PJ Hairston Suspended Indefinitely After New Driving Charges

UPDATE: WRAL is reporting that PJ Hairston has been suspended “indefinitely” by Roy Williams:

Steve Kirschner, a spokesman for the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill’s Athletics Department, issued a statement late Sunday saying men’s basketball coach Roy Williams has suspended Hairston, who averaged 14.6 points in 34 games last season, from the team indefinitely.

Keep in mind that “suspended indefinitely” does not mean “kicked off the team permanently.”

Hairston will probably need to resolve his charges, perform some community service or whatever and then earn his way back into the good graces of his coaching staff, but he is still a student at UNC and still going to be eligible to rejoin the team. Don’t be surprised when that happens around the end of Fall Semester.

UNC’s PJ Hairston has been in the news a lot lately for items that aren’t related to his ability to put the basketball in the basket. While unfortunate for him, it does help the slow news month of July.

Today, yes today, at 4:30 PM PJ Hairston was pulled over in Rowan County for driving 93 mph in a 65 mph zone. He was also charged with careless and reckless driving. He was driving a 2008 Acura TL. No word yet on whose Acura it was.

His basketball coach, Roy Williams has now suspended Hairston indefinitely. Ahhh, those summer suspensions.

Never a dull day over in Orange County.

“Mr. Hairston, you are charged with driving while stupid. How do you plead?”
“How do I plead for a Prayer of Judgment Continued, your Honor?”

    Amazing..
I am thrilled it was a speeding ticket that caused ole roy to act…. nevermind, gun/pot/rental cares, extra benefits.
And I thought he was not in school right now and not practicing so there was nothing that could be done.

They are so full of it.

PJ told the officer that he was late for class, that’s why he was speeding. He’ll get off since he was just trying to further his education.

They don’t have enough class at unx to kick his dumbass to the curve. He’ll sit out vs the Little Sisters of the Poor beginning of the season and then play on.

When you’re running 90+ on a busy interstate highway and are pulled by Jeff Gordon, maybe it’s time you considered a career change. Where is Brad Daugherty?

    “How is this affecting recruiting?”

It’s probably doing wonders for recruiting. Especially if they want more like PJ. Come to Carolina. If you’re a star, we’ll fix things for you when you screw up. No worries.

It’s only a matter of time until Roy compares PJ’s driving issues with the Haitian earthquake.

According to PJ’s lawyer, it was a State fan that called the SHP tip line to report his speeding. They then dispatched an officer to pull him over.

Cowdog…I’ll take the over…once the Acura turns out to be a loaner, he’ll be done for fear of a violation.

    Christmas in July..love it.

LOL at redcanine (and many others).

No doubt that Ol’ DB will find a way to come off like a complete jackass as this progresses. He can’t help it.

Dereck Whittenburg is set to be named as an assistant coach for BB. I’d post this on the forums but it seems like no one goes there anymore.
