TheCOWDOG 11/24/2013 at 8:51 AM #

    Photoshopped twist of the shiv.

  4. Wulfpack 11/24/2013 at 9:00 AM #

Which is why, to echo BJD, playing this series is so perplexing. Win this game and hang a banner (or billboard), and we look even dumber. It is really a no win scenario for us.

  5. theTHRILL 11/24/2013 at 9:32 AM #

That exact same pic has been reported to be located in about a dozen locations across the state. I’m pretty sure it’s photoshopped.

  6. Adventuroo 11/24/2013 at 9:51 AM #

Two comments….I got this via email from several folks. It appears to be “real”…if it is photoshopped, then OH WELL…..

First…the N&O pointed out this morning that it was HISTORIC that ECU beat both the Consolidated Rivals this year. I guess the individual(s) that arranged for the billboard were aware that the ECU Midfield logo supposedly looks like the DeanDome logo….don’t know….but it might have been political suicide to put up BOTH the UNC and NCSU Scores as the members of the Consolidated UNC System is about 50% UNC grads….NEVER, EVER bite the hand that feeds you……so that is why the “Historic” nature of the wins was left out…

    Second…..

We can’t say too much. We had high expectations for the season. But injuries DO take their toll. I do not think that there is the cohesiveness in the coaching staff yet….like having to call a timeout after a timeout….

BUT, I think that DD and company will make adjustments and that a better supply of talent, hopefully HEALTHY will help.

It is one thing to walk a tightrope that is 6″ off the ground on a calm day…..but when you are blindfolded and the rope is 600 ft up and the wind is a quartering wind…..constantly changing directions, then all bet are off.

DD’s comments and the fact that he DOES get it make me feel a little better this morning. I NEVER felt the need to boo our defense yesterday…..I was there….I did NOT sell (give/barter/bet…) my ticket.

The ECU fans were all over the stadium and the tailgaters were everywhere…..really heavy into the PRIME parking spots. So a LOT of high priority WPC fans voted yesterday.

NOW, maybe that was their “warning” shot? Maybe Bobby Purcell’s email, vmail and text servers, as well as Debbie Yow’s crashed after the game. Don’t know.

Much has been written about all the $$$’s that went into the AD budget and the WPC…..but LITTLE has been written about the ineptness of our ex AD, Mr. Fowler.

He actually made Dick Baddour look like a GENIUS. Think about it….Dickie is a 10 and Lee was a 3.

SO, WHO ran the UNC Athletics, the Ram’s club. They did the selection of the coaches and the hiring and the coaches are paid by “external” sources (as in their radio/TV and “shoe” contracts.

And WHERE did that get them? They hired coaches who brought in SEC recruits and those recruits matched up WELL with the dirty little secret AFAM department that Dean Smith and John Swofford had set up. When folks talk Balderdash about “RIPPING OFF”, as in a Logo, remember…..K>A>N>S>A>S had the ORIGINAL AFAM department. Dean brought it in. Johnny got it “approved” Roy knew how much of an asset it was…..

Finally the whole thing blew up. Now, the explosion was not like a Nuke….but it has sullied the reputation of the “Flagship” and it will not go away.

SO, we are suffering from Coach Fowler’s hires. We are also still suffering from the radical emasculating surgery of Dr. Monteith and his Witch Hunting Tour (remember Todd Turner????).

Dr. Woodson has brought back some balance. He has brought in someone to run the AD that “gets it” and is a true STATE fan.

Yes, she is a bit brash…..and if I were an opposing attorney and she were my “esteemed opposing attorney”, I would have some second thoughts about taking this case.

She has brought financial security BACK to the AD. Learfield sports NOW handles our “PRESS”. We have an AD that gets the “goodies” from merchandise.

She has made some changes….it will be a while before they all take effect. Will she be able to transform us with only one “coaching change” (in a major sport)….don’t know…..look how LONG it took us to end up here.

Write down all the ACC Titles that we have won since 1983 compared to a similar 30 year period PRIOR.

I am NOT HAPPY with the BB or FB season…..but I also think that it could be worse……we could still have TOB at the helm and I respected him as a person, but he was not, for whatever reason, a good fit here.

So much purple there yesterday seemed like an away game. And they were vocal, yelling some sort of cult chant. Couldn’t understand what they were saying, but it was some sort of cheer. Very uncomfortable and discouraging to be at our house, paying serious money, to be surrounded by uninvited, obnoxious “guests” who smelled like fish even before they got there. Maybe winning would make it tolerable. Fact is, winning might keep the tickets with the original buyers.

  8. BassPacker 11/24/2013 at 10:13 AM #

We sat thru the entire game. The purple and gold was out in mass numbers as expected. Felt more like a ECU home game than State as the Purple/Gold was loud. We had a group of Pirates sitting behind us that sang some ECU song with every score. Did it piss me off, yes, but more at how the program had gotten to this point. Like the guy in front of us said when another Pack fan told them to shut up, face it, they have earned being vocal.

It also made me again think hard on our decision to be there, be paying those LTR fees and WPC dues. I was offered $100 each for our tics plus same for PP. I was tempted as hard to sit there what seems like game after game and season after season with loses in more ways than on the field.

  9. BJD95 11/24/2013 at 11:44 AM #

The fans – in the tens of thousands – voted with their feet and wallets. Now, do you think it’s more likely that one can change that many minds about the desirability of this series? Or that the NC State administration finally makes a stand and quits playing a series that involves NOTHING but downside for the NC State football program?

As only the second option is even feasible (wishcast all you want re option one, it ain’t happening in the real world), I hope and pray that Coach Doeren is pushing hard for it.

  10. gumby 11/24/2013 at 12:02 PM #

I have no problem playing ECU and I don’t think it brings only downside – unless this year’s team is the future expectation of what we will bring to the table.

  11. WolftownVA81 11/24/2013 at 1:05 PM #

Problem is, if we stopped the series now, they’ll say it’s cause we’re affraid of losing (again). Perhaps after we’ve pounded them a couple of times in a row we can stop this nonsense.

  12. Wulfpack 11/24/2013 at 1:10 PM #

It is a stupid game. No win situation.

  13. packman12 11/24/2013 at 1:25 PM #

The billboard, real or not, points out how much this game means to them. To them it’s the super bowl-to us it’s another game on the schedule. This will never change. Why are we still playing them? Like Mike O’Cain once said, nobody cares about this game outside the state of NC.

  14. TheCOWDOG 11/24/2013 at 1:38 PM #

Well…Nobody cares about the UConns, CMUs and on and on.

I always liked playing against them. I get Beej’s point, but I’d rather keep them than ever see another South Alabama.

  15. BJD95 11/24/2013 at 1:42 PM #

Offers NC State no recruiting exposure/advantage, but does for EZU.

The only game we can schedule to ensure that at least a quarter of the stadium is cheering for the opposing team.

No win can over a mid-major program can ever give you “bragging rights” – but certainly can offer you lots of shame and mockery when you lose.

You will have a much better chance to lose than against any comparable opponent, given that it is ALWAYS their Super Bowl (most Pie-rats are Hole fans come basketball season).

This is never an attractive matchup for national TV exposure.

We have a season ticket base, don’t need this game at all for revenue. Especially after you factor in the extra security costs.

While I haven’t personally seen the sign … I nonetheless believe it to be authentic.

The billboard that the photographer identified as on US #1 in Wake Forest is … well … sort of true. Technically, its on the outskirts of Wake Forest. It is just beyond the Wake County line. Like … quite literally right over the line into Franklin County.

It’s right across from the Centurylink Regional Headquarters building. And … it is digital. If you look to the right of the sign, there is an antenna attached. This is legitimate. And … can explain how quickly they could put something like that up. The digital billboard changes every 10-15 seconds or so.

Wouldn’t be hard to put that up. The question is: Was it ECU who paid for the sign … or a booster? I guess it really doesn’t matter.

At least brighter heads prevailed and removed the Tuffy/State logo from the field. I’m sure Debbie Yow could envision “little brother” from mocking that in dramatic fashion.

Let’s just abandon the “This is our state” campaign. You have to back it up. Otherwise, its empty rhetoric which is embarrassing to us all in Wolfpack Nation.

Playing a third of your schedule against in state colleges and not being from California, Florida or Texas is wrong.

I would love, LOVE, to put ECU on the schedule every year if we were to move to the SEC/Big10 or 12. Whatever Maryland ends up having to shell out is still a bargain.

  18. Adventuroo 11/24/2013 at 2:05 PM #

OK, I got TIRED of the UNC crowd sending me the photo. YES, it is on SBNation…and there are other photos of it, from a different perspective, so I assume that it is REAL.

I laughed when I got it and did not collect supplies to blow it to wherever…

I also sort of wonder about the person that purchased it. if I were going to declare my school’s FB Supremacy in the state, then my text or score box would have read….

    ECU 55 UNC 31

    ECU 42 NCSU 28

Wonder why they only chose the State game…..?

We will never know….Coach D certainly has enough, as if he needed any more than the game films, “stuff” for motivational purposes next year.

The folks, of questionable intelligence and logic, at on our Monkee Boards have already started a campaign to buy put DD and replace him. The usual suspects (Cowher, Saban, etc.) are on their Christmas list and they intend to ask Santa when their guardians (handlers?) take them to see Santa in the Mall.

Funny, no one is mentioning Sonny Dykes, late of LA Tech fame…..who was one of the “LEADING” WE GOTTA HAVE coaches last year.

I only have one word to describe the 2013 NC state football season: MULLIGAN

  20. MrPlywood 11/24/2013 at 3:39 PM #

I do design work for a billboard company, and we have a few digital signs. The files are uploaded remotely and everything is updated via the web, so this design could well have been more than one location at the exact same time. I haven’t seen any more pics, but if they are all on Fairway boards then maybe the owner went to ECU? Or some alums pitched in for a well-timed jab at State.

  21. Wufpacker 11/24/2013 at 3:48 PM #

“Wonder why they only chose the State game…..?”

Because we’re the only ones who have claimed the state to be ours under false (or at least seriously underwhelming) pretenses.

  22. bill-1956 11/24/2013 at 3:50 PM #

I agree with Adventuroo’s first post. It will take time – but we’ll get there.

And, like Adventuroo, we did not barter, sell or trade our tickets either – we were there Saturday (it DID get fun to watch at the very end).

My little group of 4 actually considered going on StubHub to get tickets for next week’s Dook @ UNC-CHeats game.

But then we remembered that our players will show up for the Maryland game – and so will we.

Hopefully we can end the season on a positive note and show Maryland the ACC exit door in a manner they so well deserve.

  23. mak4dpak 11/24/2013 at 4:32 PM #

This is my country, but it also belongs to others who live here. So win or lose it still is our State, just not into the map logo, which was absent from the game yesterday. And again for a fact we are they youngest team in the ACC, so we will be climbing. As for yesterday, if we had played the whole game like the last 5 minutes, EZU, wouldn’t be talking smack, and really nothing to talk smack about anyway, beat a team that is now 3-8. Really? Wooo hoooo! And no problem playing them, we owe them anyway. Next one on us. No backing down! I hope Marshall spanks them next week. Not to mention the regular 30ish NC State fan that shows up yesterday, in my seating area and tries to insight a fight with an older gentlemen, with some loud foul language, around kids in the area. But he is now banned for a year from games. Good enough for him! Don’t want him cheering for my Pack! As for UNC fans, our game against ECU was much more of game than the whoopin they took in Kenan Stadium at the hands of this same ECU team.

  24. TeufelWolf 11/24/2013 at 5:32 PM #

I don’t mind playing ECU. I’m not sure why we should be giving the choice any thought really. If we have a good FB team, it shouldn’t matter.

  25. tjfoose1 11/24/2013 at 5:40 PM #

Stupid marketing slogan. We deserve it. I suggest we replace our marketing dept with recent graduates of Dillard Drive Elementary School. It’d be a 2’fer. Better results at less cost.

Maybe next year we can put a big tar heel at midfield, you know, since the tar heel state is our state and all.
