CJ Leslie sick, but expected to play (updated 4pm)

We might have some real bad news evolving out of Charlottesville for the Wolfpack’s big game tonight with the Virginia Cavaliers.

As evidenced here, the betting line for tonight’s game jumped from NC State +1.5 up to +4.5 (and more). Such a move is always worrisome.

With that said, rumors have started circulating that CJ Leslie is sick and will be replaced in the starting line-up by TJ Warren.

The following two pictures sent from @PackMensBasketball show State on the court at Paul Tudor Jones Arena. I can’t see a #5 out there, can you?

    NC State shit.

Jevoni Robinson’s time to shine 😉

I think it hurts us more on the boards than anything. Warren has not proven to be a strong rebounder at this point of the season.

The ‘positive’ thing that could come from this is that I hope that Jordan Vandenberg has SUCH a great game that it impossible for Gottfried to keep him on the bench. I personally think Gott continues to make a real mistake by not playing Vandenberg more.

We’ve seen this type of opponent twice recently. Hopefully each player has resolved to play smart and not to lose this road game so as to not validate much of the crap in the media.

If rumors are true, hope Calvin gets well soon.

The devil inside of me says….of all players to miss a game it would be him wouldn’t it???!!!!

Ahhhhh WTF!!! Well I hope he isn’t sick, and if he isn’t sick I hope he wants to play.

Hopefully this will make them play that much harder. Maybe TJ will put up a quiet 40.

I agree with pakfanistan and StateFans. Play Robinson and Vandy for defense. Warren, Wood, Purvis, Howell, and/or Lo still provide alot of offensive firepower.

Hate that CJ might miss this or any game…..BUT….perhaps we will benefit from the adversity. Adversity is our legacy! David (UNC) Glenn is saying he is sick but not out of the game.

I’m not worried. This season is about March, not January. Duke and Miami have both been without key players. #cautiouslyOptimistic

Better sick than injured. We had a long string of years during which injuries cost us games.
Well we weren’t going to win this one anyway. Take the night off CJ.
Maybe with some rest he’ll contribute Saturday. Somebody is going to have to help with Gamble and Johnson.

    Go Pack.

I’m not half as worried about whether or not CJ will play as I am as to whether State will play tonight.

  13. MrPlywood 01/29/2013 at 2:45 PM #

Just play like he’s in foul trouble. This team has balanced scoring, so it’s not like they’ll have to look around for someone to take up the slack.

We’ve been very lucky on the health front so far this year. Have to expect that we’re not going to have our top 6 each and every game.

Need some quality minutes from Vandy – the pace of the game should work to his advantage at least.

  15. PoppaJohn 01/29/2013 at 3:11 PM #

Scrotch – Great point about using JV. Hope they do.

  16. TheAliasTroll 01/29/2013 at 3:21 PM #

He’ll play. He ain’t no punk like Jay Cutler.

  17. TheAliasTroll 01/29/2013 at 3:23 PM #

Oh and regardless of if he plays or not, might be best to temper expecations this game.. UVA has been destroying folks in Charlottesville this year.

“UVA has been destroying folks in Charlottesville this year.”

Yeah. I have a pucker factor about this game.

Leslie being out or limited doesn’t worry me because in spite of how explosive he can be he is also an Achilles heel in that his effort fluctuates too much and he FAR too often goes into Charles Barkley ball-stopper mode. I’m interested to see how ball movement is affected by his absence or limited time. That said, I hope he plays a good bit, and plays hard and well- that’s what the best do. But DAMN I miss Painter, as a person and a player.

  20. ILPackfan 01/29/2013 at 3:53 PM #

Given UVA’s penchant for playing grind-it-out ball, we could use a little more help off the bench tonight.

Roy Williams went out of his way to speak to CJ after the game on Saturday. NOW WE KNOW WHY! ROY DID IT!

    I keed, I keed…

If it’s a norovirus, could be NC State shit…literally.

Watch the whole team get it, two by two for maximum impact.

  23. Pack Mentality 01/29/2013 at 5:42 PM #

I think Warren should start over Leslie or Wood anyway because he is the better player. This would hurt team chemistry I’m sure so that is a good reason not to do it.

  24. choppack1 01/29/2013 at 6:00 PM #

Bjd… Don’t worry, it will only impact 6 guys.
