Opening Day for Pack Baseball is here!

PackBaseballNight

The much anticipated Wolfpack Baseball 2013 campaign gets underway today at Doak Field at 3pm when the Pack opens up a three game set vs the Mountaineers of Appalachian State.  For those who haven’t been following along, the Wolfpack is ranked #8 to begin the season and has been tabbed by some publications as the team to beat for the ACC crown this year.  The word “Omaha” has been tossed around a good bit as well.

To get up to speed, be sure to check out Dr. BadgerPack’s awesome Wolfpack Baseball Preview: 2013 Edition.

Having lost a lot of veteran pitching depth that they’ll need to find a way to replace, the Mountaineers have been picked in the middle of the pack in the Southern Conference preseason prognostications for 2013.  This was also true last year however, when they ended up winning 41 games and placing as 2012 league co-champions.

Any word when Rodon will take the mound?

To be honest, due to some other things going on in real life I kinda half-assed this preview for App, so I honestly don’t know re: Rodon or the rest of the projected rotation order, but I’d presume he’ll go today.

My off the top of my head guess would be Rodon today, Jernigan tomorrow and Tzamtzis or Ogburn Sunday. But honestly not certain.

Rodon is listed as today’s starter on gopack.com. Jernigan and Ogburn listed for Saturday and Sunday. I am hoping to get out there today. Anyone have any expectations on attendance numbers for these early games?

Does anyone know if the team signs autographs/takes pictures at anytime during the season? My little nephew would love to meet some of the players and take in a game…

Down 4-0. Haven’t heard the Pack starter, but if its Rodon that’s pretty disappointing. 9 up 9 down for Pack.

    Spring Training I guess?

Rodon gave up a three run homer in first, but has struck out six thru 3.

Make that three homers- a three run shot and two solo. 5-0 App.

My biggest fear is that the baseball team ends up like the football and basketball teams…..a lot of talk and little to no substance.

GrayWolf, there are about 50 more games on the schedule. Let’s see how the team stands after the first two weeks.

The absence of Diaz, Ciencin, Matthews and Canela is going to be quite noticeable early on.

The Austin, Senay, and whomever isn’t going to come anywhere near a top ten College Baseball meat of the order. We will find out for sure about the Skippers noodle in how he uses, or doesn’t use, Rodon at DH.

“[State is] tabbed by some publications as the team to beat for the ACC crown this year.”

Hmm. Where have I heard that^ before?

    Well dang. Who broke Carlos?

Actually I’m kidding, Carlos will be fine. But yeah, agree with vtpackfan…we gotta find some offense somewhere.

It’s early guys, and as DBP said in his preview, it’s baseball. We’re gonna lose our share. That being said, this did kinda bum me out when I got home, LOL.

Waiting on a Cowdog expert review…Jeez, as a former player…it’s too damn early to be messin’ with my pitcher’s arms in this frigid weather…

Oops, I almost turned the AC in the house on today…But tomorrow, “white stuff'” may be coming!

Can remember swimming in the ocean(like a fool) about this time of the year, and then going home to start baseball practice on Monday…I don’t think I’d thawed out yet!

I’m actually not concerned with Rodon or the pitching as a whole. All I’ve ever seen is guys come in and out the same hitters they started as ( with exception to Chris Diaz). Ciencin, Gianis, Riggins, Canela, Senay, Berrquist, Maynard, Paulk… the list is long.

What Turner, Fincher, Austin, Ratlidge all brought to the table out of HS, or what any JC guy like Williams and Matthews or whomever…

What Avent brings in our hitting coach (Chris Hart?) will keep the package like it was just out of the box.

Not too worried, it is just one game and I think Carlos will be just fine.

What I do have a problem with is Avent putting Carlos in to pinch hit. He is one of the best pitchers in the entire country and does not need to take a chance of getting hurt at the plate. I know he was a very good hitter in HS but he does not need to be hitting for us. Just imagine one bad pitch hitting him in an elbow for example and not being able to pitch…….. I am sure Carlos is pushing to hit but Avent needs to just say no in my opininon.
