PJ Hairston Suspended Indefinitely After New Driving Charges

UPDATE: WRAL is reporting that PJ Hairston has been suspended “indefinitely” by Roy Williams:

Steve Kirschner, a spokesman for the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill’s Athletics Department, issued a statement late Sunday saying men’s basketball coach Roy Williams has suspended Hairston, who averaged 14.6 points in 34 games last season, from the team indefinitely.

Keep in mind that “suspended indefinitely” does not mean “kicked off the team permanently.”

Hairston will probably need to resolve his charges, perform some community service or whatever and then earn his way back into the good graces of his coaching staff, but he is still a student at UNC and still going to be eligible to rejoin the team. Don’t be surprised when that happens around the end of Fall Semester.

UNC’s PJ Hairston has been in the news a lot lately for items that aren’t related to his ability to put the basketball in the basket. While unfortunate for him, it does help the slow news month of July.

Today, yes today, at 4:30 PM PJ Hairston was pulled over in Rowan County for driving 93 mph in a 65 mph zone. He was also charged with careless and reckless driving. He was driving a 2008 Acura TL. No word yet on whose Acura it was.

His basketball coach, Roy Williams has now suspended Hairston indefinitely. Ahhh, those summer suspensions.

Never a dull day over in Orange County.

That is what happens when a ten pound bag of weed and a bag of guns falls on the gas pedal. He probably borrowed the car from a Board of Trustees member of the UNC system.

Suspended until Kentucky game! What a dumbass. Cannot wait to see who owns this car.

  3. Paramarine 07/28/2013 at 11:50 PM #

What’s up with that car? He’s slumming.

    “Flagshipu” wrote and I quote:

“I think he definitely misses the Blue/White game, and probably Richmond. Roy will teach him a valuable lesson.”

At least he had his license this time and left the pot and guns at home. Curious who the car was registered to. Probably a third cousin of Fat’s wife and it was rented at Hertz. He probably figured no one could trace that. Stupidity and arrogance are a lethal combination.

^ Or maybe the weed and the heat just weren’t in plain view this time.

    An improvement either way.

  6. redcanine 07/29/2013 at 12:38 AM #

Maybe he should have smoked some of that pot. I have never known someone to speed-on-weed. Was he drunk?

  7. OldWuf 07/29/2013 at 12:57 AM #

OK, I’m sure PJ will learn his lesson now. Bwaaahahaha. See ya about December 14th. What a moron. Ol’Roy looks like a castrated sheep the way PJ is pissing on him.

If Party Juice PJ steps foot into the PNC next year, he is going to wish he was never born. Should we do one oversized PJ mugshot or multiple mugshots for the whole student section?

hmmm… three strikes and you’re out of here….right Mr. Dog ?

My $1 says… Uncle Roy’s mind was already made up before PJ got anywhere near Rowan County….

We won’t see PJ bouncing the roundball in baby blue again unless he’s playing for the Denver Nuggets….

PJ is just making this way too easy for Uncle Roy to do the right thing….

“PJ is just making this way too easy for Uncle Roy to do the right thing….”

Beat me to it BOTB. I wanted to see Roy squirm and justify his non-punishment. I could not care less about the NCAA now – uNX is doing a fine job of imploding all by themselves.

Come on everyone, lighten up! Give the kid a second chance. Sorry, third chance. I meant 4th chance.

I don’t think Roy suspended him at all. I’m speculating that the school had plans on the table for a fall semester move, merely to avoid using a potentially ineligible player.

Nah…the suspension has Bubba and other powers written all over it…PR move.

2008 Acura….can you rent a car that old? Anyway, How stupid does one have to be to basically ask to get pulled? Is he really that dumb or is it that he believes he’s untouchable? Ok, asked and answered: For sure he’s a dumbass. But he’s also punking ole Roy and making him look like his man-bitch. Indefinite Suspension means PJ doesn’t have to practice or be bothered with a few meaningless games. Grow a pair Roy.

  14. Greywolf 07/29/2013 at 7:10 AM #

Hmm, from Hertz to Rent-a-Wreck. Going downhill fast.

  15. BJD95 07/29/2013 at 7:11 AM #

Well…he seems pretty stupid, and he’s never had any consequences for his prior rock stupid actions. Perfectly expected, if you ask me.

This is a message to the cheating faithful that PJ will play against Kentucky and the rest of the season. He was going south so one would assume he was going to pick up a new supply to bring back north to orange county.

Probably right about this being a gift from God in that Ole’ Roy can do his Pontius Pilot bit and wash his hands of all the PJ ugliness in the Silver Chalice that a booster bought for just such purposes.

One unconfirmed, but yet pesky comment is that something of even more magnitude on the embarrassment scale will surface within a few risings of the sun. Totally without merit….but wonder if anyone had heard of any little rumblings…??

I think it will be a mass protest by the relatives of the Sweet Caroline’s (The 80’s UNC Female Groupies who served at the, or maybe FOR, the pleasure of the FB and BB players). These folks have taken a clue from the Rev BB and will wear light blue and black and they are seeking reparation from the State of NC since the legislature passed a bill authorizing payments for forced sterilization. THEY WANT THEIR $HARE….for their $IN$.

  18. Pack78 07/29/2013 at 8:02 AM #

Remember PJ’s beer-shotgunning (always a gun with this guy?) at the beach shortly after his Durham ‘incident’…either this kid is terminally stupid OR he was already on double-secret probation and just didn’t give a crap anymore…

  19. Rochester 07/29/2013 at 8:02 AM #

Per the N&O, PJ is due in court Friday for his May 13 speeding infraction. If the judge does the right thing and looks out for the safety of the general population, PJ may find himself walking out of court with a suspended license. Which will make his next 30-mph-over-the-limit ticket an even bigger deal.

As to Ole’ Roy, I remember wondering how dumb he was not to want PJ in the starting lineup for the first half of last season. He finally realized it was the only way they could win. Once PJ moved into the top 5 they took off. Seems Roy must have already been irked at PJ to take so long to make an obvious move like that. Now he’s stuck. He must know how badly his squad needs this future convict, but at the same time, he apparently isn’t a favorite in the coach’s office. What a conundrum. And what entertainment. Keep it coming, Peej.

  20. LRM 07/29/2013 at 8:03 AM #

The best part of that story is that Jeff Gordon pulled him. If PJ had known that, he could’ve easily outrun him and gotten away.

    PJ=Prayer for Judgement

  22. NCSU88 07/29/2013 at 8:15 AM #

PJ should be charged with criminal stupidity.

  23. Adventuroo 07/29/2013 at 8:16 AM #

    LRM,
I don’t know if you comment was serious or in jest…

1st. Sgt. Jeff Gordon is the PI for the NCSHP. I chuckle all the time when he is interviewed. It struck odd that the press would call the NCSHP to get info.

I’ll bet that PJ or some other light blue person tweeted this and it got picked up and went directly to front page.

Think about the ribbing he takes…..

As Toby Keith said….”I ain’t as good as I once was….but I’m as good ONCE as I ever was…” Jeff can still hold his own….and he is now a senior citizen in the NASCAR driver age scale…Bobby Labonte and Mark Martin are octagenerians there…..

  24. bill.onthebeach 07/29/2013 at 8:26 AM #

“the suspension has Bubba and other powers written all over it…”

Mr. Dog…. your antennas may be dead on the money…

But that didn’t happen without Uncle Roy’s ‘tacit’ approval or acquiescence…

As Rochester alluded…. PJ wasn’t starting until mid-season for a reason and it wasn’t skills…

…So the PJ chapter of this epic tale closes rather abruptly….. but this “story” ain’t over yet!

  25. tuckerdorm1983 07/29/2013 at 8:54 AM #

Indefinitely is not the same as permanently.

    Indefinitely is so indefinite.

It could be anywhere from a few days from now when PJ does community service and apologizes publicly and promises to fly right for the rest of the season. Point is you guys are giddy that he is off the team. He is not, just suspended.

Check your enthusiasm. I will believe it when I see or (don’t see it being PJ is not playing come March). I still don’t think Folt,Bubba and Roy have the balls to throw him permanently off the team. Those three are at a point where they must put up or shut up. I think they will try to weasel out of it some way and make it so he can play. My God he is the star player. Look he was only going 93 in a 65. All sarcasm aside that is not that bad. 120 would be bad. People go around me when I doing 80 like I am standing still. The more things change the more things stay the same.
